So I know everyone is going crazy about men's hockey, but I think Mikaela Shiffrin has a good chance to get the US another gold in Slalom. Will be interesting to see if she can hold off Maze

Maze sucks this year at slalom, she gained too much muscle mass during summer, so she can be fast as hell in downhill and super-G, but not so much in slalom - just check how badly supercomination slalom ended for her.

What fucking bullshit in regards to women's figure skating. Fuck those judges, should've seen this bullshit coming a mile away.

I'm not into the sport much, but it seems like there's a pretty clear vendetta against Wagner. Consistently great performance, consistently low scores.
I think she already knew that;
http://nesn.com/2014/02/ashley-wagner-skating-insiders-question-russian-figure-skating-scores/

While the russian skater fell, they didn't get as low score as Asada did.

Well, nothing's going to change that....up to media to make fuss about changing how judging works.

edit:

I just saw this thing passed around twitter lol

I know I did. I was even joking to my gf that if you fall or fuck up as a Russian you automatically score higher. Guess I was not far off.

Hah, Johnny Weir discussing his bathroom experiences in Sochi with Costas.

Weir "I can pee standing up"

Costas "Congratulations"

What events did the Germans medal in?

Luge?

4 gold, 1 bronze in luge
2 gold ski jump
1 gold, silver, bronze in alpine
1 gold, silver, bronze in nordic combined
1 silver in biathlon
1 bronze in figure skating

All the score breakdowns are here: -

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...omens-figure-skating-jumps.html?smid=fb-share

Mouse over and you can see the scoring at each stage

Also interesting article explaining the scoring system and how it works: -

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Olym...ging-How-did-Adelina-Sotnikova-beat-Kim-Yu-na

Some viewers might point out that Sotnikova stepped out on the landing of her triple flip-triple toe-triple loop combination and argue that Kim made no obvious mistakes at all. But that's 6.0 thinking. The 6.0 system was much more impressionistic, which is why the International Skating Union was forced to get rid of it. There was too much scope for judges to do what they wanted.

Also the scoring system eliminates the highest and lowest scores out of the 9 judges before the average is calculated.

The French girl is super salty with the contact by the Russian in ski cross.

I think canada may have a chance at a medal maybe? 3 girls going into the quarters at least.

3 positive doping samples today, one rumored to be from a german biathlete and Sachenbacher-Stehle is not on todays relay team....

Aiii

So not worth it
So awesome, dude is from my hometown.

His counterargument to the economy point that was raised was brilliant. Though to be fair, I would've shot back "so basically what you're saying is we are dirt poor and still handed your ass to you in this sport"

But his was great too. :D

Of course it's all in good fun, the guys seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Gold and silver, great friday morning!

"Judging scandal" yesterday and positive doping test today. The circle is complete. Hopefully for Germany, it wasn't a medallist.

Canada gets gold and silver in ski cross!
That was great! Thompson was the best all day. Serwa barely makes the final but they both cruise through 1 and 2 fairly easily. Great event.

Ski cross is quite a bit different from board cross. Skiers are in much better control so it's a much more technical race. Boarders are just roller derby so it's chaos theory. A lot more luck involved with board cross.

Yay Sweden! :D

Lol, 80% of the guys at work (40 people or so) went home now during lunch. Why? Sweden-Finland of course! :p
I was planning on following the match on the radio, but I went home as well. ;)

Hog line violations are rookie mistakes.
Sweden is a strong curling nation so bronze shouldn't be a surprise. That's still a nice tournament for the Chinese curlers since they weren't expected to make the playoffs. Curling truly global now.

Went through all that trouble and didn't even walk away with a medal, that must've sucked.

She was at the 48th place in qualifications for the World Cup 2013. In Sprint she made quite a jump towards the 6th place. One day later she won.

Where did Canada figure they'd beat Vancouver in gold and medal count?

These are the only ones I can think of that could have been gold:

- Patrick Chan
- Virtue & Moir
- Hamelin (x2?)

That's maybe 4 gold missed out on so far.

Yeah that ain't happening now. Disappointing short track and maybe aerials/snowboarding perhaps?

Gold totals were going to be tough to match. Improving on medal totals from Vancouver was a possibility. Some predicted 30+, but that was best case scenario. Not going to happen now.

Today could be Canada's biggest medal total day. Already 2 medals, another guaranteed in curling, and decent possibilities in short track events. TSN said the previous best was 4 total medals in one day, both summer and winter games.

Beating the total of gold medals was never going to happen and the COC knew it, but still had to create hype. The total of 26 medals was easily beatable though.
