Anyone done this new Wolf School quest?

Can't reach the second crystal that's needed to open the portal in Kaer Morhen. It's right in front of me! Super frustrating.

The frustrating bullshit in this game is finally rearing its head at about a dozen hours in. Namely it's fighting large groups of human enemies with archers. You can parry and dodge all day, but these fuckers will just now you down and you can do nothing about it. Really fucking annoying.

You're having a hard time because you are ignoring a big source of your damage: bombs. Throw some grapeshot and dancing star and watch them explode and flail about on fire while you chop down whoever is left. Bombs are really great against humans because they tend to bunch up and move slowly.

I just left during that decision. There was no thinking behind it, my brain just ragequit and I instinctively chose the bit of dialog to get me out of the quest fastest because it got so dumb and I did not want to be a part of it.

5 seconds after it was over I realized what I had done. My brain finished rebooting

I hope you reloaded an earlier state immediately after that and chose the right decision.

I seriously hope that they somehow redo this entire section. It really stands out like a sore thumb in what is otherwise truly a once in a decade kind of game.

Holy shit, there's an archgriffon on a remote island on akelige that one shots me. I'm level 33
Aah yeah, that one. It's level 48, or seems so given the recommended level of the treasure hunt quest you get near its nest

No, fuck that, I'm not spending one additional second with that quest. In this playthrough at least.

How are you underpowered because of it? I haven't touched gwent (well tried it once, and didn't feel it) but have had no issues getting through any quest really.

hmm, felt to me like as the opponents always have the better cards. Maybe I'm just bad at this minigame ;) Don't like these card games at all..

This game constantly surprise me with the quality of it's world building. Some mild spoilers ahead.

Decided to clear some sidequests, chose The Black Pearl. The nearest marker was Eldberg Lighthouse, so I travelled there. On arrival, the place was covered in a thick mist. Geralt remarked that it wasn't natural. I made my way toward the meeting spot for the quest, Wraiths appeared from the mist and I swiftly dispatched them, a couple of bodies lay on the path, upon searching them Geralt commented on their wounds. Something strange was happening here, but I had somewhere to be.

When I finished The Black Pearl, I decided to run back to the continent instead of taking the nearest fast travel. On my way I saw two children kneeling down prodding a skeleton, when I approached they stood and tired to make themselves look inconspicuous.

Roaming further I found a village, Arinbjorn, I stopped at the local tavern looking for a game of Gwent and a warm fire, and I was approached by two Skellige boys who had an unfavourable view of mainlanders. After a brief discussion, a stranger approaches and chastises them for their rudeness, a man named Jorund. After introducing himself, he invites me to sit with him for a drink.

I took him up on his offer and sat with him, conversation steered toward a monster contract, a ghost, that was haunting Eldberg Lighthouse. I accepted the quest and headed back to investigate the mist.

_

I love how everything naturally fell in to place, this world is full of little moments like this that creates quest chains and links and tiny snippets of story that give the places you explore a real sense of place.

It really is unlike anything I've experienced before, I'm really excited to see what CDPR do with CP.

I did that quest yesterday and what happened after that contract quest was unexpected.
Is there no way to save Jorund? He was such a nice guy and he had to get killed by those idiots.

Good call, I completely forgot about them actually. I used bombs a ton in the Witcher 2. Not sure why I haven't used them in this game. Thanks.

Almost have my Wolf gear. I've grown so used to my Ursine set that it looks kinda off. :lol

In all seriousness, though, it's still a great-looking armor. Now I just need to craft/find runes to put in it. Everything's in my Griffin and Ursine sets.

I am also, once again, out of money. Managed to make a bit while exploring for the Wolf set, but I needed to buy some Dimeritium ingots and those are damned expensive.

Might save it for NG+, if it rolls around. Get at least some sense of progression.

does that carry over and you can't romance Triss?

Not sure, I mean she was kinda distant, but it is possible she would be like that anyway. I think I could tell her I love her and she would be with Geralt, she does love him after all.

But Yen is Yen, Geralt + Yen is the only possible choice :) I love their little wordfights, the pun one was hilarious.

Applesauce

Boom! Bitch-slapped!
Still waiting on NG+. My current Geralt has so much cool stuff I don't want to start all over with a new Geralt.

If you're on PC you can fake NG+ by manually adding all the gear you had back via dev console. Kind of a shitty way to go about it but going by that tweet you posted earlier NG+ isn't coming very soon.

Do I need to complete all Main Quests to complete the game? Can I beeline to Skellige? Novigrad is boring the shit out of me and I'm so ready to move on.

Yes?

But you can just go wherever you want, no one is holding you back. That said, you'll never "beat" the game if you don't do the main quest.

Velen, Novigrad, or Skellige - you can go anywhere right from the start. Main quests dictate where you should go, not where you must go. There's a variety of level-ranges in all three areas, and you'll also come across things vastly above your level in all three areas. The game is 100% designed to have the player bouncing around regions, and some quests will even demand it.

Let the wildest of hunts begin.

I need some help from my fellow gaf players, the game is overwhelming eith too much information, im new to this rpg and i really want to understand(especially since it seems
Like every new game now has tons of rpg elements"

How do you do to memorize what you need to make potions, crafts or whatever? Where do you know how to get them? Sometimes i kill a monster and get a part, sometimes i buy from merchants but this all seems very ramdom, like there is not an easy way to follow all this?

Then im carrying tons of shit and i dont know if i should sell it or dismantle it for scrap, maybe this game is too much for me :D

Do different barbers have different inventories of hairstyles?

