why isn't the book merchant in my game? well, maybe he is, but he doesn't talk to me. i was in his shop. there is no icon on the map. i'm on ps4.

There's a great merchant by the Novigrad docks who's got everything you need
if everything you need is empty bottles.

there is another poor beggar that sells common crap. dat discount tho!

Did anyone get the Prima guide? How is it?

I know I could look everything up online, but somehow I like those guides for huge games as W3.

Yennefer:
"Grash it firmly, move it around, and the louder it squeals, the closer you are."

Geralt:
"Mhm.."

I think I fucked myself, took on this quest 3lvls higher than me and now I have to fight this knight, my armor broke, sword broke, almost out of potions, consulted youtube and the dungeon still goes on for 1h after that fight.

No repair kits or alternate gear on your person?

For me I think Wild Hunt lends itself better to high difficulties, so much so that I'm regretting I didn't start on Death March instead of Blood & Broken Bones. It has the same kinda busted difficulty curve a lot of open world games have, and The Witcher 2, where the opening of the game is relatively harder compared to what follows due to the combination of learning the mechanics and the later empowerment from new abilities and loot.

Once you get a hang of the game systems, and the perks of using oils, potions, and signs right, you can deal immense damage to groups of enemies above your level.

Yeah I regret dropping the difficulty. I felt like I was getting knowhere on Blood and broken bones so I dropped the difficulty. And now it's a walk in the park. I'm going to replay again anyway so I'll just do a Death March playthrough at some point.

God this game is a time sucker... already 2+ days in and almost didn't play anything from the story yet. Still in Velen and just came to Novigrad, haven't seen Triss yet^^ There is just so much to discover, I'm loving it! And Gwint can also consume quite some time... just think they missed an opportunity here. A small multiplayer aspect would have fit quite well. Would've loved to play Gwint with my deck versus some friends. Any chance this will come? :(

I got the big box edition (game + guide in that old school PC packaging, really nice BTW)

Honestly, ive used it maybe 3 times? It covers all the quests pretty well. Nicely detailed with pics.

But I tried to find info on a specific town and realised that it didnt even have that feature. Pretty disappointing. Also seemed to be missing a glossary for items etc. I may be wrong, but i couldnt find it.

Heaps of pics, backstory stuff and bios etc, but unless you want it for the collect-ability, I would pass.

Dont know what the hardcover guide has, apparently exclusive stuff.

I think im nearing the end game.

Should I finish all the sidequests or finish the story? I seem overleveled compared to the content right now.

So I'm currently sitting at level 7 with a couple upgrades to Quen and Axii maybe a couple other things and I'm curious under what circumstances the alternate Quen serves any purpose. I read somewhere it was great so decided to upgrade to it and it seems useless. I activate the shield bubble deal and I can barely move in it and certainly can't fight so what's the point really? Activate it to take a hit then deactivate it? It also seems to take forever to cast so timing it to absorb a blow is almost impossible for me so far

It gives you back health with every hit unless it breaks in a single blow.

It heals you when you get hit.

Bomb aiming seems to have a very weird arc I haven't quite gotten used to yet, in some cases it seems you want the reticule below what you're aiming at if you're very close to the target.

For the most part I find it unreliable and I just usually target a monster, aim and hope for the best or just put on Quen, get next to it and just let it fly.

I'm gonna have to try this today. Bombs have become a complete afterthought for me due to how often I miss the target.

So presumably the idea would be to cast it quickly while in a battle and let myself get hit a couple times then get rid of it again to continue fighting?

Or you can use it for healing on harder difficulties by activating it and standing in a poison cloud instead of using consumable items.

Sounds disappointing, too bad.

It seems that the game changes it's lighting when in conversations, a guy at CDPR forums made a very interesting comparison.

You can test this transition by entering a conversation and then recording a video with fraps. Then play the video frame by frame (ctrl + arrow right in media player classic) because the change happens really quickly.

Seems like the game could look much better easily, especially inside buildings.

That's clever.

The most tactical use out of Devil's Puff Ball I've gotten is standing in the middle of the poison cloud with Golden Oriole, letting the crowd of human opponents kill themselves while trying to atack me

Triss Spoilers
I let her leave at the end of Now or Never (Obviously a hint in the name of the quest), becuase I basically didn't want to close options with Yennefer before knowing anything about her. Does this mean Triss is gone for ever? Seems a bit abrupt. I don't really like the way they have dealt with yennefer so far. The plot suggests she is important together, but she has had no screen time. There is basically zero reason so far to choose her over Triss, but I am curious.

Nah
Yennefer will invite Triss to Kaer Morhen, no matter if she leaves or not. She can teleport from Kovir instantly.

holy shit

quest spoilers late game

the assassination mission for the king. god damn

^ They are in both big cities. If you don't have a pass you can just sneak in.

I swear Kaer Morhen layout barely changed since W1. The main hall is exactly the same.

I switched from BB to DM at the 60 hours point. I think I should have done it at the 50 hours point.

Where are barbers? I just got to Crow's Perch, and I really wanna chop off the basic original look.

Afraid you'll have to journey to actual civilization if you want a haircut, which mean you need to travel to Oxenfurt or Novigrad, the large cities in the north and northeast of the map.

Haha, "HLAKBR" in the spoiler thread title made me laugh.
I haven't finished the game so I'm not clicking the spoiler thread but I had already forgotten about HLAKBR.

Related to the above screenshots of the global illumination on/off.

Does anyone else get the problem whereby in a city, eg. Novigrad, when it rains/storms and the black clouds cover the sky, it is basically TOO dark to actually properly see anything. It gets darker than it is during the middle of the night FFS.

Is this on purpose or is something screwed with my contrast/brightness settings...

EDIT: playing on PC with mix of high/ultra.

Man, the bad voice acting for Triss reeaally stands out amongst the otherwise superb cast. It's a shame. I hate having conversations with her because of it; it ruins my level of immersion.

That actually seems like a great idea. Still curious about combat though. Would you suggest casting it in a crowd then taking enough hits to heal some and dodging back after it breaks? Or can I take the hits then dodge back just before it would break?

These merchants become crap-loot-for-coin exchange posts pretty soon. I just use them to dump stupid stuff, books that I have read and so on.

Since most merchants have a limited amount of coin, getting that coin for the future is vital.

Are you playing this on Death March?
The active shield breaks so fast that there is no point in casting it. You better get Sign % up if you want to take more than 3 hits.
And in a group? Yeah, that isn't a good idea. Those archers will kill you when the shield breaks afterward.

Got it, just ran into Oxenfurt real quick.

Now another real question: When is Gwent multiplayer coming!

Top priority fix I want to see for the game now is chest storage. I'm hesitant on making another gear set because I don't want another 11-15lbs clogging up my inventory. Weight limit is much less severe in this game than others, the problem is those other games usually have some means of persistent storage.

Witcher 2 had storage chests added in, which is really all it takes to fix the encumbrance problem. I have absolutely no idea why it's not in the base game of W3. The least they could do is give us one chest in Novigrad, that's literally all I need.

So I sent
Keira Metz
to
Kaer Morhen
.

I'm now doing the quest where I have to
free UMA from the curse, but Keira is not there...

Did something go wrong or will she turn up later?

So if I have already found Ciri. I can no longer do the
assassinating the king mission
can I?

The game never gave me the mission prior to heading to the Isle.
