There's a petition for asking Microsoft To Bring Back Xbox One's DRM

It was clear from the get-go that the family sharing plan wasn't going to work as people initially thought it was. No company would be happy if their customers can share their products with 10 other people without a limit of any kind.

The DRM is more than just the family plan. It is the ability to use physicall games like they are digital. Instant gameswitching which in turn allowed for the seamless integration with the new smart matchmaking. All with the benefits of the competitive prices that we are used to from competing stores.

And nobody is stopping MS from still implementing that feature for digital purchases. Well, except MS that is.

I signed it, won't do anything but I agree with them.

People are insane to think this is not where everything is headed and it was smart for Microsoft to embrace it now and incorporating benefits to ease the transition. Now there is a good chance this policy will be forced later in the generation (One and PS4) and it will not be as easy to implement the previous benefits or won't be needed. Also, it was an interesting case study and a good parallel to my main gaming system which will be PS4.

There isn't anything stopping MS from offering this feature to those who don't care about always online. Well, except MS that is.

My response still applies for physical.
Features such as instant gameswitching and smart matchmaking are still available. They are usefull for digital games, but they're almost rendered useless for physical games.

What use does instant gameswitching have when I need to swap discs? It isn't instant anymore, it just became normal switching between games.

What use does the smart matchmaking have when I need to swap discs? I can't join the perfect match on time, because I need to swap my discs before hand. Resulting in that I either can't join the match or that I start off with a disadvantage.

lol what a petition. I almost want to sign just to tighten the noose.

Surprised you aren't banned for your Ratchet and Clank teaser nonsense.

You can buy digital games if you want those features though.

It's about having options, MS was trying to take options away.

And for folks like yourself there isn't ANYTHING stopping MS from offering the ability to do this for physical games. Allow folks like yourself the option to activate always online when you're using these features. Instead of doing this they took their ball amd went home.

I'm aware that I can still use those features when I buy the games digital. Digital has a two major cons for me.

1. Digital is almost always more expensive than the physical counter part.
2. I simply love game boxes.

Microsoft gave me the option to buy physical with all the advantages that digital games have. Now they've removed that option. As there is no in between.

Ofcourse they took their ball home. You can't only have the pros without the cons. It simply doesn't work like that. As much I'd like to see an option it isn't possible.

For example:
What If I buy a game and enable the DRM feature. Meaning that the disc just became useless. And resell that game the next day, to either a shop or directly to person. The new owner won't be able to use that game as the disc is linked to my account.

That's on MS to figure out. They're investing billions into this and if this was going to be so revolutionary than they should figure out a system to let folks have the option. In fact, it would be beneficial for them to do so. If their features work out as well as they say then the more people that are exposed to the benefits the better. With a system like XBL in place, it would catch on and spread to others, thereby organically spreading instead of being forced upon their customers.

They also removed the traditional benefits of buying physical though, which many people prefered.

Now if you want digital benefits, you can buy a digital copy.

Microsoft could still offer those benefits to physical games in an opt in system, but they chose not to.

I have a feeling his petition was formed by Microsoft shills. Who in their right minds would honestly love getting the shaft? This type of crap is what I was worried about when Microsoft entered the home console market. They haven't won a single generation they have been involved in yet they are trying to revolutionize gaming to suit their money grubbing agenda. If you liked the Xbox One in its original form I question the validity of any of your opinions.

See, and I think it was started by a Sony fan.

They could easily lower the prices now and recoup the cost by selling more. They don't need to because games like CoD and The Last of Us and Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite sell extremely well out of the game with $60 price tags.
Hope you realize, this makes zero sense. If it was such a sure bet that they would make more money by lowering the cost... they would lower the cost.

Neither of those argue that every used game sale is a lost new purchase. Try again.
