Poland's medal count is hilarious this year, 4 gold and nothing else. FYI, up to Sochi we only won 2 golds. In the 90 years of participation we won half the medals we've got now. And one of them was through absurd luck.

Well, I kinda wanted Kasai to win but hell, Stoch first and Kasai second is beautiful so I've got nothing to complain about :)

I was in Poland 2 days ago and I liked the Olympic atmosphere .Also I think polish people did not expect such performance.

And a big game for the men coming up in a couple hours, against China. Will determine whether we make it into the 1-2 playoff or the 3-4 elimination playoff.
I thought it was just 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 semi-finals?

Canadian men on a nice roll after the 2 losses, but this is a big game. China has to be a big surprise. That nation has come a long way in a short time.

Those Canadian announcers are starting to get punch drunk. They've been working long hours every day covering curling.

They did from Stoch...i wouldn't like to be in his skin if he choked on this games, journalists and other media would crucify him

Huh, it's not a page playoff? I don't know, I was just assuming. (e: looks like you're right, the commentators said as much)

fake edit: oh lord a steal... the Chinese are playing incredibly, especially the skip

So according to Mike Harris, this game has very little implication for Canada. They're in the 2 vs. 3 game even if they lose.

Well it means a bit, they will get the hammer if they win, which certainly helps. But yeah I thought it was a page playoff, which would've been a completely different level of importance.

They must not have tiebreakers then. Potentially 3 teams with 3 losses each, but Canada gets the spot for beating them in round robin?

if they win they will play the winner of slovenia-austria in the quarters. if they lose, they play russia (assuming russia beats norway). i'd say that should be incentive enough.

They have tiebreakers. From what I understand is that if Canada loses and GB wins, they'll have to play a tiebreaker for 3rd/4th

Edit: Nevermind, Tie Breakers are only used if a semi-final position is at stake. Otherwise it's the winner of the round-robin game between the countries that places highest.

Well I never said that either.

All I'm saying is that the Olympics, when it comes to medal count, is incredibly tilted towards individual sports.

Not to pick on the Netherlands, but I find it stupid that they can be atop the medal standings thanks to just one sport.

No, I get what you try to say.

The same goes for the Summer Olympics, a nation can rack up a ridiculous amount of medals in Swimming which is way more ridiculous. While Hockey, B-ball etc is just one medal for weeks of playing.

But you could also say that there is an advantage for countries with a big ass population, they can take part in virtually every discipline.

Rewatching the men's curling game, end 7. Brad Jacobs didn't get the shot he called for, but the rock ended up in a great position by accident XD

Here comes the comeback!

I don't see a problem with it honestly. What the Dutch are doing in speed skating is ridiculous right now, all of it is well deserved. Look at the Summer Olympics. China gets like 1/4th it's medals from badminton/table tennis alone which they usually sweep.

It's just the way the Olympics are. Germany right now has utterly destroyed everyone in Luge. If anything, this should be a wakeup call for all speed skating programs. Especially South Korea, Canada, the US. Things need to change for 2018.

All the talk about medal counts favouring individual sports, or sports where individuals can win medals in different events is ultimately pointless. Even though the Olympics are used as a global pissing contest, that's not how they were conceived. That's just how it is.

Man, watching these women on the snowboard cross is like an experiment in ragdoll physics. 2/4 down already :/
(I'm aware it's already aired once)
