Why does money fly out of soldiers, when they're shot in Modern Warfare Multiplayer?

Was reminded about it, when i watched the trailer today for that Call of Duty online game, coming to China.

In Fallout New Vegas, what is the maximum amount of perks (during level up stage) you can get including the perk exploit?

This is assuming I have all the DLC.

Are the special stages in Sonic 2 actually ridiculously hard or am I just terrible at videogames?

The ones in Sonic 1 are pretty damn hard.
Sonic 2's just requires decent memorization. Practice more. 19-65-9-17 and start on the bonus stage so you can get the first one out of the way before starting Emerald Hill.

Isn't that the Payback bonus for killing someone who has already killed you?

Personally I never found the special stages in Sonic 1 to be particularly hard, but the ones in Sonic 2? Yeah, fuck 'em. I've never been able to get more than two emeralds tops in Sonic 2.

Is there a way to clean PS1 discs (i.e. fingerprints) without scratching the discs up?

Even microfiber cloths, applying next to no pressure (not enough to even get finger prints off anyway), scratch up PS1 discs.

Try different cloths? I always used a plain terrycloth towel and never had a single issue with scratches.

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a PSP at the moment.
Some questions:

Difference in functionality between E1004 and 3004 is mainly missing tv out and wifi on the former, right?

If so: Do the 3004 owners here use the tv out much? Is it worth the substantial difference in price?

How about battery life comparison between the two?

And - a pretty important point for me - is one of them better playable out in direct sunlight? Want to use my balcony some more :)

The 3000 model has twice as much RAM, a faster processor and much nicer screen. None of the PSP models will work well in direct sunlight. Since you don't own any UMDs you might want to consider getting a PS Vita instead. Most games are available as digital downloads and the second analog stick makes some games a lot more enjoyable. I've never used the TV out feature myself, but I know it's essential for people who're into streaming their playthroughs with other people.

What games are you considering picking up?

Edit: I forgot about answering one question. The 1000 and 3000 models have about the same battery life. If you play PSP games on a PSV you can get up towards twice as many hours.

Thanks for your answer :)

I'm living in Germany. Don't know how the PSN account stuff works - would I be allowed to download games that were never released in Europe?

Particularly interested in RPGs, so tales, star ocean, valkyria, Ys..

The PSV is region free, but you can only have one region activated at a time. If you want to buy games from the US you can order PSN store cards online instead of using a debit/credit card.

A lot of good RPGs can be found on the PSN store for cheap these days. The RPGs below are available directly from a European Vita. If you own a PS3, there are more games you can buy on it and then transfer over.
  • Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos - €14.99

wow, great list! thanks for the effort put into it

considering a vita with an US psn account now. heard very good things about jeanne d'arc and want to play the star oceans, so an EU account is out of question.

Quick clarification: these didn't make it to Europe on PSN. They do exist on UMD. That means that you could play them on a PSP, but not a Vita.

I wouldn't argue it as a particularly great loss, but if you're particularly fond of the series...

It's also worth highlighting that the PS1 FFs are on sale now too, and *should* work on the Vita in a few months.

Edit: Actually, I'm not sure the Star Ocean titles are on PSN in any region. Trying to verify Jeanne d'Arc

Edit2: Looks like Jeanne d'Arc has... complexities. I've only scanned the details, but as far as I can determine it will run on a Vita, but it's not officially compatible so you can't *buy* it on a Vita. I *think* what people are doing is purchasing it on a PS3 and then transferring it to a Vita, maybe? If that's right, it'd require a PS3... and a US PSN account on that PS3.

Edit3: One thing I ought to bring up, before I make things too complicated for you: If I remember right, Vita PSN accounts are locked to the memory cards, not to the system; I believe you can change accounts by changing cards? (Can someone confirm? I recall a hoo-hah about it a few months back). If my recollection is correct, at least through purchasing a Vita you're not completely locked to a single region.

Sorry about that. I just remembered that I imported the Star Ocean games because I prefer the North American box art. I also agree with mclem in that they're not very good.

