Thinking of buying a Series X and FM8

I'll keep it short as someone with over 5K hours in GT7 and also someone that's also tired of the outdated carlist in GT7 and looking at FM8 carlist and its more up to date its nice BUT....

Before I even think about dropping 600 bucks.

How does FM8 compare to GT7 in the driving Physics?
How do the Graphics compare to GT7?
How do the features like the Livery editor and photo mode compare to GT7?

Even I cant recommend getting any Xbox hardware at this point. I asume PC is not an option as you could play it there. I would at least wait a few months for the Xbox gameshow as im sure there is going to be more infomation on there future plans and in that time we might hear of it coming to PS5 aswell. Another reason to wait is the game didnt release to the standard FM fans expect, its getting better but the longer you can wait the better the game will be when you jump in .

Pretty good, about the best thing about the game, on pad, never tried the wheel

How do the Graphics compare to GT7?

Worse.

How do the features like the Livery editor and photo mode compare to GT7?

Terrible.

I like Forza 8 more than FH5 but its my first FM. I wouldn't say to get a system this late for just 1 game.

Physics are similar with FM being good in some things and worst in others, honestly looking only for physics both games are weak compared to other games, you should wait for AC Evo for ps5, wait for Iracing for PS5...........or just go for Iracing or AC Evo on PC right now.

Graphics Gt7 is still better.

Livery editor is similar, both of them are good enough to make fantasy and real livery etc....but honestly don't buy a console just for one game a Series x ...you will burn money just to play a game that is not even the best on the series ( although I still think the potential is there).....

Amazing driving experience and amazing driving physics, graphics are getting better with every new patch and i doubt is going to come to PS5, not the same scenario as Horizon.

I wouldn't bother if you only want FM8. It wasn't very good for a variety of reasons. The ones before it were so much better.

Better off using the Series X to play the older Forza games. They're great, and imo about on the same level as GT. If you like one, you'd like the other. Probably better off throwing an extra couple hundred at it and buying a prebuilt PC. You'd get access to a lot more games you can't already get (or soon get) on PS5.

The driving is decent, but I think GT7 is quite better. Everything else unfortunately kinda sucks, maybe other than the car list. I have 120 hours in the game, but I wouldn't have bought a whole console for it.

The driving experience in FM8 is fine but it feels very different from the good old days of FM4 in terms of game structure. FM8 feels like the GT Sport of the series. Focused more on multiplayer and professional circuit racing with full race weekends. Not a fan.

It'll come to PS5 eventually, the only reason it wouldn't is if they abandon it.

FM8 is the worst Forza Motorsport by far. I really really wanted to like it, even made a dumbass move and purchased my copy. First month was a complete mess with constant progression bugs. Gave up after a few months of playing, the devs are just doing their thing and injecting more fomo without listening to the fanbase. Plus they went silent on their promises to expand the singleplayer career with past featured (time limited) events.

Buying an X360 and playing FM3-4 is still the best way to have fun.

They're both console sims that don't hold a candle to some PC games. That said, it might benefit you to wait a little and see if MS ports FM to PS5. But if GT7 is your main game and you don't want to wait, there's nothing wrong with getting the Xbox to play FM.

Driving/physics is a wash. Some aspects of GT are better, some are better in Forza. Collisions and sense of speed for example, much better in Forza. AI, more customizable and better in Forza.

Graphics, also a wash. GT7 has some better models and better interior view, Forza has better lighting and weather.

Can't speak to livery, I don't use it or photo mode at all.

They're both good console sim racers.

Great time to jump on into the thriving and blossoming Xbox ecosystem.

Enjoy investing into the wonderful world of Xbox consoles that will be around for weeks or months to come!

I can't believe even adamsapple adamsapple is making more sense than you. Lol.

To be fair, FM8 has a great balance between arcade and simulation. The driving experience is just fun. I don't like GT7 personally because it wants to be too much of a simulator, but the driving experience is nowhere near as good.

On the other hand, apart from the driving physics, pretty much everything else in FM8 is a bit of a shame. The bottom line is that it came out as an alpha, is now in the beta stage and will probably be scrapped before it becomes a really good, well-rounded game.

