This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Am I better off playing Wii games on an SD, Tube (Sony Wega/Trinitron, or whatever) TV? I have fairly mediocre HDTV/Monitor that Wii games (even in 480p) look like shit on. As its looking like I'm going to import Xenoblade, I'm wondering whether I'd be better off playing it on this TV I found in my parents' house.
Well, the tradeoff here will be that while Xenoblade natively supports 480p, you'll need to mess with your software settings(whatever you're going to use to play the import) to change the sd resolution to 480i (it will normally run at PAL 576i i think?) I don't know if that will look worse than 480p on your HDTV, but its worth noting.

(this is, of course, assuming you're in ntsc land)

In Final Fantasy IV's main logo, is that Cecil, or is it Kain? I would figure Cecil, considering that he is the main character, but it hella looks like the "character" in the logo is carrying a spear, which would mean he is a Dragoon (Kain).

Someone, help me out here.

i bought a ps3 and made a name and now i haaaate it. so i made a new one and realized all my saves were gone. plus, i lost my catwoman DLC that came with arkham city. apparently only one of my usernames is allowed to play as her.
I have an Asian copy of the game, and I can play catwoman on my main (US) account.

Stupid question: Typically, how long does Amazon run their promo credits for new releases? Is it the whole week of the week it is released? I picked BF3 and I'm wanting to wait until the $20 credit kicks in before I purchase Dance Central 2.

Apple just updated the MacBook Pro's specs to include a Radeon 6770M with 1GB video memory. Is that better?
The 6770M is slightly better than the 6750M (the previous card you asked about).

If we're still talking about Battlefield 3, the 6750M is slightly better than the minimum requirement. Neither of them come close to the recommended requirement. If you want to, as you said, play BF3 maxed out on a laptop, you probably need to find one with something like a 6970M. Or you need to get a desktop.

Does anyone know if Senko no Ronde DUO is region locked? Just saw it on games on demand on the japanese marketplace and I want to buy it.

Anyone know how I can fix a sticking pause button on a Sega Master System II console? Every time I push it in to pause it sticks in but eventually pops back out if I leave it awhile. Can I fix this if I open it up?

I've never opened my Master System, but i'm pretty sure the button is spring operated and replacing it by opening it should do the trick. might want to grease the button a bit too.

Thanks. I just opened it... No spring! Just a removable button so I popped it out and readjusted it... It's the one with Sonic built in... Just about to open my Alex one to see if it's the same (that one doesn't stick)...

Wait, is this difficult to do? I'm confused, and have no idea what to expect from Wii CFW.

Should I buy the ICO collection or PSP GOW collection? I've played all the console GOW games and enjoyed them. Never played ICO but most people seem to love it. Reading up on it, though, it appears to have some frustrating parts and terrible controls. I'll probably end up getting both eventually but one will have to wait a long while. Which should i get first?

It shouldn't be very hard at all. I'm not sure what programs the cool kids are using today, but if you use GeckoOS to run the import disc, or the HDD Loader to rip the disk and run it like that, both should have very clear video options -- you'll be looking for something like "Force NTSC".

There's good info about this on the GAF Wii Homebrew Wiki ( http://gwht.wikidot.com/ ) and if that isn't clear enough, the friendly folk in the GAF Wii Homebrew thread seem to always be up for helping out http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291277.

Where do all those NES, SNES, N64 etc ROMs that are on the Internet come from? I've always wondered this. Are they released by insiders or do people extract them from the game chips, or what?

Is this a trick to get someone banned?

No?

Another question from me: Is there a difference between Wii Remote Plus and Wii Remote + Motion Plus? I'm talking about stuffs like battery life, calibration time, pointer sensitive etc.

You could/can get devices with which to dump carts onto some other form of media. Floppys in the olden days, for example.

My old beloved MX 518 is dying ( cord issues I guess , it disconnect and turn off randomly) so it's time to upgrade :(

So what now..G400 or G500/G9? or is there even a better one from other brands in the $60 range?

