The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT2| Wanted to find Ciri, but everything Gwent wrong

Well, I for one don't really care about builds.
I switch between armor sets every now and then. I use them only from the look, don't care whether it's a light, medium or heavy. I'm wrecking havoc already with hybrid build with both fast and heavy attack attached, combined with the queen sign upgrade. There were a couple of times when I had 10 unused skill points, I rarely upgrade my skills and attach my mutagens. I don't craft mutagens either, just use what's available. The game is not forcing us to min-maxing the stats & skills, it's already easy even on on death march at later levels (15+).

My build is basically tge first two columns of the fighting perks. All maxed out to 5, I basically one hit a lot of things due to the lose 125 vitality points ever second for 5 seconds perk.

That crippling Strikes 125 damage is pretty bad, considering bleed can do so much more damage as it is based on enemy HP. End game monsters have thousands, and you can easily get normal bleed to do 500-1000 HP damage per sec, instead of 125 per sec. Normal bleed doesn't stack with Crippling Strikes bleed.

The quests in this game continue to impress me. I just finished the two Craite-sibling ones and both were really great, especially Cerys one.

I trusted her to trick the Hym, but when I threw the baby in the oven I was actually fearing it backfiring badly. Still don't really get how she pulled it off.

How come my bleed points go up past 125 (per second) sometimes then if they don't stack? I remember once it went as high as 458.

Sure it wasn't poison or something else showing those numbers? Or maybe you didn't have crippling strikes slotted, and were actually using normal bleed?

So I just completed Family Matters at level 12.

The exp reward was 5 points. Is that part of the bug, or is that just the game doing what it's supposed to, not giving you 200 exp for completing quests 6 levels below your current level?

I will look into it by changing my weapon etc. Do you know or have a link to any good build lusts?

There is some good discussion on builds here.

Quoting one of my later posts in that thread:

I think I'm pretty much settled on my final build. Currently level 18, but I can see the end build. It will be as follows:

- 9 Sign abilities
- Griffin School (for stamina regen and Sign intensity)
- Acquired Tolerance (for decoctions)
- Synergy (for more mutagen boost)

All 4 Greater Blue Mutagens. All griffin gear. Swords can be whatever. I am looking at Feline swords to start with, but might change as stronger weapons become available.

Igni can easily kill off the strong monsters that ignite. Weak stuff like drowners, nekkers, humans, hags can be Aard+OHKO. Strong monsters than don't ignite like elementals and wraiths can be taken down quickly with decoctions like Archgriffin decoction and Reliever's decoction. Healing is covered by Ekhidna decoction.

I haven't seen all of the enemies in this game, but I doubt any will give me trouble with this build.

So where does the horse armor, alternate outfit for Triss, etc. show up? I've downloaded all of the available DLC from GoG, but see no option to enable anything.

Goddamn, I finally read the book "She Who Knows" that I've had in my bag for a while.

The fucking thing under the tree was the witches' MOTHER?! Oh my god, that is fucked! Definitely not a chance in hell I release it on my second playthrough.... So creepy.

how come in RDR you can become attached to a random horse you break-in and ride around in, but Roach is such an insufferable prick?

To be fair. In the books it's written that Geralt never is especially attached to any horse and they keep dying on him. He just calls every single one of them Roach.
So in my head every time you whistle, it's a different horse that arrives every time!

Coincidentally with the same gear!

Yeah, no one likes Roach. Not even Geralt. I was riding around one time and got off Roach to see if I could geometry-cheese myself up a mountain. I then noticed off in the distance that a basilisk was attacking Roach, spitting acid at it and everything. I was tempted to let him be.

Loving the game so far but god dammit I fucking HATE riding in this game, they really need to fix the collision system, the horse not only seems like a magnet to trees but also stops at fucking everything.

Makes the traveling in the game so annoying.

