This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Two questions...

1. Do Xbox 360 Platinum Hits and/or PS3 Greatest Hits have reversible covers?

2. If you set your PS3 system language to Japanese and play the US version of Heavy Rain, does the game get presented in Japanese?

So I was offered one of the old 360 models with 2 controllers, a harddrive ( i stupidly didn't ask how big), battery charger, extra battery packs(?) for $150. Is it worth it?

I'm not worried about RROD because I don't plan on playing it much. I'm only interested in Alan Wake and perhaps L4D2 (assuming its campaign is worth it... is it?).

Why are so many POVs in FPS so short? Noticed this in BlOPS and KZ2. Am I to be a midget in every game now?

Probably just to make it look better. The closer you are to the ground, the faster it looks like you're going.

I'm thinking of selling my 60gb PS3 to get a more reliable slim due to the impending arrival of GT5. Is there a good guide on how best to transfer my data to the new console?

here's a guide

it's pretty easy and alls you need is an ethernet cord and the firmware updates

Has anyone ever had their Dragon Quest IX sort of glitch up to the point where they can't save? I was just wandering around, and suddenly most of the text became gibberish, including text on the top screen in battles, and any dialogues with NPCs. Now I'm stuck because I tried talking to a church NPC to save and I'm in an infinite loop because the yes/no dialogue option doesn't appear when I choose the save option in his menu.

Has there been any news on PixelJunk Shooter 2's release date. Around E3 I heard it was coming out in the fall but it's near the end of November now and I haven't heard anything else since then.

My house mate has made a Live account on my Xbox,, only it won't let him get a free Gold trial. Why not?

EDIT: We did it on Xbox Live, and I've already had 3 accounts activate on my Xbox. Relevant?

Yes, it's only one gold trial per region per console.

how did phantasy star online on dreamcast end? I got to the last boss but he transformed too many times, i always died at his last form. :'(

How is Dragon Age: Origins on the PS3 (no, I don't have a gaming computer)? I've heard good things about the game, but mostly from the PC version. I've never played a game like this before, but it seems interesting.

I played through it on my PS3 and had no problems. Loved the game. PC would be preferable, but I was in the same boat as you were and settled for a console version.

I have question....

I'm not trying to troll or piss anyone off. I generally wonder about this.

Why does everyone (well most) on Gaf have this Elitist "high-art", hipster prick attitude about video games? I lurk here a lot, probably like most members, and sometimes it really makes me wonder about what's going on in your heads?

Some people have shitty taste, some people have good taste. Some people avoid criticizing others in the name of civility, some people love to throw that civility out the window (thankfully!).

Happens with every forum I've ever seen on any topic ever. I see it a bunch in person, too.

Dude-bro games? Low-brow gaming? C'mon seriously? that or it's or the usual "dude I hate casuals!", which is typically hidden in some implicit remark.

I'm sorry to break to you guys, but i don't think video games are that serious if a medium or artform for there to be Low brow or high brow games. Games are either fun to play or they aren't fun play, that's the sole criterion by which games are judged.

"Dude-bro" works as a goofy descriptor for macho first person shooters, but I would so make fun of anyone using the term "low-brow gaming."

Of course, the whole point is pleasure, yeah. But there are degrees of pleasure. There are good games and there are VERY good games. There are bad games and there are awful games. This is based entirely on how entertaining they are. This is not based on things like "experiences" or "messages."

There's nothing thought provoking or emotional about tetris, street fighter 2, or Strikers 1999. Farmville and call of duty appeal to the masses because they are fun and easy to play, and that is about it.

Why do I do stupid dances when I win in Street Fighter if the game isn't emotional? Why am I tense as hell after losing to the final boss in Assault Suits Valken? How is it that some people can consistently win in Street Fighter/Strikers and others cannot if the games don't provoke thought?

It's as if you don't know what "emotional" and "thought provoking" mean, but figure that they sound good.

Good thread.

Question regarding the retail RDR Undead Nightmare Collection:

Can the contents of the disc be installed to Xbox 360 HDD and accessed through the original RDR disc as DLC would? The reason I ask is I'm wondering if I'll have to switch discs to go from playing for 100% in the original campaign to playing online poker games that got tied into one of those multiplayer packs rather than being in a title update.

I'm seeing Black Friday sales for $21.99 so it would be nice if I could just get this stuff from the disc and not have to deal with re-downloading if I ever delete it for space.

How do amputees play games? When I was in school, there was a guy that was in the army and got sent to Iraq. He was there less than a week and his group hit an IED. His right arm had to be amputated below the elbow and he lost the tip of his left thumb and a couple fingers. He's a big game though. Especially RPGs. I could understand playing most RPGs with one had, but he said he loved the Tales series. I never did ask him how he could play it because I thought that would be too rude.

Special controllers? I know Ben Heck has made some controller mods for disabled people.

In the Remake "MGS: The Twin Snakes" on the Gamecube...Why the hell do Mei Ling, Naomi Hunter, and Nastasha Romanenko from Metal Gear Solid on PS1 lose their respective accents (Chinese, British, Russian) even though the voice actors for said roles on both PS1 and GCN versions are the same?

