This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Guys, can I buy a used 3ds?
Will I have any problems/restrictions for it?
The whole "Nintendo ID is locked to a system" thing is what's holding me back.
If I buy a used 3ds, can I format it and get my own account?

What about a used copy of Pokemon X/Y?
Black and White had this thing where you would register your copy to Pokemon Dreamworld or something and the only way to download stuff to that game was through that 3ds and that account...

I'm not sure about Pokemon, but there should be no problem with a used 3ds. You can format it and create a new Nintendo Network ID without any trouble.

When the word 'native' is used when describing the resolution of a game, what does that mean exactly?

I'm under the impression that the majority of televisions are 1920x1080 in terms of their native amount of pixels. So how can 1600x900 or 1280x720 be described as native?

Why can't I buy every single DS game ever on the 3DS virtual console? Wouldn't they just automatically work since the system supports the cartridges? Seems like a complete no brainer.

A game is rendered as an image at some point in the game engine, and the output is then displayed. This image size is not required to be exactly matching the monitor, and most hardware (usually the video card or some other intermediary component) does scaling to make it fit on the screen. When people say native, it only means that the internal engine's output resolution is at a specific spec.

Is there any way to rip a Castlevania SOTN PS1 image from my Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles PSP UMD?

I ask because I want to play that version on the using the TV out function on my PSP, as PS1 games played on PSP output a beautiful fullscreen 240p image instead of the narrow box PSP format games appear on TV. I´d like to play the new English voiceover that way, or Japanese voiceover with English text.

Are there any breakdowns of the type of files in the latest current gen games? A lot of them seem to be 20GB+ and I don't buy that huge jump from last gen is due to texture resolution increases.

What else would it be? Besides sound files, that is.

I am getting an Xbox One and I was wondering about gamertags.

My old Gamertag may not be in use as I let the email address expire (Was an old one).

Would I be able to transfer everything on to a new gamertag or would I need to start my Achievements from scratch?

Do any of the current gen game textures look that high fidelity? Sleeping Dogs specifically got a higher resolution texture pack on the PC and that was <4GB. BLOPS2 is 16GB but Ghosts is 40GB. It crazy, even Witcher 2's insane textures don't take up that much space.

Fspm braught up a good point two posts above. Pre-rendered cutscenes, in higher resolutions, could account for a lot of the space as well.

Can anyone suggest a good flash drive suitable for GTA V on Xbox 360 for around a tenner? There's so many options out there with different specifications, and some stores don't even provide read speed info, making the whole thing difficult to work out.

Besides Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and Tales of Vesperia, what other console-exclusive RPGs are worth getting on 360?

How do I disable the login screen from popping up every time I turn on my PS4 controller? I have the power save option for my DS4 to shutoff after ten minutes. Once it shuts off, to start it takes me to the login screen. It's a useless extra step which annoys me since there is no other user on the PS4.

I've combed through the settings and I'm hoping I just overlooked the option.

I accept colour variations, but what's with the pointiness?

Whatever happened to the Shining Force series? Shining Force I and II on the Genesis are two of my favourite games of all time. I know the Saturn got III, and after that it looks like everything went to hell.

Are there any other games in the Shining series that are also in the grid based tactical/strategy RPG genre? From a quick glance, it seems like it became a bunch of action RPGs on the DS and PS2, and now is pretty much mobile.

So I guess my question is...are there any more games in the Shining series that don't suck?

Bonus question: Who developed Shining Force I & II? Are they still around? What are they making?
2nd bonus question: Who scored I & II? What other games did they provide music for?

If I were to buy a 3DS XL with a game pre-installed will I be able to keep that game as I transfer over all my original 3DS content? I can get a deal on a new XL with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team installed.

Those are western peaches. This:

Is a picture of a Japanese peach tree. Notice the pointiness.

Edit: almost forgot to add, those are also ripe peaches. The shape changes as they grow.

Oh, interesting. I wasn't expecting there to be such a major visual difference while still being regarded as the same fruit.

I've not listened to it yet, but I recall someone mentioning that the latest 8-4 play podcast covers some of this.

Okay so... which 360 model should I actually purchase, and what's the risk of getting one used? I know the older models had the RRoD, but is it still prevalent in the Elite and Slim models? I'm not going to be playing a ton of games on it, maybe 10 games, but from what I've read, you cannot download XBL games to your HD if you get the 4GB model.

The best 360 model is the slim imo

Reliability is rock solid in my experience, it looks nice, runs well and is not too large

Don't like the 360 E model very much but have never owned one

Do not buy the original fatter models [white, elites etc] as those are the ones prone to failure, at least the earlier ones

Not sure on the HDD thing though, I'm probably going to buy a used 360 slim again at some point as my current one is dead. Used has no warranty

The $10 PSN Wallet credit that came with the launch PS4s says it expires on 3/31/14. I'm assuming that it means that the code will expire and not the funds themselves. So if I have them in my wallet, then I should be safe then right?

I ordered, then canceled, ordered and then canceled an Xbox One. I have to wonder, is there a chance for 360 BC in the future?

I understand why PS3 games would be difficult to bring to PS4 due to cell architecture, but would it really be that challenging for MS to find a way to make BC possible? This may help make the choice for me easier.

