I have three stupid questions right now (but I can do better, I'm good for stupid).

1/ Is there a video game site that does a good job at listing future release dates ?
Gamekult (french) had a good section about it but recently redesigned it and throw every good things (EU/US/JAP dates for example) down the drain.
Gamespot seems really poor and IGN, well I must go check it, last time it wasn't exceptional.
With the amount of dates thrown recently, I need a site which does its fucking job...

2/ Let's say I live in europe and want to import a 3DS. What is my best option ?
- Amazon third party sellers have good prices but international shipping is not a given (on some models it is a no-go, on others it isn't specified).
- Playasia is outrageously funny in their vision of pricing.
- Videogamesplus is pricier than Amazon but well respected. Problem is I would like to avoid a long transit even if it means paying more, and VG+ doesn't mention an express service option as far as I can tell

3/ And a last one, very stupid but better safe than sorry : 3DS sold in Canada are indeed 100% like the US ones ?

Three quick Wii U questions from someone who just decided to buy one:

Is there any reason to buy a Pro Controller if I still have a Wii Classic Controller Pro? Are they different in any way, does the CCP work with Wii U games etc. I am getting the system for Monster Hunter...I originally bought the CCP for MH Tri. And only ever used it for that. There's a Zombi U bundle out here in Canada now that comes with the game and a pro controller, so either way I might end up with one.

Second, I read there's a headphone port on the gamepad. This is for game audio as well as voice chat etc right? I can play MH with my headphones via this and chat with people with the gamepad mic? I heard the Wii U doesn't have an optical out which kind of baffled me, but I've already got my 360 taking up the optical in on my headphone amp anyways. So if I can just plug some headphones into the gamepad that's fine.

Finally can I put my Tri save from my old Wii onto the Wii U's memory? My old Wii is pretty busted and I wouldn't mind playing a bit of my old save since I still have Tri lying around. From what I understand I can't import anything from it to Tri Ultimate anyways so no big deal.

DS never had an eShop, DSi did but the games were small. 3DS has its own eShop along with all (most???) DSi eShop games/apps. The 3DS eShop has 3DS retail games and indie games.

Some questions I dread asking about my launch PS3 - it was a 60GB model; it suffered from overheating early on and failed, I sent it in and Sony replaced it (years ago). When it came back, I put in a 300GB hard drive.

Ever since then, the replacement console has worked fine, though the hard drive has always made a loud noise on startup.

A few weeks ago, playing the MGS:R demo (from the ZoE HD release), the game would stutter in cutscenes. (I have another PS3 in another room that does not have this problem.)

This weekend I decided to download several games previously purchased on PSN. I queued the downloads and left them to run.

Later, when I came back, it still wasn't done. The final game was still downloading - or so it said, though it was no longer increasing in file size. When I tried to install the games that had downloaded, bad things started happening. For the first, it took ages to reach the 1% point on the install - a few percentage points later, the download failed. I tried a few others, most of them failed immediately. One or two would start the install, then fail. One or two small PS1 games installed correctly.

Anyone ever seen behavior like this? I am wondering if the hard drive is failing, but don't want to go through the hassle & expense of replacing the hard drive only to find out it's something more fundamental that's wrong.

Lately, I have been getting an error (80029564) when attempting to install downloaded games. The games download 100% then fail between 10-14% during the install. Restarting my router before downloading games has "solved" this issue (the games install but I do not know what problem I have corrected), though this method failed to work when attempting to download the MGR demo (3.4GB is quite large).

I can only suggest downloading games one at a time and restarting your router before you do (this is assuming you have your console wirelessly connected to the internet).

I expect quality, i expect game to look good as well but the extremeness of it and the only judgement category for the games seem so sad. I personally can't pick a difference between anything. I do know that there are people who are very sensitive about the graphics.

I do fear that industry as whole is placing too much emphasis on graphics but not on game play. The budget will keep getting higher and will lead to game studio closer if one game flops. Check out some of the examples. I do know that team of 3 can create amazing games as well but this is not about that.

Affordability is not someone thinks about when it comes to gaming. If you are first world country you are set probably but what about the rest of the world. Gaming as whole if needs to be famous it needs to be affordable. PC is not the answer the reason it is expensive as well and the primary purpose of most of the affordable pc in developing nation is not gaming plus piracy like it or not is the biggest on PC.

I am not against big budget gaming. I am not against improving.

I am against graphics being primary and most of the time only thing important for game industry as whole. If the game looks good and does the same thing that other game that looked good as well what is the benefit? indie games are great hope we will get more of them.

People will attack saying so should we stop expecting better things? should game stop progressing? No is the answer. The graphic whorism is what is wrong and I wanted to speak out against.

Gaming needs to back to its root. It needs to be affordable. It needs to be accessible and simple at a same time.I am not against hardcore gamer or something. There are plenty of smaller teams that make beautiful games on a low budget and it doesn't matter how much money you throw at a project that has poor art to begin with.

This is just flat out wrong. There are plenty of PC games that doesn't require powerful and expensive components. Take a look at Good Old Games if you want to play amazing games and don't care about having the latest graphics. Also new popular games like The Binding of Isaac, FTL: Faster than Light, and Minecraft run fine on old machines.

Are you still a Wii only gamer? I think you would discover that there are plenty of creative games on other platforms if you just gave them a chance.

