This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I doubt you'll get banned. Though you'd probably be better off asking on the Steam forums for Garry's Mod.

I don't think I would get banned either, just want to be sure and not risking my account. I would use Steam forum but since this is like the only forum I used, I think I just ask here.

I would recommend turning MSAA off entirely if you're going to use SMAA.

Oh well, I want to combine SMAA and MSAA because MSAA doesn't filter transparency aliasing, and Gmod maps are like full of transparency. /hyperbole

Edit: Nvm, I found the transparency in the nvidia control panel. /facepalm

Go with Guacamelee. Aim for 100% and you will be pleasantly surprised by the insane challenge it offers. It is extremely rewarding, you will love it.

I'll definitely add it. I purchased it on PS3 and got it free for Vita. I don't know why I put it down on console.

Question - I have PX5s. I've been hooking the optical cable up to my 360/PS3 directly, but is there any reason why I shouldn't just hook it up to my TV? That way when I switch inputs I'll always be able to use it automatically for whatever device I'm running? Will I lose audio fidelity or anything?

NOTE: My tv is a Vizio VX32L

Dumb Vita related question : can i play a physical european game on a console linked to a US PSN account ?

Yes but you wont be able to use/play DLC for it.

Super C just released on Wii U VC a few days ago, any one know why the original Contra has not been released yet? is not in 3DS and not in the Wii, however Super C and Contra 3 are there.

Noone knows. The MSX version is on the JP Wii VC, the NES version was included in Contra 4, the arcade version is on XBLA, but somehow the NES version never gets released on VC.

Serious;
Why do publishers etc insist on releasing their games alongside other major games instead of spacing them out? March 2014 for example.

Fun;
What's a JRPG? Is OOT a JRPG? Is Nier a JRPG? Is Okami a JRPG? Is Drakengard 3 a JRPG?

There are many possible reasons. It's important for some companies to release games in a specific fiscal year. Some genres are not at all sensitive to the date of release since they're mostly bought by a small set of dedicated fans that will buy the game whenever it's available.

There are two rival definitions of JRPG.
1. A RPG from Japan i.e. a Japanese RPG.
2. A traditional command-based RPG with a stereotypical art style and story.

I personally prefer the first definition. The examples you listed are third-person adventure games with plenty of RPG elements. You could classify them as either lite RPGs or just adventure games.

Im not an expert but to me: it needs to be from Japan obviously, enemies and character have stats, story unfolding through the game, some form of managment on equipment or stats. Combat is more about preparation and strategy than skill.

Can anyone else not see the viewer list on twitch.tv? I've tried and just see a constant loading circle on any browser or twitch channel I go on.

Is it possible for system updates to improve performance on games on the system? I'm asking cause I restarted Metal Gear Solid 3D on my 3DS and, it might just be me, but the game itself seems to be a lot smoother with less slowdown than the last time I played it. (Back in October, for the record)

Can you change the region of a PSN account? I made it while I was in Spain, but I'm going back to England tomorrow, can I change the account to a UK one or do I have to make a new one?

Nintendo never makes technical details of system updates public unless they fix very publicly known bugs in top-tier games or real system-bricking bugs in their own software, but 3DS system update 5.1 from last March/April made some non-specific performance enhancements that many people said they noticed manifest in the form of improved frame rates in certain games, including Metal Gear and Rayman (see this NeoGAF thread). Some argued this was just perception or a placebo effect, while others said the system updates might have meant non-optimised games saw some improvements while tightly optimised games were already running as well as they could so there wasn't just a system-wide frame-rate upgrade across the board.

I actually don't see coming out of Japan as a requirement to make something a "JRPG," just like something doesn't have to come from Japan to be anime. I agree with the idea that if we're going to categorize all RPGS as either a JRPG or WRPG, the distinction is in how each culture treats RPGs as a whole. WRPGs emphasize the player's importance on the story, be it through literal choices in the plot or in character development choices. Generally this involves the main character just being an avatar for the player to put themselves in, or build however they would like. They're a blank slate.