In GT7 you need farm hell of credits thanks to MTX focus and in FM8 you farm car levels until you drop. GT7 is the better overall package. I don't "really" like either of them, neither game is player-focused.

Bottom line ... yes, just wait until FM8 comes out for PS5 and then try it out. I wouldn't be surprised if a special (MS) gamepass is also available on PS5 this time next year.

Forza Motorsport (2023/FM8) is by far the worst of the entire series. I couldn't really find anything at all redeeming about the game during the 10 or so hours I spent with it.
  • Underwhelming graphics and performance.
  • Some of the most soulless menus in racing games.
  • Middle of the road physics to the point I don't even remember anything positive or negative to say about it.
  • Mediocre car choices (this is up to taste though. I have a very JDM centric taste in cars, so Forza has never really been a hit out of the park in general).
  • Progression is absolutely terrible, and whoever thought of their system for progression and car modification needs to be fired. How this made it past testing when it was basically universally panned upon release is beyond me.
  • Their "from the ground up" comments are some of the biggest pieces of bullshit in gaming marketing I've ever seen.
It was even worse when you have the Horizon team consistently putting our banger after banger, and Turn10 hasn't really put out a good Motorsport games since Xbox 360.

At this point just wait a few months, it's probably gonna come to PS5.
Forza Motorsport is one of the games that I can see them not bothering. It's been out for a year and a half, and the reception hasn't really gotten all that much better. I feel like it would be better to just let it die quietly until you release a new one "from the ground up". The game was a flop, and there really is no reason to buy it on PlayStation when you have a much superior option being Gran Turismo 7 despite 7 being a middle of the road GT game personally.

I had just got around to forgetting that I spent 100 bucks on Steam at release for this pos but now I remember…
I annoyingly spent the like Game Pass upgrade thing that was like $35 or so. I'm just glad I didn't actually buy it.

It's definitely the best playing console sim with a pad, not even close TBH. So controllable when driving over the limit of grip. Now if they could get their racing wheel game up to the same level that would be good.

This about sums up my thoughts as well, except I disagree with the ending bit there.

I think FM7 was a solid game and, if it were still available for purchase, I'd recommend that over FM8. Really hate that car licensing shenanigans make older games in the series disappear after a while.

That's fair. FM7 wasn't bad I guess but it still wasn't really as good as the older ones at least for me.

I agree on the licensing shit 1000%. There are so many good racing games out there that will never see a modern port due to this.

The fact that every Forza Horizon being delisted outside of 5 is a travesty.

Im not even kind of joking when I say I'd recommened you grab an Xbox 360 and a copy of Motorspot 4 before getting Motorsport 8. It's not just the worst Forza game yet, it's just a bad racing game period. Easy to recommend to save your money and even when it comes to PS5 wait for a free play weekend to try before you buy. Don't say you weren't warned.

FM8 isn't worth it. I have it. Its a shallow game that probably bores you after a handful of championships. I think I finished about 4 championships before I shelved it.

All you have are some championships with about 5 races each, and most of them are with road cars. And there is Free play, and online. Having to grind out cars by using them in boring races over and over just to enable some upgrades is terrible. I do like the actual gameplay, sound and sense of speed. But the game doesn't feel rewarding at all.

I am not entirely sold on GT7 either, but it played it FAR more at least. There is more to do. But GT7 is rather mediocre single player as well. Its pretty much GT Sport with more cars and the Cafe mode (which I didn't like at all).

Thanks for all the replies everyone I'm gonna wait till FH5 releases first already have that pre order.

And yes sadly a decent gaming PC is out of my range as my range is less then 700$.

I mean its easy to have a bigger car list when you dont even put half the effort in the car models, especially in interiors.

As someone that play's over 3.5K hours per year I think I enjoy what I have I'm just looking for a second option not sure what's wrong with that.:)

My Options

PC - is to expensive for me right now.

Nintendo - I have no interest in there games.

Xbox - FM8

buying an Xbox Series X in 2025 is near indefensible, but buying it for Forza? LOL

Better off just putting that money in a PC fund and saving up.

Don't. You'd be throwing $600 into a dead platform to play 1 game that's not even close to the best in its own series. That's like going to a dealership and buying a Ford Fusion because you like the stitching on the seats when there's a Honda dealership across the street selling Civic hybrids.