I'm sure they will move on to something else once we learn more about the next-gen consoles. I'm not a big fan of the Uncharted series myself. You should try some of the smaller PSN games. Flower, Super Stardust HD, and Pixeljunk Eden look amazing and their budgets are tiny compared to AAA titles. That's what I like about having really powerful hardware. With easy-to-use engines like Unity even single person projects can be impressive-looking by just utilizing all the built-in features.

I want to cheat with F-Zero: Maximum Velocity on the GBA via the 3DS Ambassador games to unlock the hidden tracks.

I have found a code listed on numerous sites that says to push B, L, B, A, R, B(2), A(2) at the title screen.

For the life of me, I cannot get it to work; does anyone have any ideas? Surely cheat codes should still apply to the ambassador games, as they are straight rom dumps. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

However I have not played any Assassin's before so I have the dilemma of do I go back and start from the beginning to get the full story or is it ok to skip them and just jump straight into 3?

Another example is The Witcher 2. Another game I have been wanting to play for some time. Again, I have not played number 1. I feel like in these situations I have to play them from the beginning to get the story. This causes me to just continuously put them off until I have lots of time.

It is absolutely worth it to play 2/Brotherhood/Revelations before 3, if only because they're amazing games. AC3 is a serviceable game that is unfortunately buggy as hell.

I'm also a stickler for playing series in order, as it happens.

AC's an interesting situation. There's four viable start points, as far as I can see... which is impressive, given that there's only five games in the series.

Starting with AC3... I wouldn't advise. There's an arching plot covering all games that you'd be jumping in at the tail end of. While people have different opinions over whether that plot is particularly worthwhile, it's worth mentioning that there's lots of allusions and references to previous titles in the series; it really does feel like a climax that pulls lots of previous parts of the storyline together, and jumping in at that point, you're not going to get that effect.

What about going all the way to the other end, with AC1? You get some nice buildup of mystery - and of course you get the entire story from the beginning - although in terms of the arc story, the events are largely scene-setting. But there's a very big issue: AC1 isn't actually a particularly enjoyable game. Now, I need to shower that in caveats; there are some people who adore it and swear by it, particularly playing it deliberately without the HUD (which is certainly doable, although it requires some suspension if disbelief for just how Altair gets some information if the HUD isn't available!) - but for me, the game is weak and repetitive... although *despite* the repetitiveness, I feel obliged to point out that I was still compelled to 1000/1000 it; I *liked* it despite the tedium, oddly!

So if you don't go for the beginning or the end, you've gotta go somewhere in the middle, right? AC2 is *tons* better than the first, for me. The protaganist was likable, the game had a reasonable variety of actions, the arc storyline kicks into gear. In gameplay terms, it's a great jumping-in point. In story terms, it's a great jumping in point. In short, it's a great jumping-in point... except for the fact that there are one or two little plot moments that are actually unexpected and will mean a whole lot more to you if you've played the first game. Playing 2 without playing 1 misses out on those little bits of nuance.

The final possible jump-in point I'd suggest is Brotherhood, although there's a caveat; it's a bad place to jump in for story. Lots of things won't make sense, there's - again - a couple of nice things which you won't appreciate if you haven't played 2. Why's it a valid jumping-in point, then? Because I think it's got the best *gameplay* of the entire series so far. A restrained level of scale, a huge variety of things to do, the polish from the previous titles - and of course the introduction of the multiplayer component, which I rather enjoyed even though I'm not much of a multiplayer kind of guy.


So, yes, there's four options. Revelations is out; not a good jumping-in place for the story and the gameplay isn't quite up to the earlier titles. To help you narrow it down further, I'd say to play AC1 if you can do it in a controlled fashion so you don't get narked by the repetitiveness - it'll help to not be achievement-obsessive in that regard! If you do the bare minimum it won't be quite as painful. If you think that you won't like doing it that way, then I'd suggest going from AC2.

As I said, I do. From me it's not just a plot thing, though, but also an academic interest in the way a given game series evolves over time (hence why I've even been a stickler for the mainline FF titles!)

i have posted this query in the steam thread but thought here might be also a good place to go

so steam is infuriating me, team fortress 2 specifically

everytime i launch steam or tf2 it pops up a little window saying validating cache files,

once the progress bar reaches 100% the window does not go away

i've tried defragmenting the cache files this window does the same

i have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game however this only stops the problem for a short while

would really welcome any advice you can throw my way

borderlands 2 is exactly that its more borderlands

whilst far cry 3, damn dunno where to start, its pretty awesome, other than the free roaming aspect and the solid shooting and stealth, it does some really interesting things with your perception of what is going on in the world, whether you can trust what you see or not, mainly because of hallucinogens, i even remember being unsure of whether or not i had killed a specific character for about an hour afterwards

there is also a very cool dances with wolves, the beach and apocalypse now kind of vibe

yeah some of the boss character fights are patchy and the last quarter loses it a bit, but man when that game is good its incredible, which the majority of it is

also its ten dollars cheaper

i personally didn't touch much of the multiplayer so i'm not sure, onyl looked at the coop which is fine i guess, i didn't check the competitive,

to be honest, i'm not a massive fan of multiplayer in general, on occasion but i get burnt out quite fast and i was playing the crysis 3 beta at the time, so i'm probably not the best person to ask
