This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

About time for a Mirror's Edge replay: is it better with KB/M, or should I wait until I have a gamepad?'

- Favorite game of all the time is Fallout and Arcanum, but haven't really played any rpgs(besides oblivion/ff13/ ds games) since Knights of the old republic. I enjoyed system shock 2 also.
-My time is limited.
- Does the game let you pause during cutscenes and still read the subtitles?

Did you hate KOTOR? If not, Mass Effect is the best of those 3 games. It's combat and RPG mechanics aren't particularly impressive, but it's a must play for it's player driven story and the awesome cinematic style and universe.

- If you just stick to the main story, you can get through it in 12 hours. It's not as big and much more directed than Fallout 3.

- I know you can pause with the guide button, but I'm not sure if you can press start without skipping the cutscene. You can hit X during conversations and it'll skip the voice and just show the text for fast readers.

Keyboard and mouse felt more natural to me. There is also no autoaim so when you might pick up a gun, you will be shooting wildly. Unless you don't play like that. Then nevermind.

I remember joking around to myself (since I only talk to myself). It's not a serious question.

If superheroes in Marvel vs capcom games have amazing powerful moves and supers how come they don't use them in the comics?

XD XD XD XD

...does anyone have that image on game challenge back in the day vs now? the "now" one was a guy bitching about not having checkpoints every 2 or 3 minutes or so?

So my PS3 died because apparently the only company that can make game consoles that last a whole generation is Nintendo and even they're slipping this gen. So my question is, if I buy a new PS3 and stick my old PS3 hard drive in there, will it have my unsynced trophies and games and everything? Is it as simple as just popping the old hard drive in there? My PS3 won't turn on any more.

I believe that doesn't work at all, the harddrive will be formatted if you insert it into a new PS3.

EDIT: That's what Sony told me when my first PS3 died, but actually thinking about it, I don't understand how that can be true. Maybe I'm wrong.

Im pretty sure the first thing the PS3 will do when you put in a new hard drive will ask you to format...which also erases everything.

The only method I know of to keep mostly everything would be to use the PS3s built in backup utility and backup to an external drive and then restore that to a new PS3. Since your PS3 wont even turn on, Id say youre SOL. Someone else on gaf might be able to help better.

Sorry :(

Did you troubleshoot at all? Maybe its fixable...at least temporarily until you can get your saves from it?
There's not really much that can be done with it. It's a flashing red light, which means overheating, but I had it turned off and unplugged for two days and it still doesn't work. There's plenty of space around it, too, so it should never really have gotten hot in the first place. I don't really feel like spending the $168 to repair it. Especially since it's a 40-gig fat model with no backwards compatibility, which I'm fairly certain is objectively the worst model of PS3. :P

I need help finding a game's official site, mainly because I do not know the name of the game. I don't believe the game ever was released because they could not find a publisher but I want to look at it anyway!

So here it goes:

-Premise is an Online First Person/Third Person Fantasy game similar in a way to the current Call of Duty series including level progression.

-Everything expected in a fantasy setting; dragons, dwarfs, old mages, assassins, mounts, etc.

-First trailer released involved a thief/assassin sneak killing someone before encountering a giant blue ogre of some sort.

-There was also a video released where a ton of dwarfs run around on screen to show off the graphics and AI the developers were able to pull off.

Does anybody know of anywhere to purchase any videogame music/soundtracks on vinyl? I was just given a record player, but I have very few vinyls. I was hoping I could track down some Uematsu or Nier on vinyl, but from my searches I don't think those even exist. But any great vg music on vinyl would be awesome if anyone knows what's available.

Quick question for you PC gaming guys.

I've been playing the Halo 1 demo on a LAN party with my entire video media tech. class in our spare time. It's really fun, but it only has blood gulch and one game mode because it's only the demo.

Now, if I were to buy the Halo 1 or even Halo 2 full game, could we still play in a LAN party after copying the game files onto each computer? Or would the game not allow us to do that?

My damn Split/Second completed save file got corrupted for whatever reason and I don't feel like playing the game over again.

I found a completed save file online, is there anyway I can get it unto my 360? I dont have a wireless connection on my 360.

