This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I feel like in video games you always see dumpsters in an alley sideways up against the wall of the building. Does this happen in real life? How does the garbagetruck get it out of there?
Hm, the ones you can't get to with the truck probably have wheels. Dunno. BUT: I found out that dumpster is one of those genericized brand names, like kleenex.

Is there a way to stream PC games on sites like justin.tv/twitch.tv?
Not sure I understand the question (because most people stream nothing but PC games there), but have a look at this:

I made a thread for this but no one replied, so ill ask here.

I picked up a 5.1 surround sound system for the Mrs Christmas present, but am not sure how to connect it to her Xbox.

Can I have HDMI going to the tv for the picture and just use the optical out on the 360 for the audio?
Or will the HDMI steal the audio?

Is Martial Arts only/mostly a legitimate (or plausible) method for getting through Alpha Protocol?

I've been doing great with it so far, but I'm only on the first major mission. I'm wondering if it will screw me greatly come endgame.

There's a particular boos you're going to hate. He's really dangerous up close, so...

Should I play one of the many games released this year that I have and haven't finished (including Sleeping Dogs, Dragon's Dogma, Assassins Creed 3 and XCOM), or just go and replay Metroid Prime?

We got a lovely new 3DS XL from Best Buy last weekend. While retrieving it from the display case, the sales guy told me that power surges can destroy the battery, and (to his recollection) the only way to replace a dead one was direct from Nintendo at $90 a pop. UNLESS, of course, I pay extra for their Purchase Protection etc.

I said I'd take my chances and didn't get any protection. But I'm curious, is what he described a real thing? I'd imagine that they pick situations which are uncommon but scary-sounding.

Sounds like BS to me.

Edit: Power surges can happen, but no more likely to happen to your 3DS XL than anything else you might have plugged into a wall socket when an electrical storm or other surges hit. If you're worried, charge it using a surge protected board.

They'll say anything so that you buy their protection plan.

I wouldn't worry about it, it's not a well-known case so I don't think it's as prevalent (or as possible) as the guy implied.

Does Ocarina of Time have different endings depending on whether or not you collected everything? Cause I was kinda hoping not to try for all 100 Gold Skulltulas.

Ocarina of Time only has one ending and It doesn't change depending on how many sidequest or collectables you have obtained. Majoras Mask on the other hand adds something new in the ending depending on the sidequest you have completed.

My PS3 browser frequently crashes (freezes my PS3 forcing me to hard reset, which elicits the "three beep" error code) when viewing Shoryuken.com and Youtube, among other plug-in heavy websites. A few times after reseting, my PS3 presented a message along the lines of "System File may have been corrupted. Continue to check system file and restore if necessary." It has not been corrupted, but I'm worried I cannot continue using the PS3 internet browser. Firmware is up to date. Any thoughts what might be causing this problem?

Why do 8 and 16 bit games look better on older CRT televisions as opposed to newer flatscreens?

CRT technology can display any supported resolution without distorting the image. LCD scales the image to match the native resolution and this reduces the quality of the image.

The higher resolution screen show the outdated graphics with sharp jagged edges.

Low resolution + scanlines help blur the image and makes it more appealing.

Anyone got an idea where I can get free/cheap 3D glasses (the cheap plastic ones used in movie theaters)? I need two so I can do the same screen splitscreen thing, I was thinking of just going to a movie theater and scouring for them. But not sure if you can just ask for them at the front... anyone got an idea?

Some movie theaters simply sell them for cheap ($2 at mine, you keep them and only pay for them once), even if they're quite bad. I even bought a couple of them for teaching (that's two polaroid glasses behind a quater-wavelength plate, which is pretty interesting when you study light polarization). I'd say you can ask for them, and with a bit of luck...

As for buying them cheap online, you can use Amazon for example. Search for RealD 3D glasses, you can find some as cheap as $0.48 (noname), or pack of 4 (more official) for $9.

That being said, I assume you're talking about passive 3D glasses that are found in theaters. I don't understand how you want to use them, though, especially for splitscreen purposes...

My turn, and probably a tricky one.

I begun Disgaea 4. It started with my console language, but I prefer playing it in english, so I had to swapp the PS3 system language (quite stupid if you ask me). Everything in-game turned into english, except the things gererated BEFORE the language setting change.

That's the case for some items (but I don't mind, I'll get rid of them), but what bothers me more is that the classes for characters is in the wrong language.

For human/monster characters, I can use reincarnation, but I tried it on unique characters (the ones with special classes, like the main character), and it failed, it's still not in english.

Do you know a way to change the language for the class? Will those be reset on New game plus? Or am I stuck forever with two languages if I don't want to start again from scratch?

The strange thing is that if I encounter (and recruit) a NEW member (like the one that appear at the end of chapter 3), the class name is not in english, even if the settings was already switched to english. Unique characters seems to be generated at the beginning of the game.

Oh thank you! I'll go ask the theater nearby. But yea, if you have a 3DTV there is an option to put a splitscreen image (horizontal or vertical) on top of each other, so one image is displayed in the horizontal lines and the other in the vertical. So if you take 2 3D glasses, trade the left eye in one for the right eye in the other, you then have a pair that can only see vertical lines and a pair that can only see horizontal lines; thus seeing two separate images on a fullscreen display.

Here's a video illustrating it:

Now to only find a theater that'll give me some glasses... I went to see the hobbit, but the theater I went to used shutter controlled glasses, not the cheapo plastic ones... what!?

Is there any places that sell Gameboy Color backlights or people that will do the job for you? Also, are there non solder ways of doing it? Thanks.

Edit: damn, I mixed color and pocket. I'll leave the original post if some people are interested in adding backlight to GB Pocket.

I don't have an easy solution for GB Color, unfortunately, except a tutorial on instructable to build a backlight GB Color using a spare GB SP... Not sure if it'll fits your needs, though.

_______

Maybe look at this, that was in my bookmarks... It's frontlight, but you can't have backlight on GBC without changing the screen. There's a video for installation, seems quite simple to do.

Warning: I don't know the shop...

(I'm on fire tonight. Anyone for my Disgaea 4 "problem"? T_T )

The internal speakers in my TV are horseshit. I was thinking of plugging in my nice PC speakers to it, but I'm worried the subwoofer being near my PS3/Wii U might damage them? I'm not really sure but I thought having subwoofers near things with hard drives in them would fuck them up. The subwoofer would theoretically be 1.5-2 feet away, if that helps at all.

Would I be safe placing my subwoofer there or should I just deal with the shitty internal speakers?