What full PSP games only got released on PSN?
Patapon 2 (US), Corpse Party, What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 1/2, Unchained Blades, Cladun: This is an RPG, Cladun X2, anything else?

In Europe, most Ghostlight stuff only got a PSN release, I think. At least, I don't ever recall seeing the Persona titles in shops (for instance).

They are basically just CDs, yes?

If so I would wet a portion of a microfibre cloth with clean water and wipe the disc from the hole to the exterior in single straight lines. Then use a dry portion of cloth with the same motions to dry it.

more a fan of the battle system than the series itself. would prefer tales games but yeah.. even living in the US wouldn't benefit that greatly. at least the star oceans were translated.

great help by all of you guys, much appreciated :)

leaning towards buying a 3004 now, getting through all the games available for it (which will take me a good while) and then possibly upgrading to a vita, depending on the games available for it by that time

That seems like a good idea Verve. If you didn't play the PS1 versions, I really recommend Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep are not coming to the PSN so you might want to track down the UMD versions of those, if they look interesting to you.

I have 400 Microsoft points on XBL and I need something to spend them on. Anyone know anything worthwhile for that amount?

That's what I used to do until I noticed it does leave scratches. The black glossy surface of PS1 discs makes them scratch easily (or rather makes any scratch visible). Most people would not even notice the scratches. I only noticed when I put my games under a UV light to make sure none of them were ever resurfaced. I'm honestly not even super picky about my disc condition, but I'd rather find a way to clean the discs without leaving any micro scratches.

I was hoping there was some sort of Ps1 disc cleaning technique or chemical out there someone could recommend that would break up the fingerprints oil so that I could literally just wipe (no pressure at all) with a cloth and the marks would lift off.

In Marvel Ultimate Alliance what are the purpose of the "Vs." Comic missions? The ones at the very bottom of the listing and don't have any awards. Are they just for leveling up or what?

What I used to do for removing fingerprints from PS1 discs was to put some lukewarm water on a saucer, and put some dishwashing liquid in the water, before putting the disc in the water with the readable side down. Then I'd let the disc rest for ~5-10 minutes or so, before using running water (cold or lukewarm) to wash away what dishwashing liquid that may still be stuck on the disc, and then let the disc lean against a flat, vertical surface (e.g. a wall) until it was dry.

What caused developers to make games "easier" with using regenerative health?

Probably the success of Halo (although the original Halo didn't strictly have health regen, only energy shield regen), and a desire to increase the mass market appeal. The concept of regenerating health wasn't introduced by Halo though, it appeared way back in the 80s with games like Hydlide and Ys.

Ape Quest & Hot Shot Shorties, forgot about these. More?

Edit: EchoChrome (US) & EchoShift (US).

What two players are in the final of SSFIV on EVO 2012?

Had to ask the qustion here as the official thread moves way to fast.

The Wii U will almost certainly not play Blu-ray, although its games will use a similar proprietary format.

Just like Wii with DVDs.

Question about Playstation +. When a game is free, can I just buy it, but not download it yet and download it after the game is not free anymore? Like am I ok as long as there is the red "Purchased" Psn icon on the game image? (While being a + member of course.)

Damn bandwidth cap in Canada...

Thanks!

Yep. :) Once you have "purchased" it, you will be able to download it as long as your PS+ subscription is still active.

Once downloaded, the games are yours to keep and play as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus. If your subscription lapses and then you re-subscribe, the games you have already downloaded will reactivate, so you still have access to them. Additionally, if you delete one of the titles from your PS3, but decide you want to get it back, then you can re-download from the PlayStation Plus section of the PSN Store if the game is still there, or, if the game has expired from the PlayStation Plus section of the PSN Store, you can simply search for it on PS Store and download it again at no extra cost.

Oh :( sorry about that. Hope you come up with a better solution.

That sounds like a more gentle method. I suppose you could put a microfibre cloth in the liquid so the disc rests on that to prevent any scratches from the disc contacting the saucer?

Yeah, that should work too, but if you're careful and don't rub the disk all over the saucer like you're trying to scrub the saucer, I don't think it'd be likely that the saucer would scratch the disk :lol

Agreed :) but our friend with the issue seems to be trying to avoid any scratches at all, however minor, so I was just suggesting something in case they were worried about contact between the disc and the saucer :).

