Me and my friend just finished a multiplayer coop session.
He haven't played the game or watched any mechanic tutorial so, I let him play the prologue and 001-A first, and he seem confused like we all did.
In the middle of our 3 hour coop session, he can counter and evade properly. He can also draw morphs using the stick. He thought the game was very fun.
I'm planning on bringing this game to a friend's place for a few hours today and I'm hoping I can teach him how to play well enough so that he doesn't get frustrated when we try the missions. I'm a bit concerned.
Now I'm trying to have Pure Platinum in all missions, but.. I'm stuck at the Operation 000 hahahaha... any tips to beat Secret Mission 06 (Normal) on Op 000?
i keep hearing people saying stuff about how there's some things you need to learn and skills in game to purchase before you really get a grasp about how to play the game. Can anyone point me in the direction of these tips and suggestions?

I'd say the most important thing is to purchase Unite Guts and Unite Spring as soon as you can. I think they become available right after the prologue level, you can buy them from the WonderMart in between levels.
They're basically your block and dodge moves, absolutely essential stuff so make sure you get those and learn how to use them.

After Guts and Spring, I think Speed Charge might be the most useful in the early game, especially if you like to spend a lot of energy on multi-unite morphs.
So I finally beat this last night, and man oh man what a ride it was. This is just a top-notch action game through and through. While the idiosyncratic controls might not be for everyone, they just feel absolutely perfect by the end of the game. I can't believe how fluid drawing the shapes becomes, and how many choices you have for how to approach the differing combat scenarios because of this system.
The pacing of the game is brilliant, and there is more variety in gameplay than you could even imagine looking at the game from the outside. Though I don't really care too much about game stories, I must say that this one comes together really nicely by the end, and feels like a perfect representation of a Sentai series in videogame form. The whole ending sequence really is just remarkable.
I love this game so much. It is a shining example of the creativity that can be applied to a well-established genre when a truly inspired director is allowed to stretch his wings. This is a must-play title and something that you can't ignore if you like action gaming.
Just finally finished the game after a 6 hour marathon session starting early this morning. Completely lost track of time, and the GamePad died while I was playing. Thankfully I've been using the Pro Controller and was able to just put the GamePad on it's cradle and continue playing.
Overall, it was a solid game and I had a lot of fun with it, but it really has some major problems and could have used some more refinement. Overall, I'll remember the game and I praise it's uniqueness, but it didn't quite live up to the high bar set by games like Viewtiful Joe.
Major complaints:
Platforming: I found platforming in the isometric view to be pretty frustrating, especially in the later stages. Whether zoomed in or zoomed out, it was tough to measure the character's depth in space, and I found myself falling numerous times due to that. It just didn't work that well.
Pacing: Simply put, I think the game just went on for too long. For the most part, I liked the last series of operations, but it definitely felt like there was some filler in the middle. For example,
I think if there were only three statues to guard instead of 5, it might have helped move the game along. They could have removed a couple of the redundant boss fights, and really made it feel like you were always doing something new, as opposed to just getting a break from the usual.
Boring enemies: While the game offers a pretty diverse selection of enemies to face, there were a couple in particular that I just didn't enjoy fighting and would hate when they materialized. Number one would be the turtle enemies. They're just a pain to fight, and not as a result of challenge, but rather just wearing them down.
Drawing patterns got too complex for their own good: While I can pull off the first four drawing shapes almost flawlessly, I found some of the later shapes to be really hard to nail down consistently.
This goes double for White, which is too bad since I liked his speed and freeze bonuses. But my success rate with Wonder Claws must have been at like 50-60 percent, always getting the whip instead. Really frustrating when you need to switch to him quickly to open up an enemy weak point while their down, and you lose most of your time trying to get the drawing right.
Interior camera angles on the GamePad: Whenever there was a section when you entered a cave or building and had to look on the GamePad, I knew I wasn't going to have fun. The camera is so cramped and it makes the drawings even harder to pull off when you don't have the visual feedback to guide you. Just horrible sections that I never looked forward to.
With my gripes out of the way, I got to give major recognition to the music of the game. When that old serial-like song played at the beginning of the game, I had a grin from ear to ear. It was fantastic and captured the spirit of the game beautifully. The rest of the music in the game kept up, and I found myself humming the theme after playing. I can't remember the last game I played that left a memorable theme with me.
Also, the writing and localization is fantastic. Even with things that normally annoy me, like 'noob' and 'bro', I didn't mind it here because you quickly realize that the writers are in on the joke as opposed to oblivious. There's also some just great lines buried in there that would catch me off guard.
And finally, for the majority of the game, the gameplay is fantastic. The combat is well thought out, and considering how many options you have, everything seemed to have a good counter option. If anything, it's overwhelming at times, but the game gives you enough opportunities to explore its depth over time. I just wish I didn't have as much trouble drawing those later shapes so I could've gone even deeper into the mechanics.

Btw, you DO need atleast Platinum on every operation to unlock the Platinum Paragon bottle cap.
I'm only missing 2 Pure Platinums and I replayed the epilogue to see if it would give it to me considering my average would definitely be good enough but no dice.

