That was...a very mixed episode. I get they had to rehash the whole ethos of the show for new ppl but it's a shame they had to waste so much time on retreading old ground. It had none of the pacing, atmosphere etc of the original either imo. And what's with all the jump cuts? Is all modern TV this bad about it?

Oh well the other episodes are supposed to be better. Looking forward to tomorrow.

I don't think people realize X Files was a very campy and naive show back in the day filled with ammo for conspiracy nuts. This fits right in with TODAYS conspiracy climate. Thought it was good, thought it was X-Files.

It wasn't as in the face regarding everything like tonights episode was tho.

Heh, looking less like Cancer Man and looking more like Supreme Leader Smoke.

Maybe it was the shadowing of his face?

I really enjoyed it!

I'll take a stale, or uneven, or downright bad first episode if things vastly improve. I mean I don't think it's that bad.

But people will bitch and moan anyway.

Yeah, you can tell they are getting back into the groove. It's been so long.

Also, I need to watch The Americans so I can get more of this "Nina"...

Yeah....not great.

Joel McHale did not sell in any way shape or form the 9-11 truther, and Mulder eating it all up, even with the ARV, was just....not great. It's one of the only ways they probably could have tie the series into a post 9-11 world, but....ugh.

Gillian tried more than Duchovny did, but that was a pretty bad start.

Hoping MotW episodes can pull through.

It wasn't as in the face regarding everything like tonights episode was tho.

It kind of maybe-sorta was, but it wasn't anywhere near as prevalent (or at least accessible) in the news/media/internet as it is in today's world.

Was a big x-files fan back when it aired. I think this stayed true to it for the most part. Some of it was a bit too fast paced otherwise it was good.

I need a screen cap [episode preview spoiler]

I added a FAQ to the op
  • Q: Which ones are mythology and wich ones are not?
A: Mytharc, MOTW, MOTW, MOTW, MOTW, Mytharc.
  • Q: Can I jump in without having seen the series before?
A: Yes, here is a summary (which the first episode begins with)
  • Q: Is there a summary of the series?
A: Many, check out this timeline
  • Q: If I want to see some episodes of old, which ones are the best?
A: Home, Clyde Bruckmans Final Repose, and X-Cops.
  • Q: Where are the reviews?
A: On Rotten Tomatoes. Currently: 51% with a 6.4/10 Average Rating.
  • Q: Why only six episodes.
A: David and Gillian had other stuff to do as well.
  • Q: What else should I check out?
A: Kumail Nanjianis podcast The X-Files Files. He togehter with guests (writer director Darin Morgan frequents it regularly) goes through the entire series, one episode at a time and it is great.

Probably more cause they had to come up with some kinda look to pretend to explain why we see him now when the last time we saw him it was graphically getting incinerated by a missile.

Well keep in mind they had 24 episodes to lay it out before and now they have 6. It's going to be a different pacing because it has to have a different pacing.

So, like, when the shadow council or whatever were talking to each other when Mulder wasn't around about the alien invasion and shit, was that just them being REALLY, REALLY dedicated to the ruse? What a weird, weird thing to do to your mythos.

X-Cops listed as a must watch/one of the best? You cray. (Some standouts for me, outside of Clyde Bruckman's and Home, are: Ice, Humbug, The Host)

Cancer Man's face (top left part) looked strange, like he was wearing some make-up or a prosthetic piece/mask.

Nostalgia aside, it wasn't that great. You could see some hints and nuggets of good stuff in there, but the weird couple bits (hey Scully's pissed because Mulder's shacked up with a girl and McHale is taking her on a date) felt tacked on/un-needed

I say it wasn't great, but man, I missed this show. The ending, Skinner/Mulder in the old office, Scully/Mulder first exchanges. There were some alright parts.

Let's see how it is with Chris off the reigns for tomorrow.

The pacing was all over the place. Felt like they needed three episodes for all the quick editing cuts and constant moving around. There was no sense of time passing whatsoever. Like they did everything in the episode over the course of a day.

But I want more. I'm looking forward to MOTW episodes and have always loved the government is evil, in on it, angle of the series.

Agreed. As someone who had every episode on VHS tape, I enjoyed it.

Well, this is six episodes and (AFAIK) it's supposed to be a "conclusion" or at least a better "conclusion" than the Season 9/series finale previously. A lot of fans (like me) were pissed the second movie didn't even mention the "2012 invasion" or show it or anything and was a MotW movie. So with these six episodes, they kinda have to throw everything in your face to tie it all together.

(That is if they are going to finalize/try to bring closure. Which I hope they are.)

My biggest problem was it was very unfocused.

Roswell! Alien technology! Human hybrids! Abductions! Conspiracy of men! Snowden!

They really took the shotgun approach for this ep.

Too bad they
killed Sveta
, I was looking forward to Mulder having to repeatedly convince Scully he was interested in
her for reasons other than her looks -'her name is Bambi?'

That was fantastic!!!!! When that theme song hit, the feels. Mulder and Scully still have perfect chemistry. I a, not sure of the direction they are going of everything with the old conspiracy was a lie, that will allow them to explain CSM though. No mention of the end of the world date though.

While we won't see another Mythos episode until episode 6. I have a feeling they'll be dropping tidbits of info during the MOTW.

That said I really won't how CSM survived?

Did they, Dr Acula, OR DOES IT ALL TIE TOGETHER?!?!? /offtomyconspiracymapboard

It made me really happy that they used the original opening. I enjoyed it and I'm excited to see these next five episodes. Did they say how many monster of the week episodes vs storyline episodes there will be?

Seeing as Jole's charactor disappeared and cancer man showed up at the end I'd say it's just another fake out like when they used Micheal Kritscow(sp?) in the season 5 finale to make mulder think it was all the gubment and aliens weren't real.
