I 'm way past that point so it looks like I just need to buy the map. Remember offhand which merchant? Thanks for the heads up regardless

The quests don't give xp so you might aswell just use a guide

I just
romanced Tess
and am now
about to go to Dijkstra to hear more about his plot to kill the king
. Maybe 2 or 3 other quests and around 10 hunts that i've collected but not done. I'm level 16 atm.

Can someone give me an idea of how far along the main storyline I am?

Like 1/4 if that

Nowhere. You literally have so much left it is pointless to even speculate. Ask us again next week. *Evil Grin*

I bought witcher 3 yesterday and i am confused about alchemy. It doesn't show what items i need to create some stuff. Do i have to pick up different plant and hope i have everything or is there a list telling which items i need?

You have to have formulae. Go to your alchemy tab and highlight a potion/oil, then simply mouse over/press right to highlight the items needed. It tells you.

I've nearly platted the game. My Geralt is an indomitable tank, and there isn't too much challenge to be found anywhere. Anyway, any ideas of a good place to get the combat cheevos is?

Tempted to play Witcher 2 and less tempted to play Witcher 1 to get my ideal save file.

I feel I am pretty damn good at Gwent.

I had to restart the game after about 25 hours because I changed the disc from region 2 to region 1.

I have been beating people left and right (NPCs like
Vivaldi Bank owner, Psychic and Zoltan were not even a challenge to me in this playthrough
) collecting their special cards in 1-2 tries. Last time when I wasnt collecting every card, It was taking alot of tries to win the special ones.

All you have to do is:

1. Bo-Lievee..!

2. Collect as many cards and manage your most powerful deck (removing any repeating cards or poor infantry bastard power1 cards)

3. Play smartly.

King Foltest's leader card with Siege horn and Decoys are a game-changer for me.

Something slightly disappointing but at the same time realistic I guess

You don't HAVE to do all the steps in a contract, you can just happen to run into the monster and kill it, which I did while clearing ?s and it said contract complete and i was like oh...OK :(

I like the investigation bits :(

Odd thing...they show Roach as being white in that armor but the only way you can get that color is through using a mod...possibly an "Alternate Roach Coloring" DLC being added

(or if there actually is a way in the game already then disregard this)

also to find the DLC once it's launched...

"Now we've got a new Nilfgaardian Armor Set for Geralt, along with an Elite Crossbow Pack. The armor and one of the crossbows come from the Baron's Quartermaster in No Man's Land, with more crossbows found at the Skellige Kaer Trolde Castle Blacksmith and the Novigrad Fancy Shop Owner."

from http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/02/the-witcher-3-heres-whats-in-this-weeks-free-dlc?utm_campaign=ign+main+twitter&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social

I'm not sure if anyone answered this yet, but there's a quest eventually that tasks you with picking a horse that isn't Roach for a race and if you win the race that horse then becomes Roach. Thats what I was told anyways. I happen to pick the brown one from the group, so I cant confirm it.

Alchemy is ultra broken, with one point in Delayed Recovery + Superior White Raffard's you can have permanent damage immunity. Same deal with Superior Blizzard you suddenly have infinite stamina and can chain cast spells or whirl forever.

Gwent is badly optimized and becomes too easy as time progresses. Hopefully mods will come out and fix this so that you can only choose a certain amount of special cards etc. It is impossible to lose after you have a good deck for one faction.

It's pretty cool. Geralt will say something like, "I wonder how much I can get for this thing." then you go by the nearest town, find the noticeboard and then collect your pay.

Can't haggle though.

I need that XP fix right now, half my missions turned gray when I hit lvl 19 including main quests.

Other than that (I'll stop until is fixed) what an epic night, kept exploring the map were I couldn't go due to the level of monsters (my shitty gear) mostly the south of it. Found lots of loot, epic monsters, etc

The vista on bastion on a breezy moonlit night though felt so good after slaying the cyclops

I already had the contract so he didn't say that, nice touch

I got xp from a grey mission. Not sure if I would've received more if it wasn't grey though.

If you've already overleveled most of the quests till they went grey, then you're most definitely not affected by the xp bug.

Yesterday I came across a dead guy and I could inspect him. Turns out it was a contract, I still dit the investigation bits and returned to the notice board after that. Maybe it's also dependant on the monster. I had to kill a noonwraith so I had to have something personal from the victim, for that you have to talk to people.

