Also finished.
The characters really grew on me in the second half of the game. Even teared up a few times, not gonna lie.
This is my favourite Witcher game by far and really one of my favourite games of all time.
Couldn't be happier with how it turned out and the ending I got.

Just finished. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played, really satisfying definitive ending and they did such a great job with Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri in this game, really playing off the past history and relationships beautifully. Gonna take some work for anybody to come close to this game on any level. Hats off to CD Projekt RED, they delivered.

I have no idea how much of the game is left. Around what level do you typically end the campaign at?

Between 32 and 35, depending on how many side quest you've done. You gain a ton of XP during Acts 2 & 3, so try to finish everything that's within your level range because you will be over leveled after completing the final Acts.

Screw this game on the Xbox One.

First update made the menus, map etc. more laggy, now the newest update has textures taking ages to load.

Wish I could go back to the game before updates without the XP bug, what a mess.

Dandelion's quest spoilers:

Man, that tone shift from Cabaret to Carnal Sins. First you spend ages doing all these mostly lighthearted and humorous tasks, expecting to see a fun little cabaret show as a reward, then suddenly one of the major side characters is horribly disfigured and you're tracking down a serial killer. CDPR really like pulling the rug from under you.

The story is clearly broken into three Acts.

Act 1 = Looking for Ciri
Act 2 =
Reuniting with Ciri
Act 3 =
Taking the fight to the King of the Wild Hunt

See this is the issue with people calling it acts without there actually being acts because I thought it was

Act 1 White orchard + Velen
Act 2 Novigrad + Skellige
Act 3 Everything after
the battle for kaer morhen

(Yet another) Yen/Triss relationship question:

I know Triss largely disappears from the story in the second half of the game but Yen remains predominant.

If you pick Triss does the game still pay off the results of that choice throughout the Yen scenes in the late game? Essentially does it continue to be a source of emotion between Yen and Geralt or is more just "I respect your decision, we can just be friends" and it's never mentioned again?

Why would you think that when you can can tackle Valen, Novigrad, & Skellige in any order you want?

It's awkwardly paced but Triss does come back and is a pretty major character for a good bit of the last third of the games plot. And there are a few moments when Yen gets catty with Geralt about the Triss thing, though never directly with Triss.

Yes, I know, I posted the same thing. Witcher 1 was least consistent with books, they fucked up by replacing Yen with Triss and Ciri with Alvin, and I am sure if they could go back in time and write it differently, they would like to do so. But alas, it is what it is. Thankfully Witcher 2/3 are fantastic, consistent with lore, and they handled pretty much everything as gracefully as possible.
It's not like Triss ever became the character from the novels (and the games are aware of that).
The game's great, but I really would not call it consistent with the "lore". There are plenty of cases where CD Projekt Red clearly took the franchise in their own direction - rewriting major events, simplifying things meant to remain ambiguous or unsaid, dismissing changes in characterization through a journal entry or a meta joke, throwing out pretty much everything the author has set up for the future of his characters (!).
As for the grace with which they handle things, well, just look at how full of popculture quotes and memes the world of The Witcher has become under CD Projekt - it's a literary adaptation, yet it nearly matches Fallout 2 in referential jokiness.
Again, the games are really good fun, but graceful or faithful adaptations they are not.

For those that have finished the game...
ok, having spent a while cleaning out velen, novigrad and white orchard of all nesta, treasure and all that stuff (not the contracts though) iv decided to finally go to get ciri from skellige. Just about to get there and a msg pops up saying go any further and i wont be able to complete some side quests. What exactly will I miss out on? (Iv recruited my allies, is that what they mean?)

Don't worry about it. Just make sure you've done all the sidequests relating to named characters Geralt knows.

All the rest (treasure hunts, sidequests, contracts) will still be available later on.

Hello, I'm at the beginning of Skellige, and I want to do the Velen/Novigrad "?" at the end of the game. Will they give me the same experience than now ?

And is it hard to reach the level 35 in Death March ?

The side quests you can miss out on are ones given to you by you're friends/allies.

Finished the game last night and just now while roaming around noticed you can toggle through the quest objectives by pressing the right thumbstick. That would have come in handy a hundred or so hours ago.

