This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I recently got a PS3 and I'm wondering if the following will work: I have a 1TB external HD with movies in it. Can I just plug it in to the Ps3, browse to the movies folder and play som movies on the Ps3? I know it doesn't have the best format support but Ive got movies in pretty much every format (mp4, avi, divx, mkv)

If the HDD is formatted to FAT32 you should be able to browse it. Some of the video (and audio) formats won't work though as you said.

I am trying to open the command console in HL2 episode 2 but I can't get it to work.

I followed this guide and no matter how much I spam ~ it doesn't work.

Help please?

Nevermind, I switched the key binding to another key and now it opens.

Need help finding the Hades Helm in God of War 3. I know it's after you fight Hades, you swim to the bottom of the river. I do just that but it's not there. I can't find it. Any help?

What are the colored plugs on the back of the ps2 called and where can I buy a replacement?

The yellow video cable and red and white audio? Composite cables. I believe all PS3 composite cables will also work with the PS2.

I have a 48 hour XBL Gold trial code from when I bought Halo 3. The code is the one that comes with the game with the instruction booklet. I have not used the code and I am wondering if they would work now? or would it have expired?

I have quite a few that I have not used from games that are a few years old. My XBL has run out and wanna see if I can use these up first.

They should be OK. I don't think they expire.

I'm not saying it applies to all things but I just came across a few 360 games recently in my backlog that I opened up and found a card inside for dlc content that said it expired in 2009 or 2010 and much to my surprise/delight they still worked.

Ok thanks.

I have another question:)

I'm going to be staying with a friend next week and he has XBL Gold whereas I have SILVER. Are we still able to play games in coop? Like, Halo Reach, L4D offline coop? I can sign in and use my profile and vice versa or do I have to have GOLD as well?

Has there ever been a platformer in which you climb something, like a mountain, and that's the whole game?

I don't mean it's crumbling or demons are chasing you or anything else that sounds like Tall Infinity/Catherine and whatnot.

I mean a MASSIVE structure that starts on the ground and you have to go around and around it, ever upward, until the end of the game when you reach the top.

If not, I've always thought this would be a good experiment for a Mario game. You could design a giant beanstalk and give it the same amount of variation as your Mario Galaxies, but all contained within the same climbable structure. There would be checkpoints for when you fall or die, reasonable power-ups that don't let you cheat, and the same zany enemies you've come to expect from the series.

Ice Climber kinda falls under that, but I can't think of a recent game that does.

You can play co-op offline fine. If you go online you'll need gold, too, though you can use guest.

When is Amazon.com's death grip on the Android version of Plants vs Zombies going to end? It's not on the Android market because of that deal, but I don't live in the US. It's not available to me at all. Sadface.

Instead of going looking for the PC thread, I figure I'll ask here;

what's a good temperature level for a laptop under heavy load(ie, Crysis). Mine can play it, but SpeedFan reports the processor to be at 90-95C, which I'm guessing isn't beneficial to the laptop's health(processor is an i7).

I might just make a thread for this but I guess I could try here first. So I bought a US PS3 Slim about a month ago and brought it over to Uruguay (South America, to save you some googling). My question is the following: the US voltage is 110 I think, but I believe things run on 220 here. If I plug the PS3 in, will it adapt to the higher voltage or get fried? I've looked this up online and for hours and am getting conflicting reports. Most people seem to be saying that the PS3 is smart and works on 100-220 volts. However, some people insist that if I just plug it in to the higher voltage, it will try the system. I don't Wanna risk losing my precious ps3

Do I need a games case/manual when trading it in? Does it take some value off of the game if I don't have the case or manual? The games are all in great condition, I just threw out all of the cases last time I moved to save space.

I'm asking in terms of Amazon, and possibly Gamestop.

I can't seem to buy games from PSN with my credit card. Redeeming PSN cards works fine, but paying by CC doesn't. Is it just me, or has this been true since the outage?

