Holy crap it is an art form. I bet the human soul is a loss edit.

I guess I'm not a fan of any of the 'crazy feminist' type of meme stuff. People can be nutters sure but I swear too many use those nutters as an excuse to be douches.

EDIT: and now I see the 'not delivered' in ray's post fuck me

Harambe, it was an awful thing that happened and it just became dicks out meme.

The Harambe meme is basically a criticism of the outrage cycle our 24 hour news creates. Take as a recent example the Rio Olympics. Before the event, the media was flooded with outrage and fearmongering over Zika virus outbreaks, buildings falling apart and violent crime sprees. What actually happened at the Olympics? Some green water and a few robberies. The outrage that Harambe's death created was like so many other outrages where you bitch about it and forget about it the next day. The Harambe meme is basically "what would happen if we kept that level of outrage going?" Its simultaneously a criticism of the news cycle that propagates these surface level outrages as well as mocking those who fall prey to it.

In other words, the Harambe meme is social criticism and one of the few memes that can now be categorically defined as art.

I seriously doubt that all the people saying "dicks out for Harambe" actually put that much thought into it. My guess is that the majority of the people bringing up Harambe are just trying to be funny. So is it really art if the majority of people don't get the greater meaning?

Of course. Was Starry Night not art at the time of its creation because no one was around to appreciate van Gogh?

"Git gud" in regards to soulsborne games, because idiots who jerk off to those games use it to ignore legit criticism.

In fact, the difficulty of souls games in general, the fact many kickstarters put "souls inspired" in their descriptions just makes me go "these assholes are going to make the game absurdly unfair because they don't understand why Souls difficulty works".

Also caveman spongebob, SB is a treasure trove of funny stuff and is super meme-able, but caveman spongebob meme was NEVER funny.

Pretty much this. The crazy feminist and "TRIGGERED" memes are just kinda... I dunno, insensitive? I guess it's one of those things that a small group will laugh at and churn out in a way to be insulting, but then it gets picked up by the mainstream without the context of why they were created and then proliferated.

Also the Harambe meme. Fuck that shit. It's the dumbest thing and it still makes no sense.

Loss is dope though.

The second coming of the Harambe meme was the worst. It was funny back in May/June when it happened because it was a sort of niche meme among the weird Twitter community. Its resurgence near the end of the summer was lame to say the least.

For you.
Trump's speech patterns.

Why would anyone want to remind people of him, or emulate anything about him?
He has the best words. The best words, let me tell ya. Tremendous. China is stealing all our words, we have to get better at words.

Git gud feels like PC master race - something that lost its original context a long time ago and is now used in a completely different way. Git gud used to be a giant joke with the souls community.

But there are times where some of the criticism feels like it warrants a "git gud", like people who think the games are too hard but are clearly playing the game incorrectly.

Loss edits are profoundly tasteless and borderline offensive yet the creativity with which it's represented goes beyond all other culture.

Legit curious how you find them tasteless and offensive. Unless it's just an extension of the "loss" source material, which was pretty tasteless.

At this point it became the meme version of what it was originally criticizing. (Another example would be ken bone)

Paint doesn't know whether it's part of a classical masterpiece in the Louvre or a child's art class work on the refrigerator. It's just paint, and it does its job without motivation or self-awareness.

If you think the joke is about miscarriages, you don't understand loss.

Loss is a mockery of Buckley's shortcomings as a story teller, his ego blinding him from realizing why it was a bad idea and then doubling down on it.

He hamfistedly tried to add unnecessary drama to his shitty two gamers in a couch gag-a-day comic and people have ridiculed him for it for years.

Loss its not a joke about dead babies, it's a monument to Buckley's lack of self awareness.

So I was listening to The Sound of Silence and I realized the song is actually flames but that most people will never know because the intro has basically become a meme now

I'm pretty sure there's other shit people think shouldn't have become a meme.

What are some other things that you wish didn't become a meme GAF?

I didn't even realize that song had become a meme. I haven't seen it anywhere. Great song and lyrics though.

"All The Things"

Hyperbole and a Half is legitimately great and it's always bothered me that people only know that meme and not the origin of it.

EDIT:

Loss is fine. Loss is everywhere. Loss is the golden spiral of the internet.

EDIT2:

Oh, yeah, PC Master Race needs to go. It's bullshit elitism with a questionable name on top of it; that kind of thing just makes gaming communities worse for everyone.

Before I even knew Harambe was a meme, I had been making jokes about how people only cared for a week and then forgot about him. Then I found out that it was a meme and I thought it was pretty funny that other people felt the same way. Then it just kept going and now I'm kinda sick of it and wish he would have just stayed forgotten. But I guess the original intent of the meme has worked.

Facebook friends are still sending Harambe memes to me. Now I want to forget about it, but I can't. I only have myself to blame.