Might be without a video card for a while, is hearthstone really the only alternative to gwent for some video game card action? MGS AC!D 2 or a tactical game isn't the same...

...

Is Hearthstone fun enough to play a small-medium amount of without feeling pressure to get some microtransactions?

Yeah, I'd say so. When you first start you can do quite a lot of things to earn gold/get packs.

There has to be, because it's damn near impossible to get above level 35/36 in one play through.

That's odd, I'm about half way through level 37 and possibly have enough left to get at least close to 38 through all the tiny bits of exp you get here and there.

I did most of the story content before reports of the exp bug surfaced so maybe that has something to do with it.

I realize I probably don't need it at this point in the game, but where the hell do I get the Killer Whale potion? I've looked it up on YouTube and the videos show it being gathered in two different places (which I went to in game and it was not there). Is it randomized? Cause that really sucks if it is. I'm already level 33 and at the end of the game, but I just wanted to collect everything.

I think the most annoying thing I'm running into during combat is trying to roll and finding myself accidentally getting back on the horse, allowing the enemies to get a ton of free hits as Geralt slowly gets back off. Makes me wish Roach would just disappear during combat and if I do need to escape, just whistle to get him back at that point.

I just gotta say.

Holy SHIT does this game have the worst underwater bullshit ever. Stupid fucking drowners keep nudging me back down and then Geralt has to think 5 seconds before he can move up, in which time another drowner comes and hits me.

This is the times when I am able to dive, because half the time it's glitched and won't let me.

And don't even get me started on those goddamn sirens. I think I'd rather play those awful diving sections in Black Flag instead.

I wonder how long it will take me to finish this game. I am currently level 10 and it seems like there is unlimited content. My Main Quest is still for level 6 and there are still tons of questions marks on the map. Of course also treasure quests or regular side quests.
Did you guys really do all this? I can imagine that you really get way ahead of the main quest in terms of level.

Quick fire crossbow. Problem solved.

This game is going to ruin a lot of other older RPGs for me... its just going to be so hard to go back to the 'stale' dialogue. The script here is fantastic, I want to try out all the options just to hear more of the back story and I generally never do that.

well.....there's no going back. this game shits on all others of the same genre.

i wanted to do more dragon age and mass effect but i don't know now.

Is the Sword of Destiny trailer song in the OST?

I think so? Parts of it definitely do appear I.e. "LELELELELELELELELELE"

SO GOOD.

It's not. Sword of Destiny was made only for the trailer with the same name. If you ask me, it's the best song in the game. It looks as though the music in the trailers are collages of various other tunes and additional melodies, and thus parts of the Sword of Destiny song can be heard in other tunes. All the trailer themes are on Youtube though, I'm fairly certain.

side note: I wish free DLC was just an update. I hate having to remember to go find it and "purchase" it.

Patches/updates cost more fees for developers than DLC. Bizarre, I know.

imlerith is so fucking awesome lmao.

the whole wild hunt soundtrack whenever they appear is so epic.

im nearing the end, almost at 70 hours

this is my favorite game of all time. it has passed red dead.

when is a good time to enter the tourney, once you have collected 90% of the cards?

Once you have a lot of hero cards and spies. You should have a decoy or two and some scorch cards. I wouldn't say you need 90% of the cards though. It's about having the best cards moreso than the most. When you can easily beat the harder opponents of the Gwent side missions on your first try(like Madman Lugos), then you're ready.

I entered the tournament after defeating all of the "main" Gwent players, which meant that almost half of my deck were hero cards. Needless to say, I steamrolled though the entire tournament. CDPR should've put restrictions on the amount of hero cards you can have in your deck.

there are no acts, people are just calling them acts. The game never mentions acts

The official guide has 3 acts. So yes there are acts. Don't assume otherwise. The game is set up in such a manner too that even if is not labeled in game, you know there are 3 acts. The way it's broken up is as follows:

Act 1 -
white orchard, velen, novigrad, the skillege isles (EVERYTHING PRE KAER MORHEN)
Act 2 -
everything that entails kaer morhen, finding Ciri and the battle of kaer morhen included.
Act 3 -
everything post kaer morhen

Remember this is the OFFICIAL GUIDE. Which I believe the developers obviously had a say. So I would believe this.
