“Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards is in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Television to become permanent host of the venerable quiz show, taking the reins of the syndicated powerhouse that was fronted by Alex Trebek for 36 years.

“A Sony Pictures spokesman said discussions were ongoing with several potential candidates. He would not comment specifically on Richards’ status. A source close to the situation cautioned that there’s no certainty that the sides will close a deal and that other candidates remain in the mix, although Richards is clearly the front-runner.”

Unpopular opinion: The host of Jeopardy doesn't matter. It's a low budget trivia show. The trivia is why people watch.

It's a primetime low budget trivia show. Without Alex Trebek the show would have at best been moved to some afternoon slot or a cable channel long ago.

Looks like this guy may not make it through the vetting of the public socials. But Levar would be a better choice.

I still hope Lavar gets it. Having him will actually bring ratings, unlike this producer dick who no one has heard of or cares about.

Where would Wheel of Fortune be without Pat Sajak, the true talent of low budget game shows? Now that guy puts Jamie Fox to shame.

In reality neither host has a lick of talent (on display at least). They're milktoast non offensive personalities who aren't even close to being the main draw of their respective shows. America only grew to love Trebek because we've become celebrity obsessed and he's been on in the background while we eat dinner for 30 years.

Note: Maybe you're right and well soon see Jeopardy move to an afternoon slot or some cable channel now that a new host has taken the reins.

I hope Levar is their 2nd choice if it doesn't pan out with this dude (and it may not judging by the public's reaction).

What was wrong with lamar? Howd he perform?
Probably nothing, but the executive producer investigated himself and declared himself the best candidate for the role.

When you’ve been in charge for that long you know everyone. Makes decision making easy to influence.

Watched both Levar was Ok but seemed a bit clunky reading the questions. On camera he is a better presence but the other dude was much smoother overall

LeVar was easily the worst guest host they had the entire run. He ruined the flow of the show terribly. Long pauses before confirming right or wrong, stumbling over words, etc. I get everyone's love for the guy, he's a great dude and his charity pick was awesome but lets be real. He did NOT do a good job as a guest host and anyone saying he did either doesn't watch much or is just deluding themselves.

Mike Richards was actually pretty good as a guest host but I'm still a bit miffed that they do this whole thing and then it's just the executive producer?? Seems odd. I was looking forward to Ken but my personal preference was actually Buzzy Cohen. I also liked Savannah Guthrie, she surprised me how personable and down to earth she came off as, but at the same time I always loved Alex's random bits of awkwardness. I'll keep watching no matter who the guest host is because my wife and I love the show for the trivia first and foremost but we are all better off that it isn't going to be LeVar.