I thought it would be as simple as using my flash drive but thats not working.

So I have a PS2 and I want to hook it up to my monitor. I know that I need some sort of component to VGA converter and was wondering if anyone has any experience in this. I am looking for a somewhat cheap solution. Around 50-60 dollars. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Was thinking about getting this - http://amzn.to/hlFKb4

Thoughts?

Beginner PC gamer here. I'm looking into upgrading my video card on my laptop. Do I need to be THE administrator for the laptop, or just AN administrator to install and run the new card?

You probably can't... you're not meant to replace laptop video cards.

Boo-urns means you like it - it's the opposite of booing.

Wow. This is actually really logical since Smithers convinces Burns they're chanting to Burns (Boo-urns) instead of booing him. But I never even saw it that way... It can be interpreted as a boo (Boo-urns!) since that's what they were doing, but also the way Burns is interpreting it as... :O

The infamous Citizen Kane clap is similar, in the context of the film it is really contrary to the way people use it.

If I were crazy enough, where could I go (aside from Ebay) to purchase a copy of the Asian Deadly Premonition (aka Red Seeds Profile) for PS3? Play-Asia appears to be sold out.

So I recently moved to the Phiippines to work, had to leave my US PS3 at home because of baggage restrictions, now I want to get a new slim, but I've got some questions.

If I get an Asian version PS3, will I have trouble connecting to my US PSN account?

I backed up my US PS3 HDD data before I left, will I be able to restore that data on my new Asian PS3?

Will my save games still function correctly?

Will my US bought DVD's and Blu-Ray's no longer function?

Really random question. In most games, when going down a ladder, holding down causes the on-screen character to slide down the ladder. Usually, this does not work going up, for obvious reasons.

I recall one game though, were one could "boost" up ladders, via a jetpack/jetboots or something, instead of climbing them rung-by-rung. But I can't think of what it is. Anyone?

It's just something small that's been bugging me, don't ask why.

You can do that in Shadow Complex.

1 That will work

2. A whole hdd backup cannot be restored on another system, afaik

3 did you back up the whole drive, or saves one by one? The latter should work.

4. Some Blu Rays a re region free, other not. I'd guess that most will not work.

360 question: Performance-wise, are there any cons in installing a game on an external usb stick vs on the console's HDD? Also, will a game detect its DLCs if I put them on a usb stick? Thanks in advance.

Edit: My usb is a Kingston 16GB 10MB/s R, 5MB/s W if that helps.

So I was browsing some news sites today and I found a pretty disturbing article. I have no idea where this fits so I'll post it here.

This is an article on a site call gamecrush.com
I tried about 40 times to write something that doesn’t offend everyone who uses this service and I have come to the conclusion that I can’t. No one can. It’s still an incredibly creepy service and very possibly used by incredibly creepy people.

I don't know if anyone has heard of it, but gamers pay money to have girl gamers play with them. And there is some kind of cam so that the guys can see the girls at all times. But the girls arn't naked. Maybe.

I'm pretty much speechless right now. Would people actually use this?

Any HDD reading will be faster than any USB speed, at least currently.

Can't answer your DLC question, sorry! I would say yes, because DLC is (generally) account or Xbox based. So if you have the DLC in question downloaded, it should be available to you.

We've known about this site since before it launched, I remember there being a pretty extensive thread on it.

YesAsia.com has in stock.

It's the Japanese version. I'm looking for the Asian-region version with English dialogue. Play-Asia had the Japanese version as well. Even if I wanted it, there's no fucking way I'm paying that much for it.

Oh well. Too bad Sony didn't want to release it in the US. I would have bought it.

Thanks for the response.

something I wanted to ask for quite a while

"press start to continue"

what the fuck is the point of this? why is there another compleatly unnecesary buton press required betwen starting the game and getting to the main menu?

I know old nes games had this (don't remember it from my older PC games), but usualy that was beacose there was no main menu to speak off so the thing made sense, but why do I have to endure this in 2011 when every game has a main menu?

On the original Xbox, this was actually used to determine which controller was for player 1. The controller on which start was pressed was the one that the default controls mapped to.