Any word on why the Alternative Look For Tris isn't up on the EU Playstation Store? I'm assuming it's up on the U.S. one.

yeah, it is up on the US store.

hmm, i know riding can be annoying, but the auto-driving ai follows paths. how can you run into trees then unless you're riding manually?

yo the autodriving AI is crap too, it gets stuck on fences, weird ledges, slightly odd level geometry, not to mention roach (being a horse) steers really weirdly

I can't help but feel it'd be solved if Roach just auto-lept over things instead of slowing to a stop every time

Dat Bloody Baron questline tho!
During the chain I made the decision to save the children from the Crones of the marsh which lead to the Barons wife being transformed into some kind of monster and eventually dying when the spell was lifted and then the Baron killing himself. Seeing the Baron's wife in her mutated state sort of got to me and it also made me feel disturbed, disgusted and slightly anxious and when the Baron hangs himself I felt a bit sad and depressed, yet relieved at the same time that the man hopefully had found his peace in death. This game man! Don't think a game has ever managed to evoke such feelings in me.

lol, everyone loves the Baron's quest, rightfully so, but after playing through the whole game it kind of sucks that no other quest matches it. still one of the best games ever made though.

oh yeah, that would be great.

lol I actually use roach as a decoy when I'm fighting groups of enemies, helped me out so much in the beginning.

Am I the only one that doesn't think Roach is all that bad? I mean, I'm not discounting people having bad experiences, but I haven't had anywhere near the experience of people that loath her.

Roach is just there. I ride her to a destination and occasionally fight with her, and that's it. On occasion she gets stuck so I just run elsewhere and whistle. Riding isn't exceptional, but I don't get the hatred.

This have anything to do with using a controller?

Hey! So I don't really play open world games that often, so while I'm enjoying The Witcher 3, some aspects are pretty overwhelming.

I'm currently level 5 and...

There are SO SO SO many items and ingredients and so many things to keep track of. How do I know what is important, what I should be upgrading/crafting/buying/focusing on/etc?

I'm trying to level up by doing side quests (I'm constantly lower level than the story quests) and I keep going to the ? Spots all over the place, but things out level me by a ton (I'm currently in Velen) and I get my ass kicked. And when I do find side quests I can do, it is pitiful XP. (Like 25-50)

So yeah, anyone wanna help out a noob?

To sum up: what's important when it comes to all these items? how can I stay consistent with leveling?

So the Wolven Gear
is in Khaer Mohren
(sp?) but I cant fast travel there... must I wait until the main quests get me there to even start to search for the gear?

do quests around your leve
always check notice boards
even if your level is too high or low you can still get valuable items like potion recipes and better gear
XP isnt everything, the main quests are more then enough to level you
Play Gwent because its fun
craft EVERYTHING in alchemy because once its made you can restock simply by resting

Turn off the POIs (?). Most of them are worthless anway.
I turned off the POIs as soon as I reached Velen at level 4, and now I'm level 30 and don't feel gimped at all. Death March.

always pick up loot and crafting materials, you can sell junk and extra stuff.
make sure to buy saddlebags from merchants that allow you to carry more weight.

the witcher gear is the best stuff so always try to craft and upgrade them.

always buy maps and manuscripts/formulae from merchants because they unlock locations for witcher gear and potions/oils.

side quests don't give a lot of exp, obviously, but Witcher Contracts do. and you might as well do some story missions on a consistent basis because they give tons of exp.

Turn off the POIs (?). Most of them are worthless anway.
eh, i wouldn't do that, exploring is fun and monsters give some exp too. not to mention you can run into useful loot.

Thanks so much for the help! This game really just expects you to know what you're doing. Not necessarily a bad thing but I really just feel it's over my head a lot of the time.

Is there a better way to know what ingredients you need to buy from merchants than to look at things you can craft, see what you need, then go back and buy that thing, then go back and see what you need next, and repeat forever?

Also, and I'm not sure if they even exist, but I have no potions of any kind and have no idea where to get them or make them. Same with bombs.

For making potions and bombs you need to get the formula, either by buying via merchants or getting them via loot. Just play the game, it may look overwhelming at first, but browsing the tutorial section in the game will get you sorted most of the time. Once you know the system the game is fairly simple and fun to explore :)

Oh, and don't skip the Gwent quests if you really care about Gwent or getting the Gwent achievement (collecting all cards) since there are missable cards.