Its still based on the luck though. You cant always have the good cards. NPCs with a good Monster deck can easily beat you if you dont have all your best cards in the game.

I think the monster deck is easy to deal with. Most of the time A.I loses too many cards as it uses combination capabilities, You will lose one round and easily win the others.

I have not lost a single game with my Nilfgaardian deck after I optimized it. The hardest opponents are those that concentrate solely on Spy cards and reuse them via other means.

I'm definitely going to use mods for my second playthrough though.

Well that sucks, I'm gonna wait till the patch arrives though. I can't keep with this pace anymore, so freaking tired lol

I need to lay off the witcher for a bit

Monster decks are the easiest to deal with. They don't have access to spies, they have less medics and the muster cards they have can lead to them blowing through their hands quick.

Best thing with them is bide your time and they'll have no cards midway into the second round.

What does a Demetrium bomb actually do the golems and elementals? It says they're weak to it but when I use it all that happens is I can't cast spells, their damage output is the same. Doesn't seem to affect their defence either.

Spy cards aren't a big issue for me. When they use a spy on me, I swap it with a decoy. But then again, it all varies because of the cards I draw in each game/round.

You guys are right, I guess Monster deck isnt as tough to beat. Its just the multipliers in almost every card intimidates me.

With earth and fire elementals I suspect it blocks their ability to do the long range elemental version of the ground slam

Just beat the game, probably the best game I have played all year. Are there any hints of what the expansion DLC's will be ?
No hints necessary, you can just go read what they're about on their Steam store pages right now!

One of them is the content missing from Oxenfurt, the other is a new area (Touissant I think?). If the new area is even White Orchard-sized, I will lose my shit.

Is there am ETA for the patch that removes the xp bug? Bought the game, wanted to start tomorrow, now I'm not sure if I should just wait for the patch.

Ahh that's cool. I was wondering why the quests in Oxenfurt were a bit sparse. Thanks for the info!

Nothing more satisfying then sneaking into an area and stealing some treasure guarded by a monster twice your level, without it noticing :p

The reunion was emotional and the game really starts to pick up after Kaer Mohren. Losing Vesemir to that bastard really hounded me, because he kept all these individuals together at the fortress. You just know that it will never be the same again
(spoiler for all of Act 2)
Yeah, there's this feeling of an age slowly fading away that completely permeates Act 2 and Kaer Mohren. That's apparent from how Kaer Mohren itself is slowly decaying, how few Witchers remain, the ritual table that hasn't been used in half a century and of course the funeral pyre itself. It really hit me in that conversation with Eskel where he told me he wouldn't winter at Kaer Mohren anymore now that Vesemir is gone.

This works even better as to me, the axis of the whole story is the Geralt - Ciri relationship: one is a hundred year old dude from a dying line of monster hunters and the other is a young woman who is supposed to be the harbinger of a new age. Thematically, the game like their relationship is the confluence of the two.

So yeah, I'm totally in love with this game and pretty much everything it does.

Got damn, this fucking game. I experienced an awesome chain of quests tonight in Skellige. Side Quest spoilers:

Decided to clear out more greyed-out quests from my log tonight and one of them was the "Black Pearl". Had to travel to one of Skellige's islands and dive for a black pearl for this retired soldier's wife. Finding the item was easy enough. But once I had found it, I needed to meet the old soldier back in Novigrad. So I decided to run over to the nearest fast travel point I had already discovered by buying a few maps from a Skellige merchant.

It turns out that that fast travel point was on another smaller island with a lighthouse. Cool, no big deal. Except the lighthouse turned out to be haunted by several Wraiths and even had a Witcher Contract for the "Pentinent" after talking with the lighthouse care taker. So I figured, what the hell, I'll knock out this contract while I'm in the area. About 15 minutes later, and a reloaded save due to a death, the contract was cleared. But now I had to travel to the local village to claim my reward. Again, no worries, I had fast travel unlocked. So I pop on over and head into the local tavern to meet the actual quest giver. Upon entering, two local Skelligan give me a hard time and the quest giver actually sticks up for me. Then I sat down with him, had a drink and collected by reward.

