This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

What is the minimum amount of time you can commit to World of Warcraft and still enjoy it / be able to achieve something?

Basically I'm asking this because I'm considering getting into it when I'm done with my backlog, but I rarely play mid week and I would rarely devote more than 5 hours on a weekend to it, so it kinda feels like wasted money in a subscription if I can't get enough of it with my time limits.

PVP takes considerably less time commitment than PVE. Random BGs can be done in short bursts. Raids can take hours with few breaks.

Aren't raids more like endgame PVE, though? Doing regular 5-man dungeons is super accessible, especially with the dungeon finder. I was able to get a character from 1 to 70ish in a couple dozen hours doing only dungeons, so I don't think there's that much of a commitment. (especially since those have very little prep time). You can get the feeling of playing with others without the baggage that way.
Outside of that, I'd say it depends on how much you perceive the value of the subscription money. I played when I was unemployed, but it filled a lot of time and I managed to put 100 hours in in a month, so I got my $15 worth. If you don't have so much time, but the money holds inherently less value to you, you might still be satisfied with the fun you have with it.

How solid is the single player in Rocket League? I would play with my fiance, but only if there a split screen mode. I haven't really been interested because it appears to be a multi-player mostly game, but would it be worth the money for those?

Single player is basically just playing matches against the AI in the season mode. They're not particularly good, but it's a decent way to get a grip on the physics of the game and get some practice in. You can choose what types of matches (1v1, 2v2, etc) and the difficulty of the AI (3 levels), and what your team name and teammates' names are.

There is a split screen mode, which is fun, although it restricts the field of view for each player, which can take time to adjust to after playing on your own.

I consider myself a single player first kind of gamer, and I've dumped 150+ hours into online multiplayer in Rocket League. I'm not even sure I've played any game for that long, let alone one where it's just in online multiplayer. I obviously can't speak for your preferences, but the online community serves different types of players, whether those just casually playing in unranked or those playing more seriously in competitive. You can play split screen online with your fiance on your team if it makes a difference to you!

So, yeah, I love Rocket League. I think you should definitely give it a chance.

I don't do PvP, ever. My last Raiding experience with Destiny ended in desaster due to the time commitment. Also sitting for several hours gives me no manageable levels of pain. I need to stand and move a bit every hour if I want to keep playing...

And yes, I value money a lot. It's not like I can throw it like bread crumbs. Let's say that I am the person that has to finish every purchased game or I feel like I have wasted money. Same thing applies to subscriptions and why I stopped renewing PSN Plus.

PS: Friends are trying to talk me out of ever trying WoW. They don't want to lose another person to addiction.

Hope it's ok to ne asked. Is there a reliable source which tells a)how many units Wii and PS3 sold b)how much revenue Sony and Nintendo had from both console ?
And is it true (with source) that Sony was selling Ps3 losing money in the beginning? I don't want to trigger cw i'm genuine asking.

Bought an Xbox One today (my first MS console).

  • Wtf... I forgot this controller need batteries. What is this USB hole on the controller for? Can I charge it with it?
  • Are chances slim to get into Gigantic beta post layoffs?
  • What are some cool things to do with and or get for this thing? Like... Any life hacks I should know about? Cheap game sites or so on?
  • Seriously, batteries? Is there a charging controller or some magic batteries that last years?
  • Can I just go into the store and whatever 360 games are there, I can buy and play on it? I can't check yet since it's been updating for like 30 min. What I mean is, will non compatible games simply just not show up?
  • What are the perks of Live Gold? I don't care much about online multiplayer.

You can charge the battery pack with it. Or if you've a cable you can play it without batteries but constantly wired.

No clue.

Get the smartphone app for the console. Kinda a handy thing to have. I'm sure there's plenty more tips out there.

Buy a battery pack. Or rechargeable batteries. Only solution so far. Or see answer 1.

Don't think that option is available yet. They are releasing it to preview owners that you can buy backwards compatible games through the store. Presently if you owned a game digitally on the 360 it'll show up in your "ready to install" section.

You could crawl through the financial statements and make rough guesses. Doubt they've detailed information out there(I could be wrong). And think the FS are once again the spot to see if they were selling at a loss. I believe common knowledge is that they were selling it at a loss.

Do original (first one) Xbox games when played on 360 support 720p/1080i resolution? I know that 360 upscales them but those few games that supported 720p natively like Amped 2.

I tried googling but Xbox one with backward compatibility makes it impossible to find info about first xbox/360 compatibility.