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it done. Purchasing through MediaGo didn't work, but purchasing through PSP did work. I had to change my router settings from WPA2 to WPA so my PSP could connect.

Amazon? Yes, if you select the highest option you will need case/manual (not sure about the other lower options like "acceptable")

Gamestop? No, but they will charge you something like $1 if you don't

Sounds good. Thanks!

This might be a truly stupid question but something that has piqued my interest.

Okay, so due to the steam sales, I have acquired some great games that I need to burn thru this summer, fall, and winter... Seriously, Last Remnant, Darksiders, Just Cause 2 and about 50 other games (indies, RPGs, platformers)....

I may be showing off but I just want to show how much I need to play this games. Now, I happen to have a PS3 (phat) system and I consider myself a pretty big fighting game nut (not good by any means, but I love playing the games and follow the streams/play with the local FGC). But the only game I play on the system now is Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, since I got Super Street Fighter IV: AE for the PC and got it to work (was a faulty drive issue affecting the OS and games).

I got an offer to trade the phat system (no BC, 80 GB) for an Xbox 360 slim with one controller. I really been wanting to get the system, and if anything, I can use it to play XBL-GAF on it. What's your opinion/insults, GAF?

The shut off temperature is 100C for those processors, so you're getting pretty darn close to thermal meltdown. You should try to keep it under 73C if you can. Maybe you should pick up a laptop cooler.

Okay so a long time ago i pre-ordered Skyward Sword at Gamestop (before the name was announced) anyways i paid some money before hand so that when release day came i would have enough money to purchase it. So my question is, if the gamestop i went to closed down, is my money gone or could i still go to another gamestop and tell them i pre ordered and paid before hand?

I had a question about the Xbox 360 license transfer tool. So, let's say I purchase a new Xbox and use the tool to transfer my licenses to that console, would I be able to redownload my purchased XBLA games even if I didn't have the old HDD of the console I had before? I gave my brother my old Xbox and I'm pretty sure my account is gone from that console.

Damn, you might be out of luck, but I would still go to another store and check.

Has anyone else's xbox live accounts been hacked recently? Mine just got hacked and while I was on the phone with customer support the guy said that there has been an "overwhelming" amount of accounts hacked within the past week.

I think they're able to move it. I was able to a few years ago, but it may depend on which GameStop you go to.

Out of curiosity, how much money did you put down?

I recently inherited a PSP 2001 that still has version 5.2. When I plug in the power cord it says I have to update to the most recent version, but then it says my battery is critically low and it has to charge before I can update and play anything. Problem is, the battery won't charge. Do I just need a new battery? Or is something wrong with the PSP itself? I'm thinking battery, it's sort of puffy and the cover doesn't close easily because of it. Also, when I look in battery information in system settings it just has "--" for every category, like the battery isn't even connected.

You'll be good to go. Even if they can't find it in the computer, they have to honor the receipt or give you store credit.

Why did you preorder Skyward Sword though? You could walk into any store on launch day and literally trip over boxes of it.

Xbox Live Gamer Tag/Profile question:

Can I move a Gamer Tag/Profile from one Xbox 360 to another simply using a flash drive? I know save data wont be kept.

Because every time i have cash laying around i always spend it on things i don't even need like today i had 40 bucks cash so i bought a webcam. and the main reason i pre-ordered is because the dude at gamestop wouldn't shut up about me pre ordering something(peer presure) . i need help saving up money :( lol

Get a new battery ASAP. Swelling does occur with lithium-ion batteries through normal use, but if it's bulging out of its plastic case, that's too much.

I bought the PS3 DDR game when it first came out, played it a few times, and it sucks. I haven't played it for months now.
What should I do with it? Should I sell it on eBay or just go into Gamestop and sell it to them or whatever?

What are the differences between the 1.0 and 2.0 versions of the official ps3 Bluetooth headset? I actually like the design of the first better and I'm just curious if the 2.0 is much better or something.