Repair the MX 518.

Why did you have to hold reset then power to save your game on NES?

For the same reason you had to move the volume slider on an original Genesis to '8' and cycle the power 3 times while holding 'C' to get to the hidden system test mode. Silly question.

Just out of curiosity which is the best thread to ask for a screenshot to be resized to a manageable size. I have a screen that i'd like to post into another thread but i think it's way to large, so i'd like to get it resized if I can.

I don't know how. Either the cable has a crack in it. You can easily replace that. Or the circuit board has a cracked connection. You would have to get out the ol' soldering iron then.

guess I am going with this(I like it's color the most) but can you give me any reason why you think G500 is better that G400? after reading some reviews on them I am completely lost ,some guys says G400 is updated MX518 and the way to go if I like MX518 , some says G500 is the way to go and million years better, some say they are the same and other reviews say G400 better.

Is Japan World Cup 3 still playable? The site is still up but I can't get it to play based on instructions in other threads. I've tried FF and IE, both flash versions are up to date.

This is a flash horse racing betting game. (not much of a game)
You can play it here: http://www.jra-jwc.jp/win5/
I figured out how to start the race:

1. Press the Red "SKIP" button on the bottom left.
2. Click the same red button again.
3. Click the furthest left yellow button on the bottom left.
4. Pick the furthest left of 3 yellow buttons. (Not sure what the differences are)
5. Pick the amount of credits you want to use to bet on. (Purple Button on the buttom right shows how much you have out of 20)
6. Pick 1 rider from each of the 5 races. (mouse over button to see what they look like)
7. Pick the large yellow button on the bottom left of the popup.
8. Click the same yellow button again.
9. Click the red button.
10. Click it red button again.
11. Watch the race.

My stepdad is trying to redeem a Gold Membership code he just bought, but it's asking him for his Windows Live ID and password. Normally this isn't a problem, but for some reason his password is invalid and it won't let him back out. What in the world is going on?

EDIT: We managed to get back to the dashboard, but we still can't redeem the code and we have no idea what password to input since his XBL password is apparently no-good. Can someone please help?

EDIT 2: Had to go and do a password reset, but now everything is fine.

I have the original FFXI disk that came with Playonline and the HDD for the PS2.

Now, I also have a PS3 fatty that plays PS2 games.

I tried to install Playonline using my ISP settings, but it never connects. I suspect that when a PS2 game is active in the PS3, the wifi is no longer active. So I'm guessing I can't connect fully install it without ethernet directly connecting my system.

Now for my stupid gaming question: Is there a fix for this, a way for my wifi to work with the game running, or is there some other issue I'm just not understanding as to why this isn't working?

Honestly, I don't think that the level design of the first three really holds up to todays platformers. They are all beautiful, though. I say go with "Returns."

Are enloops still the goto rechargeable battery??? Hooked my Wii up to finish TP in preparation for SS. Went to grab some batteries for my wiimote only to find a single AA enloop from my previous stash of 8 (moved a few months back and haven't used my Wii since). Local Costco doesn't seem to carry them any more either :(

The first one. Amazing graphics, level design and music. Especially when you get to the snowy levels. After that, play DKC2, which is also incredible, then hop onto the one for Wii.

Why is it that I remember playing Live A Live incredibly clearly when I was a kid, even though it was never released in NA? Was there another game similar enough that memories could warp it into Live A Live? I most strongly remember the final chapter during which you choose your main character from the other chapters and then gather the other six.

Did Naughty Dog ever fix the freezing glitch in Uncharted 2 around chapter 23? Or is there a workaround besides hoping for the best? I think I've had it 4 out of 5 times and it happened last night as well. I remember it being fairly widespread on gaf.

I'll ask again. Is there a game in existence that lets you fire a volley of arrows toward a faraway target?
Diablo like let you play with arrow and spells that can produce similar effect? Try Diablo 3 or Torchlight