Backwards compatibility with the 360 is unlikely. They also use a new CPU architecture and they don't have a good track record with supporting old games or platforms.

If I recall correctly, it was Camelot. They left SEGA falling out over I believe Shining Force 3. Then they went exclusively work with Nintendo

Hmm what do you want them for? Do you mean a wireless extender? Because I would highly recommend a powerline adapter solution before a wireless extender

Something like this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0087O6AQE/?tag=neogaf0e-20

What are you trying to connect and where is it in relation to your router?
Not sure if wifi extender is the same thing. Basically the signal doesn't seem strong in my room in relation to where the router is. My ps4 seems to get an ok signal but my ps3, vita and laptop load stuff pretty slowly.

A tragic, horrible demise. :(

No to the first question (other than those spin-offs on Game Gear and Sega CD, but they mostly reuse assets from I and II), and (unfortunately) correct to the second sentence.

So I guess my question is...are there any more games in the Shining series that don't suck?

Camelot developed I through III, as well as Shining in the Darkness and Holy Ark. They were not involved with any Shining game after III. They then made the Golden Sun games, their last worthwhile projects, and are now wasting their talent on doing Mario Tennis and Golf crap. ;_;
According to Wikipedia, Masahiko Yoshimura composed the music for Shining Force and apparently did very little else. Motoaki Takenouchi did the music for II, as well as Landstalker (you can really hear the similarities in the music of both games) and also little else, which is a shame because they were both very talented. Motoi Sakuraba did the music in III and Holy Ark, and he's far more famous and prolific (Tales games, Star Ocean, Golden Sun, Valkyrie Profile, Dark Souls among many others).

I would kill for either a Shining Force IV (Camelot plz) or an HD localized remake of the Shining Force III trilogy (on consoles or Steam, preferably not handhelds). But I've been wishing for that for a decade so.... yeah, not gonna happen. XD

All right so I looked up a wifi signal booster and there appears to be some aftermarket antennas you can get for certain routers to try and increase the signal range or you can get what I thought you meant which is the wireless extenders.

Wireless Extenders receive the Wifi signal wirelessly and then repeat that signal from their location so it does increase the range but it's connection to the internet is wireless and thus subpar compared to a wired solution

A powerline adapter plugs into a power outlet near your router, takes a wired internet connection, then sends the internet signal through your house's electrical wiring. Then you have the other powerline adapter attached to a power outlet near whatever device or devices you want connected to the internet.

In essence a wireless extender suffers from being a wireless solution twice, once from the router, and once again from the wireless extender itself.

A powerline adapter solution is close to a wired solution in speed, reliability etc.

The ones I suggested are a powerline adapter solution with a wifi repeater built-in to the output adapter so you'd get wifi signal output in your room for instance from what is basically a wired connection

Let me know if I need to explain anything further as I tend to talk in circles lol

Here's a diagram showing the setup I'm thinking about for you with those powerline adapters

Wow thanks! That sounds like a great idea. Is it safe though, since it goes through ur electrical wiring? That diagram is very helpful and seems like the perfect solution. That one u linked to before, is that a decent one?

You're welcome :)

I've been highly recommending similar solutions to individuals seeking ways of extending remote play range for their vitas in their homes

Powerline adapters are perfectly safe. Even if you had piss poor, "will light your house on fire any day now" wiring in your house, a powerline adapter would simply not work. Assuming the wiring is not about to burn down your house it'll work perfectly well though.

The one I linked would most likely do you just fine but upon a further glance, I think this is better for the price

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009WG6K66/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It's 6 or so dollars more but the powerline adapter connection [between adapters] is 500mbps instead of 200, and while those numbers sound crazy, it's not exactly 1:1 real world. I'd probably opt for the Netgear in this instance

Really appreciate it. having wifi sucks, having shitty wifi is torture! Will go with the netgear u recommended. Thanks again

No problem. Wifi can be annoyingly limiting

Just fyi, when you do setup your powerline adapter solution, the output adapter in your room will provide wireless signal like we've discussed [much like a router] but also has a Ethernet port. I would recommend attaching a switch to the output adapter via a Ethernet cable and then you could have both your PS4 and PS3 connected via wire. Could even run a wire to your laptop if you use it at a desk [i.e. in the same place in your room all the time]

Just my thoughts though

Ur just making my day better with each post! Lol did not know that, wow. Thats really good. I checked out some local stores to see if I can get the powerline through them as I dont usually buy online and I dont think us aussies can buy from amazon, is this pretty much the same thing? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=200_1348&products_id=26585

That appears to just be a standard powerline adapter kit so the output adapter would only have the Ethernet port [i.e. wouldn't output wireless signal]

You need to make sure that you are buying a powerline adapter set that includes wifi repeater functionality.

I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with Australia's electronic purchasing options

I checked and neither the netgear or the Linksys ones I showed you on Amazon ship to Australia either

Feel free to PM if you need help looking for them. otherwise maybe some Australian Gaffers can recommend good places to look for such things?

Edit: Something I failed to take into account is that the US has different electrical standards than Pal countries so you would need an appropriate kit for your country

After a little google-fu, this might be a good option

You need both as they are individual adapters but it's the same specs as the one I linked on Amazon