JRPGs generally have a very rigid narrative because they have their own stories to tell. The player plays the role of "puppetmaster" directing the actions of characters with their own goals and motivations. There's no room for the player's personality or choices, because they're there to experience the story that has been crafted.

That was how i roughly see it too.
WRPG - YOU are the Hero.
JRPG - You PLAY the Hero.

Of course generalisations etc but that's how the genres tend to differentiate themselves to me.

8xCSAA vs 4xMSAA in term of performance and quality?

Also, the option "enhance the application setting" in Nvidia CP means that it will turn any AA ingame to the AA set in the CP or what?

What is your favorite food to eat while gaming?
Requirement: It can not leave your fingers sticky/greasy/caked in cheeto dust or negatively affect your thumb to stick comfort.

I do cereal too much...

What's a good site that lists video game release dates and is updated frequently? Preferably, the site would list games that have specific dates (like 3/11), general dates (Spring 2014 or Q2 2014) and announced games (TBA or TBD).

Vgreleases.com is pretty good. Remember, that release dates are in a constant state of flux so all dates are subject to change.

I'm playing LocoRoco2 at the moment, I've completed it but I'm missing one image in the album of memories section - which is really annoying ;) Can anyone tell me what the image is between 'Tree Root' and 'BuiBui Robo'? Thanks!

I've had a Day One Xbox One since launch and somehow the analog sticks on my controller have gotten really dirty despite light use. Is there a simple way to clean the dirt off? The edges of the sticks have a rough surface so it's a bit difficult.

People read from left to right and the first digit is the most significant. In this case most potential customers will interpret the price as fifty something and they will be more willing to purchase it.

In Dark Souls 2, Do you need to be in human form to be able to summon other players? I know you can still get invaded when hollowed as long as playing online.

Why games are being sold at 59.99 price tag instead of plain 60 ? I know this is not unique to video games but still.

Its a psychological thing in pricing. You see the 5 first and think that it is a better deal, unconsciously, because 5 is lower than 6. When you think logically or rationalise it for even a second you know that it is only one cent different but the price has already got your attention.

Doesn't matter what the product is really, it's generally followed for everything except really expensive things like 6 figures or more. Some shops stick to 'whole' values and use the idea that 'well you won't have any change in your purse/wallet weighing you down'

Simple video explaining it.

What is the backwards compatibility like on the DS and 3DS?

Does the DS play all Gameboy color games too or just GBA games?

Does the 3DS play anything more than the DS games as well as 3DS games?

DS and DS Lite play GBA games.
DSi plays nothing but DS.
3DS plays DS games.

The only way to play GBC games is with a GBC or a GBA.

K so it's more or less what I thought. One step backwards compatibility which is still nice

Is the DSi noticeably better than the DS/DS lite?

The DSi has a slightly larger screen, and is still Nintendo's sexiest handheld in terms of quality, design, and aesthetics.

So is Liberation Maiden any good on 3DS? Currently on sale and looks like some crazy Japanese fun!

I'd definitely reccomend it, especially at its current price. It's a simple game, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Very stylish, some great music, and decent replayability. It's not that long, and not amazingly pretty, but other than that, I have no problems with the game.

One quick question as I might need to import Senran Kagura 3DS from the UK: despite the region-lock UK 3DS games should work on a German 3DS right? :o Thanks in advance for any help!

So I just grabbed Cytus for Android earlier today and found it to be a pretty great time. My question is, is this game pretty much the same thing as DJMAX Technika Tune for the Vita? Because if it is, I think I need the latter in my Vita asap, cost be damned.

Guys, can I buy a used 3ds?
Will I have any problems/restrictions for it?
The whole "Nintendo ID is locked to a system" thing is what's holding me back.
If I buy a used 3ds, can I format it and get my own account?

What about a used copy of Pokemon X/Y?
Black and White had this thing where you would register your copy to Pokemon Dreamworld or something and the only way to download stuff to that game was through that 3ds and that account...