Is there a long beard anywhere? Or any way to get Geralt to go back to default where he grows his own beard again?

I did have nearly 60k until all but 5k of my money just disappeared. It is the most annoying bug I have had.

Have the devs mentioned anything about fixing the "person in distress" glitch where the keys to unlock the cages can't be found? I'm only missing two gwent cards but they're from one of the guys locked up that I can't rescue.

They also need to sort out when once a key (and quest notes) opens a chest it doesn't change to a saleable item.

For a while there I regretted extending Aard's range. But then I started fighting flying enemies, and, boy, was that a good decision!

Two birds with one stone.

Just refer to the crafting/alchemy menus when you need to - no need to memorise.

For the ingredients:
  • Herbs come from the environment or herbalists (located in some villages and most large towns).
  • Monster parts are named after the monster they belong to and will randomly drop from said monsters.
  • Crafting supplies like metals or leathers can be bought from blacksmith/armourers or acquired by disassembling weapons or armour.
  • Silver is rather rare and can be acquired by disassembling silver swords.
  • Disassembling items is a good way to get the other items not listed here. Be careful doing this, because it will only break down a crafting ingredient into a lesser form.
  • Strong alcohols (for making potions) seem to be pretty much any alcohol you can buy... I don't personally understand this aspect myself. You'll find more than you need by looting points of interest.

For crafting/alchemy diagrams:
  • Find them at treasure sites or points of interest, generally as the big chest contained within, or even off the beaten path somewhere. Far as I'm aware, they're randomly generated so there's no specific place to find any one diagram.
  • Witcher gear is the exception to the above. The diagrams are at set points in the world. Also, if you have green (witcher) gear, don't sell it because you can upgrade it down the road.

For dealing with encumberance, the main things hogging up your inventory will be animal pelts or excess equipment. Just sell or disassemble them while keeping my above tips in mind. And one other thing, junk-classified items will say whether they have a crafting purpose or can be freely sold.

Hope this help.

Alt Yrden is much better at dealing with flying enemies than Aard. Don't waste any point on Aard. Well, maybe 1 point in the alt version as you dont need to slot it, but even that seems a waste.

Just had to chime in here and say how incredible this game is. Haven't played an RPG this good in a long long time.

If I had a complaint, it would be on the graphics end.

I commend CDPR for brute forcing all the good rendering techniques. They have been known to do this in the past. But they just couldn't solve the lighting for interiors making it look flat (seems like ambient lighting in the interiors is inheriting from the sky). I understand it's a very hard problem to solve, but going from the beautiful outdoors to the inside makes me cringe almost every time (except caves with no light source). I guess the tradeoff was go with dynamic TOD or baked (a la AC:Unity). I would rather have the dynamic TOD though.

Anyway, best game released so far this year!

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I am still super early in the game, level 9 and on Family Matters, but still have such a problem using my skill points. I think I have 8 sitting around and cannot for the life of me decide how I should proceed with them.

Not sure if this is the right place; but hopefully someone have some answers/help.

XBOX ONE: (Digital Copy - patch 1.04) The game crashes, again-had not since 1.03- from the very first screens when one starts the game, back to the dashboard. I have done a hard reset unsuccessfully. I've uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and still the same problem. I have no problems with any other game in my library--or app-- but this one.

EDIT: I tried the CD Projekt Red official site but found no answers.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem. Thanks in advanced.

If you go clean shaven he'll grow his beard back. But it's not as gradual as it is at the start of the game. It'll jump from stubble to full beard overnight at some point.

Is there a long beard at any of the barbers?

How do you prefer playing? More sword, or more signs? You should figure out what build you want to go with and then put points towards that. Use this link to theorize some builds.

Wolf gear is absolutely the best looking stuff in the game but I felt that the positions they put a few of the diagrams in we're just nasty. Thankfully most were near fast travel signposts.

Second to the wolf gear is the bear gear. I like the second version of the cat gear the others all suck and why blue and don't like the griffin gear at all.

Anyone else like me think it's SO possible that Ciri is the main protagonist in Cyberpunk 2077 using her different worlds ability.

I was disappointed not to find more (very minor spoiler
life or variety in the worlds during the quest with avalla'ch.

Yep..It's one of the only things left I have to conquer. I lost patience too many times.

Yep me too I'm pretty much resigned to not collecting all the POI's in skellige that shit is just way to much boring for me, but I wanna know of any other spots like this fight. Definitely the hardest monster in the game.

Sweet, thanks.

Mostly a swords guy with some signs peppered in.

edit: Is Wolf Gear medium armor or light?

Wolf gear is medium.

If you prefer swords, either go with Cat School and Light Gear (for fast attacks and criticals), OR go with Bear School and Heavy Gear (for heavy attacks, defense and adrenaline).
Medium gear is great for a Signs build, along with Griffin School ability.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
My build was all about mobility and maximising crits. So light armour and fast attacks spec'd to do bonus crit damage, and signs like igni and yrden that immobilise enemies to set them up for crits.

My build is basically the first two columns of the fighting perks. All maxed out to 5, I basically one hit a lot of things due to the lose 125 vitality points ever second for 5 seconds perk.

Ok, I know even right before the game came out, they were talking about if you killed an animal, that eventually a monster would be attracted to it (or something like that. How different monsters liked different animals)? Or there was some way of leaving meat or something around to attract a monster?

Is this only for contracts or can you try to lure out a monster at any time?

And if so, how do you exactly do this?

Quen and a weapon with poison/burn/freeze damage is OP. At level 35 I took the griffin down in about 3 minutes. Just strike him till the status effect kicks in and defend from there.
