Are you watching the gold zone stream I'm guessing? That's for short attention spans, it's a copy of nfl red zone with the same host and everything. It's awesome.
Different host but yea same idea. Andrew something - nowhere near the greatness of the great Scott Hansen.

But they have a million different streams including each individual event. Watch them on there.

I'm actually really liking Gold Zone. It's not a short attention span thing, it's just a lot more practical than cycling through multiple streams when you've got four or more events going on at the same time. And they do a pretty good job of knowing when to cut back and forth, sometimes they kind of fuck it up - especially in longer events like the biathlon or hockey - but usually you don't end up missing something important.

I thought Shani would snatch this and become the first to win 3 times. But he was too much personally competing with his friend Verweij.

They thought they would be first if they won the personal battle but in the end both their times sucked. I think they could have both done better if they had focused on their own time.

I secretly want us to beat at least one big country like Germany or the US in gold count but that's probably not happening.

What the hell is this? What's this foreigner doing on a mens speedskating podium?

We could actually be shooting ourselves in the foot though. The IOC doesn't like sports that are dominated by a certain country. The 5 and 10km don't really have any traction outside of The Netherlands and I wouldn't be surprised if those are the first to go.

They can't just do that based on just these Olympics. I think we'd have to dominate the event several times in a row for them to do that. Also, why don't they remove indoor cycling then? The British dominate those.

They were talking about getting rid of women's hockey since Canada and the US dominate. Some of these sports have even less parity then that and are less popular.

sounds like today though the IOC agreed to keep it

Yeah, more sports are dominated by certain countries. This year is just extreme. It's not like we sweep so much medals every Olympics.

Women's hockey is 170 extra athletes though.

I could maybe see them dropping the 10k and adding mass start. But I doubt it.

I think the new tournament format has helped. Even though there still isn't actual parity, at least we don't see Canada or the US beating up on teams 18-0

I don't really like the 5 and 10km tbh. Its really a solo affair.

The 1500m and lower are closer and much more competitive, I think its more fun to watch for neutral public as well.

Getting rid of Women's Hockey would dumb. It's a growing viable sport. Just look at the passion the Japanese Women have. They will be contenders in the coming years.

I love women's hockey.

Totally agree, but they can't just take away these events so we don't get medals. I actually find the 5 and 10k pretty interesting tactics wise, but it isn't a traditional race like the other categories.

TIME TO ENDLESSLY ANALYZE THE GOLD RIGHT NOS?

If they pair two strong skaters on the long distances it could be more interesting to watch. But usually it's just Sven skating solo to claim his gold :p

The team events must be a mixed bag for you Dutchies, since even though it's like a guaranteed gold, it means you're forced to 1 medal. :p

The problem is the Swiss are the number 4 team in the world and lost 14-0 to US and Canada. It's just not competitive but hopefully it improves. And this is after switching to a ridiculous format to ensure competiveness. At least Finland seemed to show up. They put on entertaining games.

The new format as ridiculous as it is does help though.

Such a truly awful showing by the US in these Olympics. Favorites choking everywhere and failing to even come close to medaling.

The US was on the brink of breaking records with Shaun White and Shani Davis. Such a thing is just very hard to achieve, even for the very best.

They can also just give Sven the gold and call it a day. No way he isn't going to win. There aren't many great 10km skaters and Sven rises far above the ones that do exist. Tactically he and Gerard are so good, that I understand why he didn't broke up after the Vancouver incident.

Luckily there's NOS online, German TV, BBC and Belgian TV. I hope that at least one of them will focus on hockey.

Man, men's double luge is getting messy. Almost everyone hitting the edge on the first uphill section.
