The X-Files S10 |OT| The Truth Is Still Out There - Mondays 8/7c

I remember reading an interview about Duchovny's fear of typecasting years ago, and there're always rumors suggesting that he and Gillian don't actually see eye to eye most of the time.

Personally I think fear of typecasting is the more probable answer.

I didn't even know about their on set tension till they hinted at it in a not so subtle way on Kimmel a week or so back. Even on the show you could tell things were a bit prickly between them. But hey at least it isn't Castle bad.

they're super close now. They've just had ups and downs throughout working together

have they explained it though? I saw the first episode but was very confused
Not yet. The first episode of this new season leads the audience to believe that the Alien Colonists were never involved at all. But they did that misleading story in Season 5 already. It does nothing either to explain the Alien Bounty Hunters, Black Oil Virus/Grey Aliens, Mulders abduction, The Syndicate, ect.

The season finale will hopefully explain it though.

As sloppy as the season premiere was, I have very little faith that the season finale will be any better. Could break things even more. I hope I'm wrong though.

I hope thats not the case either. If they countinue that route then the mythology would become even more unnecessarily convulted. Atleast with the first 9 seasons it was working towards something that made sense when you fit the pieces together.

My fear is this...

That they dumbed down the mythology to better cater to new viewers and as an excuse as to why the 2012 alien invasion didn't happen. I think they plan on wiping out the idea that aliens are involved completely and more or less just saying that they have alien technology they got from Roswell and that they intend to start a New World Order.

That seems to be the story they changed it to and I think that is super disappointing if that is indeed the case.

I hate both, I liked the original which was a thinner type face and creepier.

I didn't even realise that none of the new ones is correct. Here is all 3 (TV SD, TV HD, Bluray)

I didn't know about the issues between David and Gillian at all. Anyone care to elaborate or show a great source?

That's shitty to hear, to be honest. I knew about the Castle feud, but thought that Mulder and Scully were impervious to such things.

Nothing major. It's just when you're the only two leads in a long running show where you're in the majority of the scenes together, often times filming outside waiting for rain to let up at 3 in the morning, you get on each others nerves.

That makes sense. I hope that's all it was.

This is the Jimmy Kimmel interview where they (try to) talk about that.

From an interview
“The crucible of doing that show made monsters out of both of us. Once we got to step back, it was like, ‘Oh, wow, we really like each other. I didn’t know that was going to happen. The way we work together has changed,” David said. “Whatever rapport we have as actors, we earned. It’s nice to be able to play that without ever even feeling like you’re playing it.”

They really see to get along great nowadays, watching them on conventions and interviews is really fun. Especially Anderson seems like a fun person.

I guess being with someone 24x7 is really not a good way to develop the relationship. Absence makes the heart grow fonder it is. Still, I find it amazing that they managed to create such amazing chemistry from Season 1 to 9 despite of their personal feelings. Maybe hate is just a strongly distorted form of love? Uh, never mind.

Was the episode any good?

I already posted my thoughts, but I wouldn't go so far as to say good.

The episode commits some horrendous stereotyping, but then tries to act all progressive on the issue... which rubbed me very much the wrong way. It pairs the wrong agents together, undermining how fun it could have been to see Mulder and Scully partner with, essentially, younger versions of themselves.

But that 'gifable' sequence is amazing. Five minutes of brilliance that saved the episode from being as bad as the first episode for me. I wouldn't put it above episode 2 or 4, but it's really not far behind.

Just... that stereotyping. There was totally a way around it... but I don't want to get into that until more people have seen the episode.

What?! That's what I was looking forward to with this episode. :/

If it helps, I disagree with that part of their opinion. Without getting into details I thought the choice of pairings worked well. I do agree with pretty much everything else though.

It has the most fun parts outside of the comedy episode, but Chris Carter's ham-fisted and dull speeches bring it down in parts, especially at the end. And like plagiarize said, the stereotyping is off the charts all around in this one, with an occasional half hearted attempt to act like they're not.

New episodes of The X-Files and Better Call Saul tonight.

What a time to be alive.
My man.

Well... I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I'll say this about Einstein and Miller. While I think the pairings were a missed opportunity, I'd be happy to see them back at some point in the future. Both did very well overall.

So much for hoping the guy was an artist and was praying to ease his nerves for the opening of his art exhibit.

hey maybe that's still true and they were just there at the wrong time

lol

after all they did pray to something related about hoping to have no speech impediments

Questionable content aside, that opener makes me feel like The X-Files looks like every other show on television now. Like it completely lost its visual identity.

ah commericial break... can anyone recap the first 5 mins before the intro? i had to use the bathroom and don't use DVR... if not, i can prob re-catch it tomorrow online

So much happened, all of it ridiculous.

Scully and Mulder split off to investigate a case of Islamic terror proceeding angel trumpets blasting across the world with their younger selves.

Sort of felt like the switch from Vancouver to LA with that opening.

It definitely looks different. Also, is Scully holding her mom's necklace?