If I was to buy a single Final Fantasy musical album that has a survey of the franchise with high quality track, which one should I get? Distant Worlds?

Thank you. I don't think i have the time to skim all those data. I wanted to reply a guy who said that ps3 sold more than wii, revenue wise, but it is not worth the effort lmao.

Apparently they weren't even sure about it in Gaf years ago:

Apparently the games that could be run at 720 look a bit cleaner than games at 480p being upscaled. I've thought about Sould Calibur II being the easiest way to know it as the game ran at 720p with black bars in 4:3 aspect ratio and 16:9 on 480p, but apparently the emulation would fix this.

i got a PS4 a week ago and i put my original ps3 profile on it. BUT i had put my account on my friends PS4 awhile back to play BOzombies.. it just cut me and said activate as my primary account.

(ofcourse i had deleted my profile off my friends PS4)

when i go to activate it wont let me saying "error (NP-34957-8)"

i cant play any of my games or watching Netflix or Hulu

I can't find that dang shop with Nathan Drake and DOA Helena anymore. Please help, GAF.

Fighting games... Used to mess around with them as a kid, and I'm now looking to get into them properly after enjoying Skullgirls as much as possible on a keyboard. Did some research and ended up ordering a QanBa Q4RAF, which should hopefully be here by the weekend.

A few questions.

How much of an edge do you lose with age? I'm assuming after years of practice that anyone could best 95% of players, but that 5% becomes insurmountable? When did you start to lose that little bit of reflex?

What's the absolute best place to start in terms of PC fighters? Just jump into SFV, continue with Skullgirls, or play something different? I've no preferences or allegiances. I just want something that's both good from an instructional POV, and has a decent long-term PvP community. I don't really wanna be one guy in a pool of 150 who've played it for years & I'll never be able to topple.

Is there any redeeming point for a PSN+ Subscription if you are not interested in the monthly games and you don't play online / multiplayer games?

The slightly higher discounts could be a point, but.... What made me think about the subscription again was the cloud saves backup after reading in a thread about local saves lost to corruption during power outages.

I'd say if that's all you use it for then buy a 1 month sub and cancel immediately, upload all your important saves and from then on randomly take out another month when you have a load more to upload.

Are there any good horror games available or upcoming for the PS4 besides the Resi games, Until Dawn, The Evil Within and Layers of Fear (I don't really care much about Resi and already own the latter three)?

Soma might be the best one? I know it's very well reviewed and while more sci-fi I know it has spooks to it. Made by the Amnesia folks if you're familiar with that on PC. Outlast is liked by folks but I couldn't stand it (I don't like games where horror is the main conceit). Among the Sleep might also be worth looking into.

A bit of a tangent but perhaps also check out Alien Isolation. And it's a shame PT is unavailable to download but I know there's tricks to getting it if you Google around. My roommate got it on her PS4 by following some steps online though I know she had to sign in as me on her system to get it? Not sure what the current steps are or if they still work.

That covers most my knowledge of those that are decent to possibly great (somewhat depends on taste). Not sure what is upcoming.

What's the best Harvest Moon game?
I have access to a N64, BC Wii and DS.
Also willing to try out MySims and Animal Crossing if they're much better.

Q: Do the windows 10 store games store their savedata somewhere accessible? Can i manage savedata from that xbox app somehow / is there a cloud storage available?

In the early '90s, how did fighting game players figure out the commands for the special moves in arcades? I did a quick search on google and see that for Street Fighter 2, they were included in the manuals for the SNES games, but obviously arcades don't have manuals.

Read gaming magazines. Otherwise...

You just started mashing buttons and trying combinations for characters and tried to deduce your way through. If forward forward punch was a Liu Kang technique, it might be a technique for another character... or maybe back back punch was the right combination. And you could always ask other kids about that.

Now fatalities were impossible to guess.

Solved! In case this happens to someone else, the HDMI cable was loose. It's weird because Fallout 4 would play fine. Thought it was in relation to a power outage the other night, midgame.

Yep...was probably drm handshake was not working correctly...that link was broken...games don't have drm enabled on hdmi link

Harvest Moon is really different from those other slow life games in that they have a goal/endgame. The structure is more RPG like, you're still doing repetitive tasks, but you're doing them alongside a story with a narrative objective you're trying to complete.

In my opinion some of the best are A Wonderful Life (Gamecube) and Friends of Mineral Town (Gameboy Advance). (maybe you can play one of those on your Wii or DS?)

