So I bought the first zelda off the wii u VC after not having played it for years.

I got bombs and the candle, but many areas that were bombable and bushes that were burnable aren't.

What am I doing wrong?

So guys, I'm planning to pick up a second-hand Xbox 360 tomorrow, solely for Banjo-Kazooie and (to replay) Banjo-Tooie. Halo 3, ODST, Reach and 4, among others, are included in this second-hand set, but I've got a question about those. What exactly is the reason for the high scores (I use Gamerankings.com for the averages), the singleplayer or multiplayer? Since I don't intend to use the Xbox for online (I've got a PS3, but I do have to make a Silver account to access XBLA), I think I'd rather bargain to have those Halo games removed for a lower price if the MP is the biggest reason why Halo gets the praise.

Maybe you're accidentally playing the Second Quest. Did you name your character ZELDA? Otherwise, there should be no content changes from the original on the Virtual Console release.

Those Halos all have good campaigns. 4 is probably the weakest of the bunch, but I enjoyed it. Admittedly I've been a Halo from the start. If you aren't a shooter fan your mileage may vary.

A coworker of mine is lending me his physical copy of Hot Shots Golf for PSVita. However, he wants to download the digital version of the game to his Vita because he has some PSN credit and doesn't want anything else. He plays the game constantly and wants to always have it with him without having to switch cartridges. He wants to know if his saves/progress will carry over when he plays the digital version. If they do, he said I can keep the physical copy he's lending me.

So, do saves from a physical copy of a game transfer to a digital copy of the same game? They should, right? Just don't want to tell him the wrong thing.

Hmm with PS3 games I know it was entirely YMMV as it was wholly dependent on how the publisher created the digital version of the game. Like I'm pretty sure they could create a digital version in a certain way that the memory/save system saw it as a separate game

Not sure on Vita games though as I think digital was available since Day One

Anyone know what happens on PS4 games going physical to digital?

In my experience, the PS3 saves have transferred from physical to digital. I borrowed a friend's copy of a game and then ended up downloading a digital version with all my progress carrying over. I assumed this would be the case for games across all PS platforms but yeah that's probably dependent upon the publishers.

Im guessing your memories may be from the second quest.

Am I the only one that just until recently noticed that Heartstone is actually called Hearthstone?

Geeez...

Might be worth comparing your memories to a play vid or guide and then comparing that to your current game.

Can I play Silent Hill 2 and the rest of the silent hill games without playing the first one and not get confused by the plot? Are they even related?
Please respond

You can jump into Silent Hill 2 right away. The first and the third one have meaningful connections, but you'd be fine just reading the Wiki entry to get caught up if you don't want to play the first game.

Does Sony still allow two PS3s per account? I bought a 250 GB a while back and plan on giving my old 80 GB to a friend this weekend. I have a cap of 5 GB a month, so I obviously don't download a whole lot of games, but grabbed some PS+ games when they were free with this in mind. I'm also thinking of double-dipping on the Tales Chronicles sale for this same reason.

Started playing Skyrim recently, and am currently level 4. I'm going for a jack-of-all-trades type character, with Light Armor, One Handed, Stealth, Destruction, Alteration, and Restore. However, I've got a few questions.

First of all, is it better to dual-wield in this game or is it better to carry a shield? I'm thinking shield, because I seem to really suck with two weapons. Should I keep a shield for now and wait until I invest some points into One Handed to get the Dual skills?

Secondly, is lockpicking worth investing in? I'm pretty good at it, but it seems kind of pointless as there's almost always someone in the house and it immediately causes some yahoo to come and try to arrest me. Either that or I can lock pick a case while stealthing, but it still triggers as 'crime' and the soldier shows up. How am I getting a bounty increase if I'm not visible?

Next, I've heard conflicting reports about leveling up. Is it bad to 'power level' as it were? I'm not interested in leveling up for HP, Magicka, etc. I'm interested in raisting certain skills, like Stealth and my spells. If I boost these skills am I going to be screwed because I cannot afford quality armor and weapons?

Finally, is Oblivion still worth playing after this one? Only thing I've seen in it that I would dislike is breaking weapons. Otherwise, it looks just as fun.

