This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Wonderful! Thanks, guys!

You know, Minecraft NOT on peaceful mode is still one of the most relaxing experiences I know. Sure, there are monsters at night, but you can choose what to do. If you're adventurous, sure, you can go spelunking. But if you aren't, you can just stay at home and craft some nifty things.

You know those relaxation exercises where you're supposed to tense your whole body up for 30 seconds, then release? I think Minecraft is something like that. After all, when it gets dark, you can just go inside. It's the care we take to create a safe environment that really makes us relax, in this game, I think.

Oh, trust me, I know. I've been a fan of Minecraft since Alpha. Could you suggest some mods, however, that could add an extra layer of atmosphere and relaxation? Maybe something to make the game look a little better? I don't know of any good mods, but something like more ambient noises, dynamic weather, and stuff like that would be cool.

In Demon's Souls you constantly see messages with very high ratings: 300, 700, even 1000+. However that's not the case in the PC version of Dark Souls. I don't think I've seen a message with a rating of more than 3-5 outside on more than a couple of occasions, let alone anything near a hundred.

Is it like this in console versions of Dark Souls? Does this situation have to do with a smaller online population on PC or the fact that Dark Souls uses a P2P system?

Is there a thread for GAF's top games by system going back to at least the NES?
No. A while back some guys tried to make a few ranking threads, but it quickly got out of hand and suddenly there were a dozen of threads on the first page filled with nothing but lists. It could probably be done if we limited it to one thread a month.

Need some help GAF:

I have a very limited amount of games and no spendable money right now.

Here is a list of games that I currently have:
XBOX 360:

Banjo-Kazooie - 1/5 complete
Batman: AA - Completed, but currently on second playthrough
Borderlands: completed
Castle Crashers: never completed
Castlevania Harmony&Despair : Never started..
Castlevania SOTN: 1/4 complete
Dark Souls: Completed, I've been playing it a lot lately and so I'm a little bored with it...
Marvel v. Capcom 2 : never started
Minecraft: I started a HUGE project but it was overwhelming so I quit playing..
Scott Pilgrim The Game: never started
Shadow Complex: 20 minutes or so in..
TMNT 1989 Arcade : 10 min. in..
Torchlight: 1 1/2 Hours in...
Halo 4: Completed then sold, just borrowed from a friend but rediscovered how bad it was...

Today is my only day off and I've been trying to find something to do but I don't know a lot about any of these titles and I definitely do not know which one's are worth my time.

Anyway, are any of these games worth completing or completing again in another way?

Are there any games for the PC that are simply relaxing and don't require much thought processing? Something on the level of Animal Crossing in terms of relaxation.

Oh, and bonus points if the game has rain. Rain is amazing.
While it's not rain, snow is pretty relaxing and amazing. All you do is wander back and forth with your mouth open catching snowflakes on your tongue that trigger different musical notes. I've gotten lost in it for long stretches of time. It's pretty basic, but I think it's pretty fun.

I bought sim city using the normal origin account that I have on my PC, and chose Need for Speed as my free game. But I have played this before on my PS3 and wanted to log in to that origin account to get my progress moved over. But when I log in to that origin account it doesn't show the games any more.

So you can only play games you bought from origin when logged into that account? So no way for the rest of my family to play with their own saves for instance?

Just opened my copy of Assassin's Creed Revelations: Ottoman Edition. The code to gain all the downloadable content that comes in this edition, is there a date for it to be used by does anyone know?

Can you also unlock the content after you begin the game? Or does it have to be before?

Thanks.

In general, DLC codes do have expiration dates, so if you enter it and it says it's expired, simply call customer service and explain it. Unless there's a crazy circumstance surrounding it, they're likely to just give you a new code.

If it's anything like all other AC DLC, it can be unlocked whenever.

Is there a really good description/summary of Ever 17 out there? I'm tired of dancing around spoilers in 999/VLR threads, but the game can't be gotten for a reasonable price any more. I'm not looking for a script dump, just something that describes the events of the game and gives it a bit of context...

There is a good in-game explanation for Rorona's change in appearance and it's not a terrible fit for her character.
I could never fix her age issue, but I didn't unlock all the endings.

Edit: Oh, I had a question of my own. That's why I came here.

Whenever I turn on (or when it automatically turns off) my Wireless Xbox 360 controller for PC it messes with my volume settings. For some reason it reduces the volume for Spotify and VLC with about 80%. Is there anything I can do to make it leave my audio settings alone?

I think this might be the best place to ask this, but feel free to redirect me to the proper thread if it isn't.

I've recently took advantage of the promotional free The Walking Dead - Episode 1 on the EU PSN Store, and I really liked the game, so much so that I'm considering buying it. But I don't know which platform would be the best for it.

I'd prefer playing on my PS3, since my computer specs barely meet the minimum requirements (which seem a bit too high, I thought) and the whole "comfy couch" thing, but I wouldn't mind playing it on the PC that much. The thing is, the episode I played suffered from occasional 4 second freezes and slowdowns, and that really made the experience less enjoyable. Are those issues fixed on the latter episodes or on the PC version?