The Movies Box Art

i had a lot of fun with it myself. never see it mentioned here at all

Me! I liked it. Used to love making movies and seeing it become the number 1 movie on release, and then hoping to be rewarded with some rewards at the rewards ceromony. Untill I worked my stars too hard and they'd end up depressed and in the bar too much :(

My friend's Xbox showed a red quarter-circle (NOT the RROD) and a system error, but when I rebooted it was fine. Should I be concerned or does it happen every blue moon?

I prefer to buy retail instead of on Steam. Only reason: filling my shelves and having something tangible from the game.

Am I being a dinosaur? I love Steam, aside from the 1$=1€ BS. Anyone else have this?

Need some help making my next console purchase:

I currently own a first-gen Xbox 360 (so no HDMI, and it's loud) with no PS3. Now, I can't decide whether I should get a PS3 or 360 slim.

My primary reason for wanting a new 360 is that mine is extremely loud, has a small hard drive, and doesn't have an HDMI port. But the thing is, I hardly play games anymore. I only ever borrow games from friends these days, but I often use my 360 for Netflix streaming.

I'm weary of getting a PS3 because I'd rather just have one console, but it's hard to resist all of the media options: Vudu, Netflix, Blu Ray, etc. Should I just bite the bullet and get a PS3, or stay with the console I've already invested in? I have NO interest in gaming on the PS3. I'd probably buy one without hesitation if I wasn't worried my 360 was running on borrowed time at this point.

You'll be gaming on a 360 Slim but not a PS3? The 360 then.

But gaming isn't terribly important to me at this point, and I could always go back to my old 360 as long as it still works. I can't decide if I want Blu Ray or not. Netflix HD streaming has been serving me pretty well thus far.

Here's a stupid question:

I've relied on two sites to determine the likelihood of a game getting a release date or if there's a release pending: Gamespot (the old Ziff-Davis site, not GameSTOP) and Google. Google is a mess of often worthless results. Gamespot has lost it and is obviously in the pocket of big business now and I only ever go there to read the odd review.

Is there a definitive site for release speculation and confirmation? Giant Bomb? Somewhere else?

Oh I see, it's not a replacement, it's an addition. PS3 then, BluRay is wonderful. No 'HD' you've streamed is anything like the quality of BluRay.

But then I'll have to pay more for Netflix, and I am on a college budget. Decisions, decisions.

Netflix is free on 360 but charged on PS3? I wasn't aware. I'm from the UK, we don't have Netflix so I can't say what you'd be giving up. Tough decision indeed.

Err, I meant if I wanted to get Blu Ray discs via Netflix. It isn't a huge added expense, but still.

I guess I'm leaning toward the PS3 at this point, but this means I'll probably leave my 360 at my parents' house once I switch apartments. I doubt I'll have time to play stuff anyway. Bummer.

Netflix on 360 requires Live Gold as well as a Netflix subscription. It costs more on Xbox but the interface is much better IMO. PS3 also has 5.1 sound for streaming if that matters.

In Team Fortress 2 when I'm the Spy and using a disguise, what weapon does the enemy see me holding??

It would be great to be the Spy, disguise as the Sniper and be seen holding the sniper rifle. Great for 2Fort.

In Gears of War when you get hit your screen will fade, is there a specific name for that? Same goes for Mass Effect or something like CoD.

Didn't Natasha have her accent? xP I'm pretty sure Mei Ling and Naomi were never supposed to have accents in the first place. They didn't have them in Metal Gear Solid 4, either.

I really want to get one of those cables that let you play your console games on the computer. I'd like it mostly for my Wii, but it would be nice to have it for my 360 as well. I know next to nothing about these (I think they're called VGA cables) but where do they get plugged in on the computer and what is the price range??

I don't know too much about them myself but I did get one for the 360 before I had an HDTV and let me tell you... buy an official one. I bought some third party one and it was always loose. I ended up taping it to my 360 until I just gave up and went back to SD before I went HD.

I have a Gameboy Advance SP that has dust trapped under the LCD screen. The unit came that way, but is now long out of warranty obviously.

Is there any easy fix for this?

It would be great to be the Spy, disguise as the Sniper and be seen holding the sniper rifle. Great for 2Fort.

When you disguise you equip their primary weapon by default. If you hit the "B" key you can switch the weapon being held currently (in appearance), but as the game makes no indication of the switch (at least the last time I checked) there's no way to verify unless you ask a player on the opposing team. I've never personally verified this but it appeared as a tip on the loading screen once.

Donkey Kong for Game Boy is one of my favorite games. Are the Mario vs Donkey Kong games the same genre, or are they closer to regular platformers?

The MvDK game on the GBA was more or less a modern evolution of the Donkey Kong formula. The rest of the MvDK's are puzzle games in the vein of Lemmings.

The GB DK was a puzzle-platformer. Are you saying that the GBA game is like that one, or like the original DK games?