1) I've played three Skyrim playthroughs with a total of give or take 500 hours, and I've never used shields for more than 10 hours total. It's just the few levels that I just use everything that's in my reach, but the moment I reach level 10 or so, Healing spells are all I need. I occasunaly mix it up with Soul Trap, but that's not your question. So it's basically just your play style, but I honestly rarely used it.

2) Lockpicking is definitely useful. It's not just for doors, you'll come across a shitload of locked chests. Some with more useful content in them than others. Or did you mean invest actual Perks in the Lockpicking skill? If the latter, if you have tons of lockpicks (Tonilia from the Thieves Guild always has them in stock), I actually wouldn't invest those perks. But you should be patient when cracking those Master chests, because that'll take a lockpick or 20. Trial and error.

3) I'm not sure I understand that question. You want to use spells but don't what to level up your Magicka? If you use spells a lot you should definitely do that, otherwise you'll have just 100 Magicka (without rings and other enchanted items). What I always did was just taking turns with HP, Magicka and Stamina. I like playing as a Ranger (hybrid Thief and Warrior, with slight Magic skills of Restoration and Conjuration).

4) I can't answer that one. Skyrim was my first Elder Scrolls and I was so impressed by the world and its history, I immediately bought the 5th year anniversary of Oblivion. Didn't like it one bit. Besides the fact that the facial animations are pretty bad and the gameplay rather rusty, Skyrim seemed to have improved literally every aspect of its predecessor (maybe not the main story, from what I hear).

Thanks, might give it a try then! What do you recommend to start with? I now have Halo Reach, 3, 3 ODST, and 4. I can probably get the Anniversary Edition of CE, but what about part 2? Just play the OG version, skip it and go from CE straight to 3, or wait for the Halo 2 Anniversary?

I think they allow two of each system. I have 1 PSP, 1 PSV, 2 PS3, and 1 PS4 units activated on my account.

Edit: PSP and PSV might share the limit.

how do you get coloured lights in quake 1 ?

I remember there was some kind of tool that created new lightmaps for all the maps.

I cant remember what it was called as this was like 15 years ago.

edit:
here is what it looks like
left is original glquake / right is with the coloured lights

How come the "Volume Control" is grayed out on my PS4? I'm trying to turn up my headset volume by holding the PS button and this option here is grayed out. Any advice?

I have a Wii U. I bought several Virtual Console games on Wii. If I pay the $1.50 "upgrade fee" to upgrade Super Mario World to the Wii U version, will I still be able to play it with the Wiimote + Classic Controller combo? Or will I only be able to use the Game Pad and Wii U Pro Controller?

You can still use the old Classic Controller.
Controllers you can use: GamePad, WiiU Pro Controller, Classic Controller (which is important, since this also includes the SNES Controller they gave away once) and Wii Remote. The only controller you can't use anymore is the Gamecube controller.

I recently installed the Left Behind DLC and started the Last of Us game (digital PSN copy), after prompting for a patch (1.06) and this being installed the game no longer loads at all instead just displaying a black screen endlessly, requiring the PS3 to be turned off (via the power button on the console as the XMB menu will not load).

In an attempt to remedy this I tried re-installing the game entirely. After downloading the game from PSN and starting it, it loads to the install screen, asks me to login to PSN and download patch 1.06. If I do this, the patch downloads and I am returned to an endless black screen again. The in-game download/install screen does NOT re-appear. If I cancel the patch download or choose not to sign in, the in-game installation will not continue and I am repeatedly prompted to log in.

So, I wondered if it was an issue with that Playstation specifically so I did the same on a second PS3 in the house and encountered exactly the same issues. I can't try it on any others (can only have two active devices now rather than five) so I'm at a loss.

Has anyone else had the same issue? And if so how did they solve it?

I emailed Sony CS and they told "due to data protection" I'd have to call but their opening hours and my working hours don't mix well so I'll have to call them at the weekend and no doubt wait in a long queue so I thought I'd ask here as well.

Anyone have any ideas?

On Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 on the PS3, can I play split-screen co-op without having to create a second PSN or User, and if I can will the second player be able to level up or unlock things and save their progress like on the Modern Warfare games, or if it just makes a sort of guest profile like Uncharted 3 has, were everytime you play the game the second player just has what the first player has unlocked?

