This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I know this is a pretty odd comparison, but I need a cheap, new game for my vita.

Rayman Origins or AC3: Liberation?

Never played a rayman and the last AC I played was II (i thought it got boring and repetitive after the first couple hours, even with beautiful graphics and a good story)

For those who have played both, which one should I purchase?

I haven't played both but have played Origins on console and that was a blast. I'd say go for that one just because it was a great great game on console.

I don't think the Vita version is any different.

Origins is good. Some of the later levels don't mesh well with the controls, but it's a great, unique experience. I would recommend just subscribing to PS+. Origins will be free later in September.

Yeah I got a free year of PS+ with my vita so I will just hold out for dat free.

AC3 it is. Lets give this another go.

Dammit, I didn't realize we've got a gaming thread for this. Cross-Post incoming:

A coworker gifted me an old-ish 32" Sony KDL-S32A12U Bravia TV from 2005-ish, which is incredibly nice and a great upgrade to my old retro CRT. It's HD ready and has a HDMI port, but obviously doesn't support 1080p, just 1080i and 720p.

Now, if I get myself a nice PS4, what would you say GAF: HD ready Bravia and comfy couch or 22" PC monitor with full HD, but comfy chair (or couch and eye strain)?

Go with a monitor, honestly.

Question for gaming GAF: are there any REALLY nice gaming monitors with built in TV tuners that aren't too expensive? Don't wanna buy a TV since finding a decent gaming one is hard. 1080p+ and a good refresh rate is preferred.

Probably cheaper just to get a good monitor and a separate TV tuner.

Probably true. I already have a TV Tuner but the program it comes with is shit. Is there, like, a program that works well with all tuners?

Also, to revise my original question, could someone suggests really nice but inexpensive monitors?

What is the best lossless codec to record gameplay? (I'm using MSI Afterburn as recording software)

Also, do you like Batman cape color in Arkham City or Arkham Origins?

I'm playing through MGS3 right now, and I can't figure out why everyone loved
The END
boss battle so much. When I faced him, all i did was
out-snipe him, then follow him to his next hiding spot by following his footsteps.
The battle ended up taking me less than 10 minutes to beat, yet people on message boards said it could potentially take hours. lolwut?

He can die of old age, if a certain amount of time (like a week) passes on your PS2's clock.

Is it technically illegal to sell a 360 or PS3 system with the digital downloaded titles you purchased ?

I never really read the fine print in their user agreements so have no idea.

It's definitely not illegal although it probably violates the Terms of Service. You're usually not allowed to transfer licenses which means that technically the account could be disabled by Microsoft or Sony.

Do all PS3 games install or just some? I'd like to get GTAV, Batman and South Park and multiplat games next year on PS3 but only if I'm guaranteed a full install option.

a question that haunts me since 1997!
Why was the playstation called psx? Everything else that time made sense such as Nintendo 64 being the N64, Gamecube being GC and so on.
Help me GAF

Most install some data or have install data option but it's almost never the full game, I think Skyrim was like the full close to 5 gigs.

The PSX is this thing.

Some magazines listed the original PS1 as PSX since they really like three-letter abbreviations. I've heard people claiming that the X comes from either PlayStation Experimental or PlayStation eXperience.

I'm having an old friend over tomorrow, and we want to play PGR2 together, but through LAN. Can I connect two 360's via LAN on a Xbox Original game?

I'm in the UK and i'd always called the PS1 the PSX and it became confusing when Sony launched actually launched the PSX media console. I didn't realize until later it was a magazine thing not a Sony abbreviation.

What should I consider when buying a gaming TV? I need a small one for my dorm room, probably 22". I know I need HDMI and Y/Pb/Pr, but what else is important?

Some TVs have a low-latency game mode. It's useful when playing games like Rocksmith where the guitar needs to be synchronized with the displayed notes on the screen.

Unless you have a very brightly lit room from sunlight, I would go for a 50" Panasonic plasma. They're great. If you plan to use it for static images you want to avoid using plasma technology. Even for a dorm room I would try to get the biggest TV I could fit.

Edit: If you absolutely positively one hundred percent want a smaller TV, then I suggest you take a look at Samsung's LED TVs. The price will guide you right. Don't spend extra for the SmartTV or 3D functionality.

Yeah, I'd like to get a "40-50 one, but it's just not practical under my current circumstances. Basically, I'm going to put it on my desk next to my laptop and use it like a monitor with my consoles (and maybe for some movies from my laptop). My desk is pretty big, so even a "50 would fit, but I still need the extra space to study, not to mention that using a TV that large from less than a meter is not a good idea. The mobility is also a factor, because I expect to be changing cities and possibly countries in the somewhat near future.

In anticipation of Killzone mercenary and shadow fall i've been contemplating playing the past entries in the series. Which title are the important ones that push the story of the killzone universe?

Anyone knows any news about a new Unreal Tournament? It's been almost 10 years till the last good one, and 7 years till the latest release...

I have a PSP. What's the "best" (subjective, I know) way to play Tetris on it? I think, the MINIS version didn't have an actual endless mode.

Emulating the NES version? GB one? Something different?

Buy the Killzone Collection with all three games? 2 was the best IMHO. 2>1>Liberation>3

They're all worth playing, but if you only want to get caught up with the story then you can read a one sentence summary of each game.

Why do all the dead bodies in video games just disappear? Anyone think it's possible that dead bodies be persistent in the next gen? I'd love to play a game like where dead bodies become part of the environment, maybe even change it, cause predators to come out. Are there any games like that exist now?

Memory constraints.

Why the hell do people call documentaries created by devs ViDocs? Is this instead of the less sought after BoDocs or AuDocs?

Documentaries are predominantly video based...

Is there a general Xbox Live or co-op hook-up thread hidden in here somewhere? I tried searching for one in hopes I could ask if someone would like to play through Halo: Anniversary in co-op.
My friends list is pretty much empty on both PSN and XBL as most people I know don't really play games on either platform.

I've got some questions regarding purchases from the Japanese PSN store and playing on a NA PS3.

If I redeem a JPY PSN card on a Japanese subaccount that I created on my PS3, I know I can purchase from the Japanese PSN store on that account. But can I use those purchases on my main US account (which is on the same PS3)?

For example, let's say I've been playing a retail/disc version of a Japanese PS3 game, but under my normal US user account on my PS3. If I purchase DLC from Japanese PSN store on the Japanese account, will I be able to use that DLC just fine when I continue playing the game on my US account?

Also, if purchase a PSone classic from the Japanese store (something like Einhander or Intelligent Qube), can I play that under my US account? Or will that only be playable if I'm on my Japanese account?

You can play the PSone classics from PSN JPN on whatever account, once it on your ps3 it fine as it knows the account that purchased them is active on your PS3

with regards to the DLC i don't know for certain, so don't want to guess and then mislead you

Okay, here's something that's caused a quite heated debate.

I'm playing Might and Magic: Book One from GoG. Now, here's a screenshot of the game running in CGA:

...but my version looks like this

(Apologies for the resolution difference; they're the best like-for-like screenshots I could locate)

Now the question: Is the latter picture in EGA, or is it CGA using the composite colour bleeding effect emulated in DOSBox detailed here?

There are other scenes where the latter version is notably more colourful, but not *quite* with the extent of colour I'd associate with EGA. Unfortunately, I can't find perfect like-for-like shots.

Here's another example that's not quite like-for-like, but you can see the same wall type in each:

I think it means that your reply to someone's post was ironically funny because of your user name.

(Lame) Example- Someone posted about being a vegetarian and you replied with some joke making fun of vegetarians. I would then post your user name because it has 'meat' in it.

Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply.