I haven't read much about the game, but I remember there also being problems with the savegames. Does anyone know if these issues are solved and/or more prevalent on either version? I don't mind playing Episode 1 again, but I don't want to worry about losing my savegames while playing the game.

The issue is still present in the PC version and, as far as I know, PS3 version never had it. To boot, I also had occasional stutters in the PC version (although, admittedly, I don't have an ultra powerful PC, but I play most multiplatform titles without any problems). Go PS3.

My previous gaming PC was pretty good and I experienced plenty of graphical issues with The Walking Dead games. They're simply not very good from a technical perspective. Another issue with the developer is that they don't do patches. They need to churn out new episodes for new series so if something isn't working they'll just shrug their shoulders and ignore their customers. For more fun reading, take a look in the "Is Walking Dead pc saves still broke?" thread.

It's still a great game and I recommend you get the PS3 version if your computer is old.

Thank you very much, guys! I'll get my hands on the PS3 version, in that case. I'm still a bit bummed out by the freezes and slowdowns, but they didn't hamper my experience that much.

This might be a little bit long but I didn't want to make a thread just for a personal issue. However if it should be moved to a thread I will.

I am trying to find an MMO to suit what I want and it's proving to be difficult, both in terms of finding out the right information or continually finding out that the MMO I gain some interest in does not suit what I want. I may even be better off looking at a standard RPG, hopefully you guys with more knowledge and experience can help me.

What I want:

-Interesting story
-Interesting quests and leveling. Something that innovates on the seemingly frequent "run to point B, collect 10 of x, return to point A, repeat"
-Variety of cosmetic changes
-Variety of skills/weapons/abilities
-Fun PvP

So far from what I have read Guild Wars 2 seems to be the best fit, but without a demo a few opinions from others are needed.

A friend plays WoW but although I can understand why they won't remove the subscription, I am against it. Plus the little I have played bored me to tears with the bland fetch quests.

Path of Exile looked very interesting, especially with the races. I thought it was something new and it looked exciting. Then I watched a stream and someone who came 2nd literally ran up and down a cliff ledge for ~45mins straight. If that's what is required to come anywhere respectable then no thank you.

I have tried Rift and whilst I did enjoy the art style and everything the questing was just far from interesting. The variety of skills and abilities was a bit limited also.

I am trying to find out more information about games such as Elder Scrolls Online but its too early to tell. Wildstar looks exceptional but not coming out anytime soon.

Any help is much appreciated. I understand I am being picky but I would like to get the most enjoyment possible.

What you're looking for is not typically found in MMO games, but I heard good things about Secret World and its innovative quests. Didn't play it myself though.

Can someone tell me what the hell is wrong with my PS3 controller?

Either one button or another keeps locking up and auto-pressing over and over.

It happens inconsistently so I don't know if the issue is something I can fix by messing with the actual buttons.

Try and blow compressed air in there or take it apart and clean it....sounds like something is in there.

Why does the 3DS have so much aliasing?

I mean, compare Luigi's Mansion to Luigi's Mansion 2. The 3DS should be on-par, if not better, than the gamecube, and yet it has way more jaggies.

And the textures/geometry aren't even on par, either.

Ok I have a question. I currently own the regular version of RE5 on PS3. If I went and bought the Gold version, would my save files from the regular version still work on the Gold version?

I actually have this problem with the Dead Space games. I love them but they're too damn scary for me so what I do is I listen to the Stern show or funny podcasts while playing so I'm not too immersed.

Think about something else while you play, that is, do not concentrate on what you are playing. Like, talk to someone as you play through a bit thats bad, or put some music on and listen to that, do something that breaks your immersion into the game.

Try it.

You could try playing during daytime. I mostly get scared late at night when it's completely dark and quiet.

Thank you guys for the responses!

The distraction could be the option from now on, I have to figure out how to be distracted and, at the same time, being aware of what it is going on the game.
I was thinking in having a look some light-horror games as well and then others scarier and scarier.

As to playing during daytime, there is a problem: I just can spend time to play video games at night because of my schedule. This suggestion is good on weekends or holidays so I will have to play a lot of horror games this week!

Yea you prob do not want to play a MMO.

Do games from Origin automatically download to the C drive? If so, is there any way around it? My C drive is a small SSD just big enough for my OS and little else.

Guys, halp please!

If I'm trying to give phone gaming a chance, would it be a stupid idea to go for an Android phone instead of an iPhone? Say, if iOS is a 10/10 library-wise where would you put Android?

I own an Android tablet, but I don't really fancy gaming on such huge devices. I own a Lumia and it's the best phone I've ever owned, but the game (and app in general) selection is pretty awful on WP. So I'm really struggling to decide if I should buy an iPhone or an Android phone... the thing is, Android is way more appealing to me and I can choose between many different phones, while iPhone is pretty boring in my eyes and way more expensive on top of that. I'm currently leaning towards Android but I fear once I move I'll be wishing I had access to the iOS app store...

Opinions would be appreciated! :/

I downloaded FF7 onto my PS3, it wants me to use Circle for confirm and X to cancel. That's craziness. Is there any way to change that?
