This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

This isn't a gaming question per say, but it's gaming related somewhat.

How long does it take to receive Club Nintendo prizes? Just ordered a pouch

Two questions guys (and girls):

1. Mass Effect Trilogy for the 360. Yes or no? I've played the first one for a while, but stopped. Never touched the next two ones. Oh, and about the DLC. Are they all on board?

2. Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate. Also for the 360. Should i grab it, or wait untill i buy a pc again to play it on? Are there some severe bugs (lol, gamebryo)? So, playing on a couch with a gamepad, or on a laptop while modding the shit out of the game?

Wait.

Uhhh. So, I had bought Mario & Luigi: BIS for my 3DS a while ago from Gamestop. I put it in today, boot it up, see the title screen and music, everything is good, so I start a new game and it's nothing but white. No sound, nothing. I can get back to the home meny just fine. What's going on? Did Gamestop sell me a pirated copy or something?

Seriously sorry if this has been answered (and I'm sure it has), but is there a real reason that a bunch of PSone games aren't available to buy on the Vita? An example would be Suikoden. On the online Playstation Store, it says that it's playable on Vita, but it's not on the Vita PS Store app. I've heard of ways of buying games like that on the PS3 and then transferring to a Vita, but that's not an option for me.
Is it some sort of weird licensing issue, or is it just a glitch that Sony needs to fix?

Searched around and couldn't find anything.

So this kind of question has gotten it's own thread, but I don't think it deserves it. I don't really have any friends I can ask for advice about this stuff and I can't seem to make up my mind.

Should I get the PS4 I have preordered or build myself a new computer instead?

I haven't built a new computer in over 5 years, and the only parts I've been able to upgrade is my video card. My computer definitely shows it's age when playing some games, and I'd love to max out settings on some games that I own, but can't.

That being said, I do play most games like console games...I don't play a lot of those PC exclusives like strategy games, and I don't really play competitive multiplayer games. I play a lot of single player experiences that can be enjoyed with a gamepad.

I know some people would say "Why not both?" and I could get both eventually, but whatever I don't buy this fall, I'll have to wait until after tax return to get next year. I just can't decide what I'd want first. A PC I could get as soon as the end of September, and a PS4 I have to wait until release date...any big games I want for PS4 I could probably end up getting for my new PC, but at the same time, I know I'll go crazy not being part of the hype for when PS4 comes out.

I keep going in circles on this shit, and I just really need someone to help me make a final decision, because I just simply can't make up my mind >_<

Threads on that go on forever. In the end get the one you will play more on. I love my PC, game on my PC. I recommend PC to people. If you like gaming on consoles more then it might be worth waiting on the PC.

In your situation I'd probably go for the PS4. The main benefit with buying a PC (if you're not interested in PC exclusives) is that games are much cheaper, you get higher performance, and you can customize them with e.g. mods.

I can tell from your avatar that you like Japanese games and in that case a PS4 is the better choice.

Edit: Tokyo Game Show is this month. You could wait and see what Japan has to offer before you make your decision.

PS3 Question:

Is it possible to transfer PS1 Save States downloaded from the internet to a PS3?

I've seen YouTube tutorials on how to do it, but they're old and for options that have since been removed via firmware updates.

I'm pretty sure you can do that if you own the PS1/2 memory card reader.

I do own the PS1/2 memory card reader. I have no problem transferring data from the cards to the PS3. The problem is I'm lost my PlayStation 1 memory cards somewhere and so I want to download save-states on the internet and transfer them to the PS3. I just don't know how to do it.

I tried to do it a few years ago and I think you can transfer the save to a physical PS1 memory card if you connect the adapter to a PC. It wasn't trivial though and you probably have to use the correct folder and file names.

IIRC, I gave up on the idea myself.

If you have a PS2 and a PS2 memory card, you can plug your PS1 memory card into it and copy your PS1 saves onto the PS2 card (and back). You can also use software like Action Replay to move files between the PS2 card and a USB stick plugged into the PS2, but I'm not sure whether it can recognize the PS1 saves or not. If it indeed can, then you could write you PS1 saves onto your PS2 memory card, copy them onto your PS1 one (via PS2's system browser) and then use the PS3 reader as usual.

I do like Japanese games, but I have little faith in their market sometimes in terms of next gen development. Japanese audiences seem to prefer everything on handhelds these days, which is a bit of a bummer to me. I like my 3DS, but I miss those kind of games being played on my TV.

Anything they announce at TGS, I doubt is gonna be launch window for PS4, but I guess we'll see. I am leaning more heavily towards the PC because I own some games I'd love to play at higher settings, like Saints Row 4, and upcoming games like Watch Dogs will be great on PC too I'm sure.

The most compelling reasons for me to get a PS4 right now instead of PC, is simply cost. I could get a bunch more games if I get the PC, and I'd be limited to what I can afford if I build that PC.

Only two ways I can think of is to either copy it to your PS1 memory card first (using a DexDrive) or convert it on a PSP with homebrew and copy it from there.