I shall certainly use your method the next time I need to clean a disc anyway :D.

What caused developers to make games "easier" with using regenerative health?

There's a few design problems which need to be taken into account with health pickups
* There's an issue in that optimal play can result in trekking back over empty content to collect a medkit you 'saved' five minutes ago; tedious for the player.
* Balance varies greatly when trying to structure an encounter; obviously you need to structure the fight to be beatable with 100% health, but then a player willing to go back and collect old medkits could potentially have 150%-200% health available to work with.
* There's going to be a situation where the player is - potentially - stuck on 10% health with no idea where the next medkit is going to come from. There is an issue with indecision at this point; should the player press on until they find another medkit in a high-risk environment (which may even be impossible if there's a point where you *can't* avoid damage), or reload a save and redo the fight that sent them to 10% in the first place?

One issue I've often noticed in games is that if there's something tedious to do which nevertheless confers an advantage, players will be very tempted to do them anyway; making the game less enjoyable. See the people who swapped *every* character in on fights in FFX to maximise experience gain; see the players who complain about grinding in games where working out a better tactic in the first place would be equally effective; see the raiders in WoW who felt obligated to play every max-level raid available each week in order to maximise their gear intake.

Regenerative health requires different balance; you can't just sub the concept in to Doom and expect it to work. Instead, you need a setup where only a few seconds of concentrated fire is sufficient to take down a player.

Should controls in video games always be 1:1 with your input? Is there a time/place for controls that have lag or are slowed because of character physics (e.g. getting hit and falling down dynamically before being able to get up)?

I assume it's both a mouth *and* a wheel. The gap's necessary to fit the structure of the mouth, but the shape is intended to evoke a wheel.

It's a bit like Miss Saigon's cantonese character / face / helicopter.

This blew my mind just now.

Has there been no info on Assassins' Creed Liberations? None at all?
There hasn't been any more news since the original reveal at E3 and what was covered in Game Informer.

What we know so far:
• It's out same day as AC3 (October 30th).
• Location is New Orleans.
• Female assassin named Aveline.
• Looks like same time period as AC3.
• Ubisoft Sofia is developing it.
• Takes place during 1765-1780 in the period between the end of the French and Indian war.
• One of the bullet points is that it's "true AC gameplay".
• Will not connect to Desmond.
• Will have "multiplayer specifically tailored to the vita experience".
• "The game has been released as a propaganda tool by Abstergo, who want players to experience a gray area of the Assassin/Templar conflict as an assassin rather than a templar".
• Aveline's mentor is an escaped slave named Agate, leader of the assassins in New Orleans.
• Wildlife like alligators "wait on the banks of the swamp or hide beneath murky waters".
• Liberation will also take players across the Gulf into Mexico".
• Game will take place in "Large gameplay areas, you can run, climb, fight, and explore the entirety of New Orleans without loading a new area."
• Seems Aveline and Connor will meet in Liberation.
• Use front and rear touch controls to pick pocket.
• Someone else is using the Animus.
• New weapons include a sugarcane machete, pistols, muskets, grenades
• The female assassin is of mixed heritage French/black.

Hey GAF (specially WoWGAF), can someone tell me exactly what is this and if there's a way for me to know if it's still valid? I know practically nothing about WoW and I was surprised when my mother found this in her closet yesterday. Apparently, I got it a few years ago and told my mother to "get rid of it" but she kept it in case it was useful. About it's origin, the only explanation I can think of is that it came with a NVIDIA video card I purchased in 2008, because I'd never buy anything MMO related.

So, is this thing still valid? If so, is this a subscription or what? And how long does it last? (I searched a little and it seems they are either 30 or 60 days but I'm not sure).
It's a CD in a little cardboard-like package, like that of Wii Sports. The white sticker says "World of Warcraft Authentication Key Standard Edition - US" and then a 26 digit code. And apparently the CD doesn't have any key of sorts.

Thanks in advance.