Vorkken is incredibly difficult. I can't quite figure out the strategy other than waiting for him to punch and then pressing ZL to unite-blob, giving you a moment to attack. Seems really hard to evade when he does the hammer attack. Any advice on him? I did beat him, but I lost so many continues and I'm about to start a second playthrough on normal
I'm working right now but I'll try to blast through 9-C later today to see if that works. I really think you need all Platinum minimum though because the moment I turned my final consolation prize into a Pure Platinum I got the Silver Wonderdude bottle cap or whatever it's called.

I actually find White to be one of the easiest shapes, which I am glad of when I get to part where I just need to use it to open something. Or when climbing, a couple of times I was sending a sword multi-unite out as usual to deal with enemies while my leader just climbs - but accidentally hit the A button and made the sword my main morph. No prob, I just whipped out the claws again as my main morph and thus didn't fall to my death.
I usually just do the first two parts of the shape really short, just tap one direction, let the stick recenter, tap the opposite direction, let the stick recenter, and then hold the opposite direction for as long as needed to get the size claws I want.
With the indoor sections, the camera is a bit fiddly, so I usually hit minus and put the gamepad screen up on the tv for those parts, which seems to help me. Using the shoulder buttons, the right stick, and tilting the pad as needed seems pretty easy at this point.
As far as the turtles go, I think learning to take them out quickly is pretty satisfying.

The range can be tricky to judge at times though. and I'm not sure it works on stunned enemies.(but honestly I haven't played much with the mechanic yet. I've just been charging Unite Camp right outside of the range that triggers missions.)
It's not an industry darling, unfortunately, and will be lost amidst other games when GOTY awards roll around. You can hear it in the voices of people who aren't really interested in the game but have been following the reviews. They just don't "get" why this would score well (where it has, usually dismissing high reviews because they're not from IGN or Gamespot), or why this could possibly be as good as Grand Theft Auto V, The Last of Us, Battlefield 4, and so on.
But this isn't unusual. Happens with a good few super original and brilliantly envisioned games every generation. It would be nice if the market wasn't like this but it has been for decades. Sometimes original, amazing games explode, other times they're lost on the masses. Happened last generation. Happened the generation before that. And so on.
At the moment the only thing that's important is that individuals buying the game are enjoying it for what it is, and feel like they've gotten their money's worth. The immediate future might not prop The Wonderful 101 up on the pedestal it deserves, but time will decide its cult status, and I'm confident like so many games before it The Wonderful 101 will deservingly create its own legacy.

Unite guts hand and hammer. For the rest, just dodge, and then attack vorkken as soon as he stops attacking. Try this, then mention if it worked well or not.
What's the quickest way to defeat those "space amoebas?" The big blue blobs with the red cores? The sword seems to work best, and can deflect the laser it shoots, but perhaps there's a quicker strategy?
Also, do my eyes deceive me or is the red core a self-destructing bomb?
Not a big deal, but that wasn't me. I'm way behind a lot of you guys in playtime-- I'm still in the middle of my Hard playthrough! I haven't even attempted a Platinum run yet

What! I thought the enemies in this game were great. They all felt pretty unique to fight against and there's a lot of little tricks to each one. I struggled with the turtles at first too, but once I got more comfortable with guarding their attacks and knowing when to use multi unite morphs they got a lot more fun to fight against. I actually love how this game kind of forces you to use all of the weapons in some way against the basic enemies.

Only other thing I know about the enemy is that Claws work on them too. I honestly haven't tried much else. They die pretty quickly with big swords and don't have alot of attacks.
And the time and combo requirements in encounters with them are almost all extremely lax.

RUN YOU CANT PARRY EXPLOSIONS DON'T TRY IT LEARN FROM ME NEITEIO
Intriguing. I imagine the claws are the quicker way? I haven't found Wonder White yet, so can't say. (Haven't played since doing 3B last night.) Hmm...
Thanks to the Wonder Director link, I noticed that PhantomResonance posted a bunch of 101% Hard Mode Pure Platinum runs. He's apparently been focusing on the hardest levels in the game first. Go check out the videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/PhantoMResonancE/videos
There are some spoilers though, as he has every secret character. As well as the last special morph. The secret characters he uses in his videos are:
Unite Hand - Poseman
Unite Sword - Jeanne
Unite Gun - Bayonetta
Unite Whip - Wonder Pink
Unite Hammer - Rodin
Unite Claw - Wonder Daddy
Unite Bomb - Wonder Gramps.
Ok, some here might remember me having quite substantial problems with getting to grips with this game. I simply couldn't understand what the game wanted from me. Then today, being fed up by Splinter Cell freezing my WiiU 3 times in a row while trying to play SvM, I put W101 back in, fired up mission 3 on easy and it suddenly just clicked.
I don't know how to describe it, but I just was in tune with the games logic. Suddenly that wall that made it impossible for me to enjoy the game was gone...
Now the only thing holding me back is my own reaction time/skill. The game did a complete Xbone 180 on me.
TL.DR: I've finally seen the light and embraced the brilliance of W101.
I'm so happy right now.