Save the Homeland (PS2) and Back to Nature (PS1) are also great.

Wii also has SNES and N64 titles for download on Virtual Console, which is a great deal because those carts are crazy expensive.

For xbox games (gears and tomb raider) it does saved games just like xbox one...it just works and uploads to cloud

If you give yourself access to the app folder you might be able to pull the raw save files but i don't know how useful that would be

I put in new hard drive into PS4 (2TB now) but my Final Fantasy X and X-2 saves are now gone!

I was up to the first Blitz ball match you are involved in, so its not terrible that long in to the game but I haven't been as invested in it as I was for FFx-2 when I played that years ago.

I suppose the main questions are:

Does it matter if I lose that Blitzball Match?
How important are these matches to the overall story? Are there more and do I need to do them?
The Levelling system the "Spheres", how do I know if I am levelled up enough for a boss encounter? The whole thing seems confusing to me

Actually, the Mortal Kombat II cabinet at the mall arcade had the moves on it, although I'm not sure if on the marquee or the bezel.

Nope

They don't affect the story and I beat the game without playing blitzball a single time, not counting that mandatory match. Supposedly you can obtain Wakka's final weapon or limit by winning the league, I think[/quote]

Dunno, the boss kicks my ass regardless of skill and I've been suffering more than usual with the normal enemies prior to it? As far as I can remember about my original X playthrough, there aren't a lot of trick battles like in FFXIII where you die if you don't do things on time (Anima, maybe).

Alright I'll try A Wonderful Life, thanks broskie.

so i'm aching for a boxing game and there's no one in sight AFAIK

I don't want UCF/MMA

Last one i played is Fight night 4 and i sold it

Is fight night champion any good or i have to buy FN4 back?

Already have PT, and it's never leaving my HD ;) As for Alien and Outlast, I'm not really a fan of games where you have no weapons and have to play hide & seek, but I may look into SOMA since it's supposed to be good, with little hide & seek gameplay compared to Amnesia?

I honestly don't know how much hide and seek there is in SOMA but I do know the only main complaint I've seen is the annoying enemies so maybe check that out before spending the money.

To me a horror game is essentially something where it's dark, creepy, and you have no weapons and can't fight back. But that's probably why I say I don't care for horror games because I don't find that fun and I don't get scared/anxious so the emotional response is lost on me. I can't think of anything else that you or I haven't already mentioned that would be horror otherwise.

Good luck!

Well I bought Soma based on the previous responses.

Question:
Can you have the PS4 standing up vertically?

Lots of old arcade machines had a command list on the cabinet, showing each character's two or three special moves. Remember there were no supers, EX moves, focus attacks, V-Triggers, or any of that stuff back then, so it was pretty easy to include a move list that didn't take up much room. If you google "Street Fighter 2 arcade move list", you will be able to find various examples of the instruction panels that were mounted on the cabinets. Be warned though, most of them are hideously ugly and cheap looking.

So I just turned my Xbox one on for the first time in about a month and a half and wasn't too surprised to get the " It's time to update screen"

What was surprising was that it had to update multiple times then it started asking for my time zone like it was the initial setup. I then had to sign in with my gamertag and was shown the little start up video for the first time the console turns on.

Now I find that every game I had downloaded or installed on my system is gone.

Somehow my system pulled a complete factory reset because I didn't turn it on for a month.

Is this known issue or just was there just a major update I didn't know bout that did this?

So all in all,

Is gaming performance better on Windows 10 than 8 or 7? Playing the same game, Even if it's something like 5 frames difference?

It's mostly the same. There are a few games here and there that might be better on one or the other but almost all of the benchmarks had similar or within a frame or two differences.

Why in the seven hells would Rameses put a fucking dummy in his ship pretending it is Sully, when Drake wasn't suppose to go to his ship and there's no reason for Rameses to want him to?

I mean, what the fuck?

In case someone doesn't now what game I'm talking about, Uncharted 3

Was it ever confirmed (or confirmed to not be true) that Gearbox funnelled money from Aliens: Colonial Marines to develop or advertise Borderlands 2?

so, what's the deal with windows 10? I'm not a PC gamer but steam is pretty popular, I never hear bad things about it. so is this windows 10 stuff fragmenting the PC community?

Windows 10 seems to be fine. Better than 8, but it still is not convincing a lot of people holding to 7. Good for gaming due to DX 12, bad because of the Microsoft store and Windows Universal Apps. but not like you can't keep playing steam games on it, so...

And apparently a nightmare with data privacy, from what they say.
