watching double sledge... Wow this seems like a very unrewarding sport for the guy on the bottom : he has to follow (not screw up) the pilot moves on the sledge, he doesn't see shit, get press by the pilot...

I just don't understand it... It seems so artificially inconvenient... Who would want to be a double sledge bottom guy ?

I don't really know the rules in this sort of situation. Is it because the puck was rolling before the whistle was blown that it's considered live and the goal is allowed?

I assume when the whistle blows everyone stops playing. No idea why that goal was allowed.

It kind of makes sense to me because the whistle was blown with the assumption the puck was in possession, but it clearly wasn't at the time.

But again I don't know the rules, so... yeah, lol.

It shouldn't have been a goal but then again, officiating in this game has been terrible.

Canada has been caught with 7 wo(men) on the ice at times and never been called!

More weight, more speed ?

But still seems overly inconvenient to me... At least in the two guy / four guy bobsleigh, there is a lot of synergy and more role to it for the last pusher... Or so it seems from outside. So its why I question myself. It just seems overly useless and the harsh role

By far the best olympic winter games for us - first gold in winter games in our history. Our whole team is just incredibly pumped this year, Prevc opened floodgates :D

Also here is recording from our national radio when Maze came on track :D

That was a damn close game. Canada's second goal was iffy from a technical point of view, but the puck was always in play so it should have counted anyway.

For whatever reason I have a feeling the Americans are going to win the gold medal, but GG both teams.

Another body check not called by Canada!

Hopefully the gold medal game will not be called like that. That is downright terrible.
I think you are the first person ever to complain about body contact being allowed in a Canada/USA women's hockey game.

It's more about bad officiating than body contact. I just hope the men's tournament will be officiated in the same way (i.e. very inconsistently).

Why is bodychecking not allowed in the women's game anyway? It seems pretty sexist.

I think it's to protect the weaker teams. Some of these women are just ill-equipped to handle getting slammed. I don't watch much women's hockey outside the Olympics, but I understand that the refs are decidedly less strict on enforcing the rule in Canada vs. USA matchups.

I fully expect the gold medal games for both men and women to be decided by terrible calls.

I just have to hope that the team I want to win is on the lucky side of things :p

Sorry for the dumb question, but megathread.

Is NBC just not showing medal ceremonies at all this year? It seems like all the coverage is tailored to the shortest attention spans in the world. Hand full of ski jumps, then two pairs of ice dancers, then some snowboarding, then another ice dancer, then maybe a little bit something else... it's been really frustrating to watch.

I really hate how they keep jumping between events when they're all complete as it is. Honestly it's a ploy to get people to stick around so they don't just tune into the one thing they want to watch and then turn it off.

The other day I wanted to see the short track 1500m because I missed the live coverage, so I was watching the semi-finals on NBC. Was ready to see the final immediately afterward, but they decided to show figure skating or some shit for an hour instead, before showing the final. I was livid. :X

Are you watching the gold zone stream I'm guessing? That's for short attention spans, it's a copy of nfl red zone with the same host and everything. It's awesome.

But they have a million different streams including each individual event. Watch them on there.
