And I bet there will be aliens, but long gone, just ancient aliens. So everything was based on old knowledge being found by the government.

Nice way to reboot the series IMO, because it leaves everything open again. Any weird phenomenon doesn't have to be overshadowed by the alien plot anymore.

Back in season 3 (or 4?) there was a story arc where Mulder ended up believing the UFO coverup was itself a coverup as a system of control to keep people like Mulder chasing dead ends instead of getting to the actual conspirators.