As I go to leave the tavern, the two local give me some shit again. This causes myself and the quest giver to get to into a fist fight with these idiots. But one of them pulls their sword half-way through the fight and mortally wounds the quest giver. So of course I proceed to literally cut them in half. After paying my respects to giver and hearing his final words, I walk outside to the father of the two idiots crying on about how I murdered his two idiot sons and ended his line. Of course I killed enough for one day so I agreed to be arrested and brought forth to the local Jarl for trial.

It turns out that Jarl was one of the dudes I met at the King's wake with Yen, just after first arriving on Skellige. So he basically lets me off the hook with the condition that I help his son prove his honor in the Cave of Dreams. Cool, no big deal. So I ride out to meet this son and his small band of warriors. We arrive at the cave, wipe out a few Nekkers and proceed to take some hallucinatory drugs to go on a vision quest in order to confront our deepest fears. Que flying ghost whales, flying ghost fish and a few other surprises.

I make it through the cave with the Jarl's son and friends intact and I'm free to go my own way now that I have completed the favor to Jarl. I remember that I still have to turn in the quest for Black Pearl Novigrad still I pop over there.

Turns out the old soldier was getting this black pearl as a gift to his wife, But the kicker is that his is basically in a coma and has been non-responsive to him for several years. They used to joke with each other about him finding her a black pearl and he though if he finally found one, that it'd snap her out of coma. But it didn't work. Damn, I genuinely felt bad for the guy.

I'm only 65 hours in, but this is the game of the year. No doubt about it.

I haven't even gotten close to finishing this and I'm already anticipating the first Witcher game with Ciri as the lead. She is so dope and needs her own game already.

It's like that one time in 1891 when a London stonemason fucked up and dropped a stone on a random dude walking down the street. For some reason, Jack the Ripper never killed again.

Yeah, I might have made that up.

Agreed. Even though it gets better, her gameplay is a bit barebones but that doesn't inform how a Ciri game would actually play. She's a great character, with a great VA and is totally fit for a leading role in the next game.

And nothing more annoying than to later find out that item scaling ruined the reward you found in the chest...

This game will take me forever to finish, level 18 around 50 hours, just set foot on skellige last night.
Me too. I'm surprised by how large it is and how many people have finished it despite the length. Do these people not have school or jobs?! Shit, I'm playing as much as I possibly can, have even had a day or two off from work, and I just set foot on Skellige myself.

In my defense, I have almost completely cleared out Velen and only have 5-10 POIs left there.

Really suspect that the original design had alcohol refill potions and alchemist powder refill bombs, and then they scrapped it. Because the game drops alchemist powder all over the place but you rarely ever need it.

Yeah that's what I always wonder as well, been putting a lot of free time in this game, and when I see people that have finished it already, I'm like...what? How?

1000000000000000% agreed. Ciri rocks. Even though (early spoilers)
her gameplay is barebones, it feels so good and looks badass dashing around. So much more fun to manoeuvre as her than Geralt.

Yeah, there's a lot of little abandoned details all over the place... From obvious quest areas that didn't get a quest to items that seem to have no use and so on. Really makes you wonder how different (or perhaps "more complete") the inevitable enhanced edition is going to be. EE + mods + new/cheaper GPUs sounds like a fantastic revisit to Velen in 2017.

I know this game won't ever be as ridiculously popular as Skyrim was for mods, but I'm hoping we get at least some interesting new content and not just weight limit mods and SFX/Reshade tweaks. The guy who made Interesting NPCs should be all over Witcher, so can I please get a "Zora in Witcher 3" mod?

Can someone clarify something for me, on your world map, do all your merchants/hairdresser/herbalists/blacksmiths (etc) stay on your world map all the time? (PC on Death March! difficulty).

Mine only show when I'm not far from them geographically.... (say I'm near a herbalist in Novigrad, so on my map filter it reads 1 herbalist, reads 0 once I'm away from said herbalist..). Some icons are always on my map once though, like Boats, Pubs, Armor Tables and Grindstones and some merchants (which is odd), but the rest are proximity based.

I've heard Death March! affects the way some of the map navigation/icons works... and this feels intentional the way it works in-game, but then again could be a bug that needs squashing: any Igni light that can illuminate this appreciated :)

New to this thread.

Just starting playing the game a couple of days ago and can't get over how the main character sounds like Solid Snake. Very distracting.

Much like Deus Ex: Human Revolution on Give Me Deus Ex difficulty, there's a visual HUD option ticked off in the menu. You can turn it on to no penalty, however.