2) Yeah, I meant skill perks.
3) Sorry, I meant I was wanting to boost stats, I wasn't wanting to "level up" for the sake of more HP, Magicka, or Stamina. I was wanting to raise the value of my sneak, etc.

Anyhow, I've now since discovered that spells take a "hand" so is it worthwhile to dual-wield swords? What I mean is, provided you remember to swing both arms, does it really increase damage output significantly, or is it more for show?

Does any one else see similarities between Flappy Bird and FTL?

Play FTL then play flappy bird. Same emotions in each. "Hey I made it 8 sectors." *Boom insta death*, "hey I made it through 8 pipes." *poink insta death*

Do you rage hard when you play FTL ?
edit because of your edit: Yeah, FTL can be hard but never instant death. Luck is a big factor but so is skill, I would say the game is about 60% skill and 40% luck.

A long time ago, someone posted a link to a some sort of forum from the early 90's. The linked thread was about how Nintendo was doomed because the Super Nintendo was going to be more weak and the Genesis.

Anyone has the link?

There aren't any games. :/ There haven't been any big AAA releases in months, and Watch Dogs is the only big release on the horizon. Quite a big dry spell. :/

Not sure where else to post this, but Gamestop is having their "Buy 2 Pre-Owned, Get 1 Free Under $20" sale today.

I'm trying to decide on picking up a few games that I wanted to own for PS3, and I need some opinions on whether I should jump on this deal now, or if I could get them cheaper elsewhere.

Disgaea D2 (Buying Disgaea 4, then returning it): $25
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time: $15

As for the last game, I'm trying to decide on quite from quite a few of them.

Final Fantasy XIII
God of War Saga
Ni No Kuni
Dark Souls
InFamous 2

Your thoughts? Or should I just wait for Watch Dogs?

I'm trying to buy rayman legends through gamersgate and my pre paid credit card keeps getting declined. I've checked to see how much is on the card and I have enough to buy the game.

I live in Canada so is there an additional fee that's preventing me from buying the game or do they simply not accept pre-paid credit cards ?

It's my first time trying to buy something from them and I've used the card once already so I know it works.

Have you tried using PayPal? Most of the times my debit card is declined but PayPal always works.

With water tech being one of the big graphics benchmarks over the years, why do fluids always look terrible when being poured into or being drank from glasses?

No I haven't tried that yet but I'll see if it will work

edit: I think the reason is because it's converting the amount left on my card from Canadian to US dollars so I won't be able to actually use it. I do have a paypal account but I'll just wait for another sale and get the game then

I think my X360 play-and-charge kit is acting a little weird. It only charges when the Xbox is on, but I'm pretty sure it's also supposed to charge when the console is on standby, right? That link is about the XBO play-and-charge kit, but I remember it being the same on 360..

If it's a defect then I'm going to buy a Speedlink charger, I had one of those in the past before I sold my first X360, and it did its job well enough.

Actually it's probably because most of these games don't use a fluid physics engine in the first place, so they animate it by hand very quickly because to many developers it is still a trivial thing compared to what they could do with the resources they have.

IIRC isn't it a power saving setting that enables/disables USB charging when the console is powered off? I haven't used my 360 since last year and it's in the closet to I can't check myself.

It seems every Japanese game I play recently is obsessed with souls (Demon's Dark Souls, Soul Sacrifice, Soul Hackers etc) and I've recently got Murasma and Puppeteer through PS+ and both have started with stories about stolen souls.

Needless to say I'm noticing a theme, what's going on? Is this something deeply rooted in Japanese culture due to one of their religions? Are there many myths about supernatural beings that collect souls?

Someone in the comments suggested "Everyday" by Buddy Holly.

Yeah I should have mentioned that, that's stretching it more than most music similarity posts in the Videogame Mindblow thread :P.

It's a song commonly played on piano, follows the exact same cord progression ass the bassline of the Dr Mario theme, except with a few more notes.

Ok. If Nintendo had to sell one of their franchises to anyone, who would be the best and the worst to buy one of them?

A terrible one I can think of is if EA buys Animal crossing and almost everything is DLC. Buy this pink lamp for 3$.
