So I just went and saw this movie. I really dislike seeing these movies that cause the Oscar committee to splooge but I gave it a shot. Had no idea what the movie was about beyond the title. So what the hell did I watch? I was truly bored to tears watching this movie. Nothing of consequence happened - at all. And seeing Marissa Tomei's boobs did nothing for me.

Who is with me? I have a feeling GAF is also circle jerking with the Oscar committee on this film.
 
Eh, I thought it was pretty good. Watched it in the same weekend as Gran Torino and I liked Wrestler a hell of a lot more than that movie.
 
Go watch Iron Man or something, this movie was all sorts of bad ass.

No, it just means you probably require big explosions and guns blazing to enjoy a movie. It's a great movie that told a depressing story.

pretentious? How so. I thought the movie was very real, actually one of its best qualities is how real it came off. Now "realness" doesn't make a movie good, but couple it with great performances, some funny moments, and an interesting story... it really pulls you in.

Also aren't you the one who doesn't like Robocop?

Nothing in the movie had weight behind it. I didn't care about any of his problems. None of the characters had deep backgrounds for me to invest in. I started to sympathize for his daughter but as soon as that plot point picks up its quickly put to an end. I realize its supposed to be another failure in his attempt to live outside of the ring, but i didn't feel it.

That comparison doesn't work. You would have to equate those CD sales with movie ticket sales, or reviews of Miley Cyrus' album with reviews of The Wrestler. But comparing sales of one thing with reviews of another doesn't work.

You have these beats in the movie that are supposed to be meaningful. His reconciliation with his daughter and then its ultimate end were meant to carry weight. But I didn't really care. We get one scene with them together and the director wants me to buy into their relationship. Didn't happen for me. Its not that these plot points were meaningless but they had very brief buildups.

It was meaningful to me. It probably didn't have enough effect because the movie was too real for you. Maybe if Bay had taken the reigns and had "AeroSmith - I don't wanna miss a thing" playing it would have hit home for you.

Are you dense? The Wrestler has a 5 million dollar box office, clearly it's not a popular movie. And last time I checked Miley Cyrus's CD doesn't have a 98% aggregate review score. Are you suggesting that popularity of the public is the same thing as critical acclaim?What a pointless post, kind of like your topic. Go watch more X-Men movies, they seem to suit you better.
