Thanks, Bananakin and weekend_warrior! Your rough calculations are infinitely superior to my non-calculations, so I appreciate it.

Some dollar charge just popped up on my credit card. It says AMAZON.COM *IMDB. I couldn't find any info on what it is. I haven't ordered anything from Amazon in awhile. Is it just Amazon making sure my info is valid?

Amazon owns IMDB, so maybe it's for some membership. Otherwise, it's a test and a bigger amount is going to be coming out, so you may have a little fraud going on.

I haven't ever paid for membership on IMDB so I'll watch for any other charges.

Anyone know how those ipod tape deck thingies work out?

These things right here.

Fantastically. I've been using one for well over a year, and have never had a problem with sound quality or anything else really.

can someone recommend me a good cheap hdmi cable for my ps3 and 360? amazon has a lot of them and they are selling them at stupidly cheap prices which makes me think they dont work properly

Quick question: Why doesn't iTunes recognize the tags of my MP3s half the time? When I'll try to upload two albums from the same group, one album appears correctly in my music library, the other one becomes "Unknown Album from Unknown Artist". Yet, the tags are supposed to be ok.

Anyone else get this problem?

To answer a previous question: I have no idea how mp3 player-to-tape deck thingies work, but they do.

HDMI cables either work or don't. You can buy the cheapest cable and get the same audio/visual quality as some of the most expensive.

I like getting my cables from Monoprice.com, incredibly cheap and come in a wide range of sizes.

First off, the tape wheels move only so the deck knows to keep playing it.

A normal cassette reads the magnetic tape and converts it to an electronic signal with its read head, so the speakers can play it. A cassette adapter skips the magnetic tape and instead has a write head (used for recording) that takes an electronic signal from your MP3 player and converts it to a magnetic signal ... which is then converted back to an electronic signal for your speakers with its read head, as normal.

Fuckin' magnets. How do they work?

Why are there so many varieties of screw driver heads? Does a slot screw offer an advantage over philips' head in some instances or something? Seems like something obvious to standardize...

Really well. Far better than any of those radio signal adapter things.

Is there any actual functional, biological or evolutionary reason for ass hair? I can't imagine any purpose for it and I can't imagine that it helps attract a mate.

I wondered the same thing about butt cheeks!:lol

The hair is just an unfortunate consequence of having butt cheeks. Most animals have hair in that area.

We need those butt cheeks to sit on though. What function does ass hair provide?

Animals sit down just fine (Naked no less!) without them. In fact they widen out the more we sit.

Thinking about it further, it could be used to hold waste in rather than it leaking all over the place.

Asses are also awesome to look at and give you something to hold onto. See hot chick threads for proof.

probably related to sweat retention, I'd assume armpit, pubic, and ass hair's functions are somewhat related. Probably pheromone related too.

But don't some people have asses without any hair down there?

As far as I know everyone has hair on their armpits and pubes, but I thought not everyone had a hairy ass (I am just assuming, I haven't personally checked the assholes or genitals or every person on the planet).

Discovery channel needs to devote an hour or so to this age old question.

If we are talking strictly about the gluteus maximus muscle itself, that particular muscle is so large because it is needed to hold a person upright. Human have a very atypical posture, even among great apes, which is why are buttocks are relatively large.

In primates, the buttocks are also a primary indicator of fertility, including humans.

Regarding the hair: The same reasons we have hair everywhere else.

Good points! So instead of needing them to sit down on, we need the stand up! Ingenious!

Is anyone getting memory leaks with chrome + neogaf? Sometimes I have to shut down a huge chrome process and it's always a gaf one:/

Then how come we go bald on our head (where we need the hair the most) and grow it in places that don't need it (asses, ears, etc.)?

Yup.

While standing, hold your leg as far up in front of you as you can without falling over, goose step style. Quickly flex the corresponding buttcheek. Your leg should jerk down slightly.

Male pattern baldness is a genetic trait. I don't really know much about it besides that.

For the second question, I don't know. For that matter, I also don't know why ear hair growth accellerates as men age and testosterone levels drop. It seems counterintuitive.

everyone has more or less, being completely hairless would be odd, but not unheard of I guess. As far as ass hair, I've been with women that have nothing but small insiginificant hairs down there, but they're still there. The ones that are completely hairless are the ones that truly care about you as a man, marry her.

Sweat retention and pheromone retention are not really as necessary in modern humans anyways.

Slot-headed screws
K3edX.jpg
offer better torque then phillips
yiXqk.jpg
and are much less likely to strip.

Allen, or "Hex head"
ObmTI.jpg
are often used in do-it-yourself projects because the tool required for it
R6x6t.gif
can be produced cheaply and included in the packaging.

Torx head's
d6QiX.jpg
are designed to prevent "cam out" (the act of the driver forcing it's way out of the screw head, which is what causes phillips head screws to strip). They're designed for machine fitted screws and are for more precious amounts of torque being applied to a screw.

Other less common types of screw heads are designed so a special tool is needed to remove them and are thus less likely to be tampered with.

Fuckin' magnets. How do they work?

My best guess

The electric signal moves through wire as time-varying current. This time varying current induces an electomotive force which induces a magnetic field. This magnetic field generated by the resistance in the head strip then induces a voltage in the tape deck, which in term generates a time varying current, which then is amplified and played though your speakers.

Why is there a thread essentially called, "butts butts butts" on the Gaming side. I couldn't be bothered to look through that thread.

On my laptop when i first got it something came up and asked me if i wanted to limit how my battery would charge while plugged in. Because I always have my laptop charging, so it only charges up to 50% and now i've forgotten how to correct it.

Does anyone know how to disable this feature?

running windows 7

Looking for a laptop for school (engineering). So far have narrowed it down to the the Dell Studio XPS 16, Lenovo Thinkpad W510, and the HP Envy 14. Which one should I get (or is there another, better option I am missing for around the same price point as those)?

Does anyone know of a website that lists movie pre-screenings broken down by city? Always hear them giving away tickets on the radio for them, but the theater websites don't mention it, or future pre-screenings.

I think it's a leftover from our evolutionary ancestors rather than something we've developed.

What happened to Costanza? Was there some kinda mass Clique ban that I missed?

There was a mass suicide in the Rock Band thread and I believe he was one of them.

:lol And that is why I stay the fuck outta Gaming! Gonna track the thread down and enjoy the carnage, cheers!

EDIT: Good god, I hope someone washed that banhammer off after all the spilled brains went everywhere. Are these permabans? That lot were sometimes a bit annoying but it is noticably slower around here without them all

The head honcho of all this was complaining to Evilore that all Rock Band news should go into the megathread. Evilore diasgreed because clearly people would miss news this way, this agitated the head honcho. So for this person's suicide he created about 8 new threads on every tiny piece of Rock Band news.

Nice, at least he went out in style then :lol You see, this is why I'm quite happy to be a mid-level poster. These guys are like Ikarus, they flew too close to the sun and so a mod came and melted their wings off with a lazer :lol

I just hope they come back in time for Scott Pilgrim, that's like half of the fans gone in one fell swoop.

Question :

What do you guys do in order to have an avatar with the specified pixels and still maintaining the .gif properly watchable ?
