This Russian team isn't as dominant as the US team ever was, and I don't even know shit about Hockey. The US basketball team is always about 10 times as good as every other team.

the US mens team wasnt dominant at all in 2004, they did poorly in pre-Olympic games.. They were a collection of big names, even bigger egos, shitty coaching and no cohesion, that's what I was getting at with my comparison.

Sweden-Finland: With the current lineup that Sweden has, and with so many important players gone due to injury, its going to be very hard to win against them.
Lack of proper development, coaching wasn't very good, lackluster effort by the better known players. Guys like Ovechkin really shit the bed. They just didn't play well as a team.
Don't I know that feeling...the Capitals are my home team. *sigh*
Russians should sack Bilyaletdinov after last WC debacle, but they were stubborn and kept him on the bench. He is unable to tame so many egos at once. And I think that Russians need to rethink their approach when gathering national team - too many stars on pile can spell disaster and they proved it once more.

Now comes your most important test, going up against your fellow Nordic countrymen and the people who took gold from you in Torino 2006, the Swedes. Going to be an intense match up for sure. Sweden has a battered team right now that had trouble with the Latvians, maybe Finland can keep this momentum from the win against Russia going.
Yeah I definitely agree that beating Sweden would be the high point of this event for me personally. That said I'm happy to see our sportsmen bringing medals home in other events too.
