This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

DS games still require WEP security when played on a 3DS unless specifically designed otherwise. Pokemon Black and White will work with WPA, but the Gen IV games won't.

In other news, the DS internet connection options are separate from the 3DS internet connection options. You have to set it up for both.

What's the best Saturn pad -> Dreamcast controller converter? Where can I find one?

I have and like the Total Control 3, went with it since it had a Twin Stick mode. Play-Asia sells them.

Can someone give me a rundown on the PS3 jrpg's?

Or PS3 rpg's in general?

Besides the big releases like Oblivion, Mass Effect (lol), Final Fantasy... I've kind of missed out. I want so badly to play Tales of Vesperia, but I guess it's only on 360. :/

I want something to substitute.

dunno where else to ask, so I will here -

I just went online to the xbox.com page and entered a 12 month gold sub card. It accepted it, and my account info says:

Status:
Enabled
Purchased:
9/17/2011

End date:
9/17/2012

But whenever I log into xbl (this was 30 min ago now, and I've logged on and off about 15 times now), I'm listed as "xbox live free" still. Espn 360 works, but netflix does not (get the "upgrade to xbl gold!" prompt). Do I just need to wait longer, or is something screwy here?

White Knight Chronicles 2 (it includes 1) is a normal Command-RPG, it just looks like an Action-RPG in videos. It does some interesting things, I'd say it's worth trying, I wasn't a fan.

Star Ocean 4, not good at all, and embarrassing to look at.

Eternal Sonata, it has it's charm, not a great game by any stretch.

Resonance of Fate, GAF would probably tell you this was the best, I've not given it the time it deserves, so I can't comment.

Costume Quest, a Command-RPG out of the US, short and sweet, a cake walk though.

Nier, I don't think it's really an RPG, more like a Zelda game to me, but it's the best game out of Japan this whole generation on PS3.

Thanks stuB's.

I'm going to try RoF and Nier... gives me a place to start at least. I guess PS3 is a huge step back from PS2 in the rpg department. Would have never thought that going into the generation.

I'll have to track down the PSP stuff when I get my Vita.

Another amazon question. It seems they changed their preorder bonus for FIFA 12 to $10 credit rather than $20. Do I get the $20 like it was originally and what says in my email or will I just get the $10 as it is now?

Hey Gaf, I want to delve into the slew of great horror games. What horror games are considered the best, and more specifically, what are some good horror games on Steam?

I preordered Deus EX HR from Amazon the day they had $20 credit offer, but it showed up only as $10 I let it go through anyway, about a week later they sent me an email with an extra $10 credit and I never even contacted them so you probably will get the $20 total credit eventually.

This is for Oblivion fans. I wasn't sure if I should necro-bump the OT.

I really want to replay it, thinking about getting it on Steam. They have the GOTY edition with Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. I know those are great, so I definitely want those, but then they also have "GOTY Deluxe".

Fighter's Stronghold Expansion
Live the life of a noble warrior in this expansive castle with private quarters, grand dining hall, and a wine cellar.
Spell Tome Treasures
Get these books and find low and high-level spells, as well as new powerful spells with multiple effects added.
Vile Lair
An underwater multilevel hideout for evil players to find refuge, providing your character with safe haven.
Mehrune's Razor
Conquer one of the deepest and most challenging dungeons in all of Cyrodiil to claim this fearsome weapon.
The Thieves Den
Uncover a famous pirate's lost ship and claim it for your own. Designed for stealth-based characters.
Wizard's Tower
In the frozen mountains of Cyrodiil stands Frostcrag Spire, a tower of wonders for your magic-oriented character.
Orrery
Harness the power of the stars. Rebuild the Orrery to unlock the secrets of this Mages Guild Inner Sanctum.
Horse Armor Pack
Tamriel is a dangerous place. Protect your horse from danger with this beautiful handcrafted armor.

Any of that stuff worth it? Despite the 100+ hours I put into the 360 version back at launch, I've never checked out any of this. Horse Armor as a bullet point is somewhat worrisome :lol

Most of that stuff was forgettable. I faintly remember the Mehrune's Razor quest being decent. It's the only real quest among those DLC packs and you get a cool assassin's outfit out of it. I believe it's available to purchase individually on XBLM, so it would be much cheaper that way.

Aside from that, I wouldn't recommend anything else. The stronghold stuff was pretty dull.

I am in possession of the Alone in the Dark trilogy for mac but I get a message saying they don't work on the new software environment or something. Anyone know a way around this?

Dual boot an older OS is about all you can do.

Dont feel bad, Lion killed a little over a dozen Mac games I owned, including Max Payne, Red Faction, Sacrifice.

I'm not sure if this counts as a gaming question per se, but when will E3 2012's website go up? I thought I'd try to register for the hotel early this year so I could get a good one but it's not even up yet.

Aren't Steam backups supposed to contain all the updates as of the creation of the backup files? I'm reinstalling stuff after having installed Win7, and am currently on the titles that comprise The Orange Box. The backup itself took around 10GB, which was apparently compressed down from around 20. However, Steam has every title queued up in the download list as each having 3-4 GB to download now.

Pfft, a while form now I'd imagine. February?

Is there a good site to buy 1 month of xbox live and they will just email me the code instead of sending me the card? I'm in the UK if that matters.

There's quite a few. Poke around the EU bargain thread, I think I've used one called something like xboxlivecodes.co.uk (Don't quote me on that, check the thread).

Why is PSN so fucking slow? Serious question.
That depends on your location. I usually get download speeds around 5 MB/s from it, which is fine. Are you living in a place with poor broadband infrastructure?

Just to touch on an earlier question again: The first Dynasty Warriors Gundam title. Any significant differences between PS3 and 360? The only one I can find is that I *think* PS3 doesn't have trophies, but are there any notable graphical or gameplay quality differences?

It can be related to a DNS issue. Many people got big improvements by using Google DNS servers instead if their automatic FAI ones (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 IIRC). That doesn't work for everyone, but it's easy to try (you can even try other DNS, such as OpenDNS, but beware, if you make credit card purchases, you have to trust your DNS server). My guess is that they have some sort of load balancing issue. Not sure at all of the reason, though.

Usually that's not the issue, most people that find PSN slow are comparing it to other services they get from the same adress.

I just finished the 2nd lvl in the original LoZ but I feel like something is missing before going to the 3rd. I spoke to one of the old men and he said something about a grave. Any help?

GAF, remember those rewards people would get for Uncharted 3?

Any word on, how we will get them? Can I delete my UC3 Beta? But maybe not delete my UC3 Beta data, right?

If you can, please answer, I'm short on space on my PS3. Thank you

What's the deal with 'GAF plays...' threads? Is it as random as normal threads, or more like OTs? How long to people usually give GAF before it starts?

So, sort of out of the Wii loop. Haven't turned on console since finishing No More Heroes 2.

I intend to purchase the new Zelda coming out and I think I read it has "motion plus." Does that mean I have to buy the motion plus accessory thing in order to play the game or can I play without? The Zelda special edition with the controller doesn't include it does it?

New wii remotes have motion plus already built-in. They're labelled like this.

So yes, the special edition with the controller does include motion plus.

Is there a reason that the 360 updates are so much quicker than those on PS3? I'm not trolling, I rarely pick up games on releases anymore and I'm just sitting here waiting for Madden 10 to update and I'm curious. And yes, I realize I'm way behind on my sports games.
