This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Your son means "Soul Silver." It's the same game but with different Pokemon to obtain. Action Replay lets you generate any Pokemon into the game's storage system, duplicate items, manipulate levels of your team, etc. I have no clue if it's 3DS-compatible, but until I'm proven otherwise I'll say "no."

As for other Pokemon games, there are Black/White. And if he wants to try something different, get him one of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. They're roguelikes with a Pokemon coat of paint.

don't forget about Pokemon Platinum, either, if he hasn't played it. it's an entirely different game (if he hasn't played Pokemon Diamond/Pearl)

Are there any games that take a character's actions into consideration to alter dialog that's spoken while carrying out those actions? For example, let's say that a character happens to be saying something to another character whom he happens to be sparring with. Mid-sentence, he swing his sword, and his exertion causes the dialog to sound more strained. Have any games actually pulled anything like this off, and - if so - could anyone explain how it was done (or how it might be handled if someone attempted to do it)?

Red Dead Redemption on the xbox 360 - Why is the voice volume so low during gameplay, but high during "cut scenes"? I can barely make out the chatter, so I crank it up, but the cut scenes are very loud in comparison.
Using a logitech z-5500, optical connection.

Posted this somewhere else too but no responses so far. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Having internet problems. For some reason certain websites won't load all of the sudden and my friends can't join my Xbox Live parties. I was going to reset my NAT but the http://192.168.0.1 won't even load. Any suggestions?

took WW's advice, gonna try this over here:

so, a friend & i are gonna do a podcast for another site, and all ive got is 2 rock band mics and a USB hub. we're gonna do this local, from one PC - what's a good & easy program to record with? in the past, a friend tried a setup with audacity but had problems syncing, dont recall what went wrong but im trying to avoid that.

I'm playing through Saint's Row 2, and I picked up the Ultor Exposed pack when it was cheap a little while back.

Trouble is, now I have two distinct Ultor missions on my map, and I'm not sure what I should do if I want to save the expansion for after I've finished the main storyline.

Spoilers going into a little more detail

* There's one outside the Saint's hideout
* There's one - which I think I triggered by phoning Dex - which is by the church which was the base in SR1.

I'm not sure if I should be doing *either* of these yet (both have a feeling of finality - or build-up to finality to them), and on top of that I'm not sure which corresponds to the DLC and which to the main-game storyline.

Any help?

I don't really play PC games so I don't know how a lot of shit works but I recently installed The Passing DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 and now anytime I play the game, there are FPS, LERP, PING and some other counters shown on the lower-right corner of the game screen. Anyone know how the remove them? Thanks.

Aight, this is driving me crazy. I just bought one of those new wired Xbox 360 controllers for gaming on the PC. The fucking thing won't stop blinking, it works but it just keeps blinking. I already searched on Google but the results haven't helped at all. Already removed and reinstalled the drivers which I downloaded from Microsoft's site. Does anybody have a fix for this?

Is it working, beside blinking? For me, it blinks before it is initialized; once initialized it stops blinking. I had a problem when I bought it as there was a conflict between it and the motioninjoy driver.

edit: I don't know if it has been fixed, but at the time, the uninstaller for motioninjoy was not uninstalling the driver.

Didn't really know where to post this and don't have rights for a new thread so it's going here.

Does anyone know any video game composers that came from a background of SUCCESS in TV/Movie composing? No scrubs, credible ones.

Barrington Pheloung do the trick? Established TV composer, also composed for the Broken Sword titles.

Also, kinda, John Carpenter; did the soundtrack for Sentinel Returns. He's not *just* a composer, though!

Bear McCreary? He scored (amongst other things) Battlestar Galactica, then went onto do the soundtracks for SOCOM 4 and Dark Void.

I want that!

Managed to find it on PSN after doing a bit more online searching. It's called "Season's Greetings" and is 3 bucks. Couldn't find it before because I was searching terms christmas and holiday.

Those are good, but not quite. Good answers though. And I guess they don't really have to be from TV or movies, just a famous composer.

Pay attention to the disturbing, creepy atmosphere.

I got hooked on that game again, just this summer!

How do you fix a wireless xbox 360 controller/what's wrong with my controller.

It's weird , at the moment it only rumbles like crazy when I put the battery pack in 0_o

Is there such a thing as a decent stereo headset made for consoles? Astros are out of my price range and Turtle Beach stuff sounds like it's made out of glass and wired with fudge.

My SNES and Nintendo64 (both PAL) look like shite on my hdtv, what cables would you recommend? (I got a Scart and RGB Scart if I'm not mistaken but both end up not working, sound but no picture)

Or would it be wiser to use a vga box of some sort?

Are there any videos of a Kingdom Hearts game being emulated in HD and 60fps? I think that would look amazing. Or any last gen games in HD would be sweet.

N64 isn't RGB compatible unfortunately :/

However, with a few hardware modifications (soldering), you can make some of the older N64s RGB compatible. Some guys used to charge like 20€ to do the modification, a few years ago.

It is possible to mod an N64 to support RGB Scart
http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/rgbn64.htm

Be warned though that it only works on the very earliest NTSC models (doesn't work on any PAL console) and there's no way to tell if your console is compatible or not until you open it up...

Hm, don't have a soldering iron nor the experience to do it. Might ask a friend... Any idea on the SNES?

Someone just emailed me this. I do not know the source.

How accurate is it?

So I completed Portal 2 for PS3, and I was going to give my friend the Steam copy that came with it. I logged in to his Steam account on my PS3, but when he tried to redeem the activation code on Steam, it said the code had already been used to activate the game. I bought this game new from Target. How is this possible? What can I do?

Tried asking in Steam thread twice but got no reply...

Can anyone confirm if you get extra giftable copies when you buy the Super Meat Boy bundle? Team Meat says yes, Steam checkout says no, there's conflicting reports online and Steam support hasn't answered me.

Anyone knows the composer of the soundtrack for the Megaman and Megaman X series?

Found this on Wikipedia
Ascertaining the identity of videogame composers, especially prior to the fifth generation of consoles, can be difficult, as the composers were often uncredited or credited under a pseudonym. NesDev gives the following musical credits (extracted from ROM images for the Classic series):

Mega Man: C. Manami & Yuukichan's Papa
Mega Man 2: Manami, Ogeretsu, Ietel, and Yuukichan's Papa
Mega Man 3: "BUNBUN"
Mega Man 4: "OJALIN" & Bun Bun
Mega Man 5: Mari Yamaguchi
Mega Man 6: Yuko Takehara

The following credits were taken directly from the game credits:

Mega Man 7: T."ANIE".N, YUK, KRSK, V-TOMOZOH, KAN, APPLE Z, MORE RICH, NARINARI, IPPO
