The tram sits on a motion base for that particular segment.

yeah it's the way that Kong 360 3D works too. The tram shakes and moves in response with the screens and the screens have two different scenes going on at the same time.

Ahhhhh, ok. I haven't been to USH in years... last time I was there, there was no King Kong 360, so I have no idea about these upgrades...

Next time I am out in LA, probably June 2016, maybe I'll hit up and see whats changed...

Well Kong 360 3D was more of a replacement than an upgrade. That fire that the Universal backlot suffered a while ago burned up a few things, the King Kong part of the tram included. They built the Kong 360 3D in its place.

When I was in Orlando I realized that few of the rides were extended versions of the studio tour stops (Jaws, King Kong
which was gone by that time but it still counts
, Earthquake, etc.)

To anyone who has been on both Revenge of the Mummy rollercoasters, which one do you prefer? The Hollywood one has more actual rollercoaster and the Orlando one is more cinematic with more stops in my opinion. Honestly I think I'd go with the Orlando one purely for the stuff leading up to the launch.

That looks fascinating, but it will obviously be a maintenance nightmare. Similar rides tear through maintenance budgets. There's a reason why the simpler model of these are barely found at parks today.

Any of you ever work at a park before?

I worked at Epcot for 5 months.

Is there a best time to go to six flags Great Adventure? I really don't want to pay for the overpriced express pass but want to ride as much as I can.

Also does single rider lines exist there?

It is pretty awesome how fast Universal gets their rides up but I didn't realize Fast and Furious was just another part of the studio tour. I watched a video of it and it seems to be better than the Kong thing but I'm not sure how some short 3D movies get passed off as rides these days.

The tour is basically a collection of short rides. Like I said before, a good portion of the rides in Orlando were just larger scale versions of the tour stops. The commercials do their jobs of creating hype judging by the immediate crowd swell brought on by Supercharged.

During the summer, most days are going to be busy... I'd go on a Wednesday.

As for Single rider, they do, I think, but check their site for confirmation.

Worth mentioning that the Magic Of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios is closing in 2 weeks, and DisneyQuest will finally shut its doors in 2016 to make way for the NBA Experience.

My heart is broken : (

Where did all of you work? I worked across three different parks, but I won't reveal where.

Here's some interesting tidbits from places I've been:
-Maintenance men are the unsung heroes of this industry. A ride op or any other worker in an amusement park owes their job to these men.

-Vekoma's coasters, primarily their prototypes, are awful maintenance nightmares. Anyone have fun stories of working on a Flying Dutchman/Flying coaster?

-Guests think the amount of money they spend in a park determines their overall privilege in a park. I only really ever encounter this at Six Flags parks instead of the Cedar Fair chain.

-Why do people choose to visit Disney during the holidays?! I can't imagine how a 315+ minute wait for Toy Story Midway Mania is worth it.

-Merchandise is everything to Disney.

Just looking at Firehawk at KI makes it look like a maintenance nightmare. So many moving parts, it doesn't look streamlined at all, and it's not getting any younger. Luckily it maintains decent popularity.

DisneyQuest is such a weird 2000s time capsule. I'm not shocked it's closing but it's still a bummer. Imagine if it had been successful and they kept iterating on it!

Yea and I do give them credit for doing what they can with a small footprint soundstage but honestly nothing they've put up save Harry Potter is remotely impressive next to Cars Land. They are in this weird middle ground between Disney and Six Flags where they aren't able to do either thing very well.

And yet they can't be bothered to have any Kingdom Hearts merchandise in their parks.

I actually saw some at Disneyland this past May. I think Hollywood Studios used to have some in what was a hastily themed villains store that mainly had Jack Skullington stuff in it? It was located down Sunset Boulevard headed towards RnRC and ToT.

So Disneyworld gets Kingdom Hearts stuff but DisneyLAND gets nothing?!

I wonder what Cedar Point is doing.

They have this big empty field with a fence in front of it. On the fence, they've been adding these signs about once a week featuring a timeline of all the different coasters still in operation at the park.

They've been adding them two at a time. This is the most recent:

Hmmm.

They need a solid wooden coaster. A dive coaster just adds more loops to a park oversaturated with inverted coasters. Too bad they won't be doing business with The Gravity Group or Great Coasters International (GCI).

I'd really like for Cedar Point to add a good wooden coaster.

Rode The Beast in the front at night as one of the last rides (think we were second to last) at Kings Island. That shit never gets old. so good. Makes the tension going into the helix that much more insane

I think what makes the beast special is its location, even in the day you cant see whats coming next. The beast was the first "big" coaster I ever went on with my dad and holds a special place in my heart. Easily my favorite coaster of all time.

I will always treasure my memories of their hilariously shitty VR attraction.

It was a cute place, I liked the interactive pirate ship game, but the best was playing Mario Kart against a stranger. The next day we found that same guy we played Mario Kart with at Tower of Terror, he was a Cast member and a Manager!

He let us ride 3 times in a row and hooked us up with free pictures of us on the ride. Was totaly awesome.

Figured this would probably be the best place to ask, but has anyone got any recommendations for some good 'behind the scenes' or 'making of' documentaries or videos on stuff like Disney or Universal parks and attractions? I'm always so fascinated by the development process of this stuff (especially for those two companies) but I'm having trouble finding much content :(

Ah awesome, thank you! There are a few there I haven't seen yet :D That's my commute sorted for the rest of the week!

I'm getting myself hyped up for a trip to Orlando in September. Haven't seen Diagon Alley yet so very excited about that!

Absolutely, mine too. It's a great ride to go on an "adventure" on. Banshee takes you for thrills but The Beast feels like a story on tracks.

May already be aware, but Martin Smith's videos are amazing:

He just released a 20k video and it is the clearest ride through of it I've seen.

Just finished the 20000 Leagues video and wow, that was one hell of an attraction. Understandable that they shut it down as it must have been costing them a fortune to operate and maintain.

Also made me realise that the lagoon where the attraction was, with the fountain would have been there when I first visited (not that I remember noticing it as I would have only been 8!). Would have loved to been able to ride it :p

Did anyone here ever ride it?

My first trip was in '91 and I rode it then. Didn't get back until after the closure when it was a meet and greet and back then with no internet I had no warning and 10-year old me was crushed. Kept going back once a year hoping each time it would reopen but nope :(

Rode the Nemo subs in DL a couple years back and while it fun to do that sort of thing again it just isn't the same.

I don't remember being very impressed by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at WDW as a little kid, but maybe my view of what was going on was bad. Seemed like we were cruising at the bottom of a lake and then went into a dark area. Lots of bubbles.

The Living Seas was much more impressive. Granted that was fairly new at the time.

Thanks! Only seen a couple of these ones before so the others we're greatly appreciated :D

Love the Toon Lagoon one, can't believe how much water it drains from the lagoon when Popeyes starts up! :p

No problem. I still watch the Spider-Man video occasionally. It's my favorite ride, and I can't get enough of it.