I'd say go for the PC, because PS4 is all but guaranteed to have a rather dry first year or two (that's how it always happens with new consoles), and it'll definitely get cheaper, while contemporary PC components usually stay at the same price level. That said, are you hell-bent on spending a lot of money on your PC? Building a PC is not expensive, you know, you could always go for midrange components and get a PS4 with the money you save. But in my opinion, getting an older console is a much more sound investment at this point: get a PS3, a PS2, a Wii or whatever older console you skipped. They are cheap and have lots of amazing (if not always easily available in some cases) games

Can you elaborate on this?

Do you have homebrew installed? It's a while since I did it, but you can use cwcheat to load saves from files and then save them again on the normal PSP virtual memory cards. After you did that it's a normal PSX save on your PSP and you can copy it to your PS3 the usual way.
If you want more details on how to do it, I can try it again later and give you step-by-step instructions.

Which is the best version of Hotblooded High School Soccer (aka Nintendo worldcup)? NES? Gameboy?

What with all of the bad quality gifs on neogaf recently?

I finally got around to downloading The Sims 3 from that Humble Bundle a few weeks ago. However, when I went to start it, my PC started emitting some high-pitched noise from inside the case. I know it's done this on at least one other game (Silent Hunter 3), but can run many other games with higher requirements (BF3, Crysis, etc.) with no such noises. I'm afraid the game is somehow going to break my GPU due to this. Did anyone else ever have this problem?

How come I can't aim straight with a controller in first person view???
I mean, give me a third person shooter (Max Payne, Uncharted, Gears of War) and I am pretty good with a controller. Give me a mouse and keyboard and I am a killing machine in first person. When these two world collide (controller and first person) my brain malfunctions. I just can't do it. God only knows how much I've tried. Is anyone else in the same boat? Do I need immediate medical attention???

It may not be completely intuitive at first, but I actually aim with both analog sticks when playing first-person shooters with gamepads. The left stick is usually great for making small adjustments when facing opponents at medium or long range.

Why do some games have two years next to the copyright symbol on the title screen? Like it will say "© 2004, 2005 Nintendo".

I played around for a while, and found that the noise only occurs during the initial movies and menus, but once I actually enter the game, it subsides. Nobody else has had this?

My guess would be something called "coil whine" coming from your GPU. I noticed it when I built my PC earlier in the year and had a similar experience. I would get a high-pitched noise while looking at the start menu in Minecraft. I did some googling but I'm still not exactly sure what causes it or how to fix it.

I was wondering if there is anyway to skip the first time setup on a Nintendo 3DS? I tried once before by pressing the Home button but that was disabled. I am asking this just in case if I need to reformat the system again and don't feel like inputting all the info at the time.

This question might be misplaced, by I'm in dire need of some GAF assistance.

So basically, I just got a Wii U. Been used a bit before, but I'm only borrowing it. The problem is, the gamepad won't turn on. The yellow light is on when it's charging, but that's about the only reponse the gamepad gives me. Oh, if I hold the power button for about 10 seconds whilst charging, the yellow light goes off until I release the button.

I'm buying a screwdriver tomorrow to open up and re-insert the battery, but since it charges alright my hopes are low. :( Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Okay, here's something that's caused a quite heated debate.

I'm playing Might and Magic: Book One from GoG. Now, here's a screenshot of the game running in CGA:

Now qthe question: Is the latter picture in EGA, or is it CGA using the composite colour bleeding effect emulated in DOSBox detailed here?

6TWZcSu.png

The second set of images still look like CGA to me, just using a different palette. (Palette 1 in that wikipedia link you posted, further up in the article.) And while purely anecdotal, in my ancient EGA game playing days as a kid I never saw any game designed with EGA in mind not take advantage of the full 16 color palette.

I've never used an Xbox 360 controller for PC before -- how exactly does it work? Should I buy a wired controller or a wireless gaming receiver, or are there other ways? I already have two wireless 360 controllers that I use for my console.

Does anyone know if Skyrim is playable on the PS3 yet? Saw the Legendary Edition with all the DLC, but not sure if i should go PS3 or stick with 360.

I'm not sure if playability is dependent on PS3 model, I played it on a 1st edition slim, I only had issues with extremely low framerate during a massive
(civil war)
battle.
I did a save file trick to reduce the file size as well.
http://www.1up.com/news/bethesda-tips-reduce-skyrim-ps3-lag

Anyways, not sure if that helped in my case, but I do know that for the most part my experience was fine, And I played the game as it was receiving patches, so my experience wasn't after all the patches, yet during.

Thanks!

EDIT: Hmm, says it only works on USB 2.0; not compatible with USB 3.0. I'll investigate.
EDIT 2: Been searching all over Prisjakt and Amazon, but it's hard to find one that's Win 8 compatible. Amazon has one but they don't ship it outside of UK :/ Not sure if this would work.
I bought my 360 Wireless controller for PC at Webhallen and it's working perfectly with Windows 8.

With GameStop PowerUp Rewards, can I apply the "$5.00 off any purchase" and the "$10.00 off any purchase" to the same game?

(i.e. buying GTA V and using both coupons at once to get an effective $15.00 off)

In Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, do you HAVE to take care of you dream eaters? Can I not just play the game without poking the damn things? It's really putting me off... I don't want to do this.

Was there really no PS2 version of the Disney's Atlantis video game? I had the game on PS1 but I remember being at a store and seeing a PS2 version of it. It had a really angry looking Milo looking up on the cover.
