Could someone point me to the tech support thread? I tried searching here and did the google method but I can't find it.

Alternatively, perhaps someone here could answer the question - my dad's computer is a mess and crazy slow. I did the best with my limited abilities to set it on the right path. I did a Malwarebytes scan, ran ccleaner, ran adaware, replaced explorer with Firefox and installed adblock and no script. Is there anything else I can do? Also, is it a potential problem that he's running norton anti-virus software in addition to Windows Defender? And finally, should I get rid of his current anti-virus and replace it or is Norton fine?
Microsoft Security is pretty good on resources for a free AV tool, it certainly takes less than anything else I have tried in the last 3 years, might help a bit.

Could you drop a Tank in the battlefieild via airdrop parachute? I'm talking a fully loaded M1 Abrams tank with 5-9 parachutes to slow it's descent? Like in the A-Team

Not an M1, but some light tranks were air deployed: http://www.eaglehorse.org/4_ftx_gunnery/equipment/m551_sheridan/sheridan7.htm

"Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion "Airborne" 73rd Armor Regiment became the first unit to airdrop Armor into combat during Operation Just Cause when eight tanks parachuted into Torrijos-Tocumen International airport, Panama in 1989. The Sheridan could be loaded and airlifted / air dropped from a C-130, C-140, and the C-5 (the C-17 was after my time). Its size and firepower was quite a tool for the 82nd Airborne. From Fort Bragg to anywhere in the world the infantry had the comfort of knowing the Sheridan was at their disposal."

Not really dropping in the classic sens of a medium high altitude parachute descent though. More a semi controlled crash with a sled and a drogue.

Ah, so you can't drop a tanks from say 6000 feet or so? Wow...movies have lied to me.
Sorry. It's only this once though, everything else you see in movies is true and actually occurs daily. :D

OK, I remember this movie from my childhood, it's animated, and all I remember is this qouote "It's the gas!" and some tanker truck turned over in a forest and some guy gets out of the truck coughing. I have no other memory of it besides that. What's it called?

Also there's an animated movie where to get to the characters homeland (I THINK is a mice or rodent) You have to go "South to South To south", and the main characters brother turned out to be the bad guy. Damn, my memory is horrible. He was in a cage and the love interest were having their falling in love song distantly.

Whatever you do be sure to get rid of norton. Slowdowns always happen to computers when you load them up with software and a bunch of drivers. From the sounds of things and the fact that Norton is still on it, I'm sure the computer is the same was it was from the factory. Do him a favor and do a format and a fresh install of windows.

Hey GAF,
What cables do I need to hook up my MacBook Pro to a PC monitor with a VGA analog input? And what would I need to hook it up to an HDTV with an HDMI port?
Thanks.

Would there be any purpose in just starting up Keeaboo and/or Weeaboo threads folks with those inclinations to go into?

Hello,

For this Thanksgiving break, I will be traveling to New Mexico to chill with the sisters/mother on Wednesday via bus. Normally, I would be stoked to be spending time with them, but my oldest sister has to drive all the way to California on Thursday (WTF?) to pick up my mom, then they'll arrive to Albuquerque on Saturday for a late Thanksgiving dinner.

To get back to Denver, I would be using our awesome plane service that uses the honorable TSA service... :-/

So my question is: can I take a PS3 as carry-on luggage on a plane?

I mean, freaking GT5 is coming out on Wednesday, so I figured I could just take my PS3 and a copy of it to NM, and wait two long days for my family to get together...

How accurate is the UPS package tracking delivery date estimate? I placed an order for something on Friday and it shipped this morning @ 4am and arrived in Indianapolis, IN @ 3pm today. It is in transit to Baltimore. When I calculate the time in transit from its destination (Kansas City, KS) to Baltimore it says 2 days in transit. The estimated delivery date on the tracking website says Scheduled for Delivery November 31???

That's ridiculous right? I mean I know UPS will not be operating on Thanksgiving, I assume, but 4 days to get from Indiana to Maryland? I just had something ship from Kansas last week and it took 2 days.

Just curious because I had planned on it arriving Wednesday because I'll be leaving Wed. night to go to my family's out of state for a week and won't get back until Wednesday next week. >:[

I'm pretty sure only a Brazilian gaf member can answer this. But I was trying to remember the name of I think is a Brazilian woman that would pose nude in magazines. It something like tetezinha or whatever. I remember she had black straight hair, and I think she once went on a show called Caldeirao do Huck. She used to always wear a Robin, from Batman, like mask. Anybody know who this chick is? It's been a long time so my memory might be foggy.

Is that a GT5 related question? :D

Tracking of packages from within the country can be from 12-hours to 24 hours accurate, give or take. Non-business days and holidays can be the the exception.

I've flown with game systems in my carryons before but it's been a while so I don't know if there are tighter restrictions. My guess is that you may have to take it out like with a laptop at the security check but you should be able to take it.

It's rather long winded and I was planning to make a thread, but I knew I probably couldn't keep up with the conversation that would ensue. It was originally going to be made right after the 11/02/10 elections, but I decided not to.

I feel that it's a real stupid question so I figured it fits here. Ignore if stupid.

The American people and their role in political gridlock.

My small experience in politics as an American has lead me to believe that there are many reasons for our perpetual snail's pace towards change and progress on fiscal and social policy. Billions of campaign dollars obscure the true intentions of any aspiring politician. The constant deification and demonization of the other side reinforces the divide between two ideologies whose differences are minor at best and reconcilable at worst. People continually complain about government gridlock and the ineptitude of the government, but they fail to realize the importance of voting.

People complain about our government and it's cumbersome approach towards governing, but they don't realize that voting has been the key issue from the start and it's importance doesn't lie solely in the numbers(even though it's an important component). It lies in solid trends and positive feedback. The reason things in this country have not moved forward in a significant way is because people continually fail to show their representatives that they will receive significant backing. We reward the wrong politicians at the wrong time simply because of a small misstep. We complain about stagnation and gridlock, but we fail to keep the guilty elements of the system at bay. The current political climate of today provides no incentives for change because voters provide no solid framework. Why should democrats change to a more progressive policy when the progressives fail to rally behind them in a significant way? Why would you support a constituency whose mood changes is subject to the smallest change in the political landscape? Why should they waste their time passing massive legislation for a constituency who thinks that the political game ends on election day? Why should they bother to pander to a base that will stay home after the major voting is done while the other base is practically firing all cylinders 24/7?

The political climate of the year 2008 was the democrat party at it's best. It was out for blood and was not afraid to show it, but they let the hype falter. Our current predicament is not the fault of politicians or the two party system. The republicans and democrats are not solely to blame. We as a people need to grab a our chance when a half decent politician comes along or we'll be stuck in our current situation(choosing between stalwart support for clowns or continual gridlock with fresh blood). It's the fault of the people who won't vote, it's the fault of the system that does not provide people with the time to vote and it's the fault of the people who fail to provide their party of choice with any sort of backing that reinforces solid differences in political ideology.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I hope I didn't just become a joke character

Yeah I was for a bit. Looks like I'm the walking dead at this point.

American Public gets exactly what it deserves for 112th straight election

You know those Adidas Skywalker shoes from last year or the start of this year or whenever it was? The orange, rebel themed ones? Whats the best way to clean them? I've found quite a few guides on cleaning canvas sneakers in general, but these ones have all kinds of different bits made of various materials and I don't really wanna ruin them.

I have a fast internet connection, but more often than not, I have issues with videos (no matter what website) getting "stuck" while they download.

I'll be watching a YouTube video for example, and the red bar is filling up and loading the video, then it just randomly stops and my playback catches up to this dead end and now it sits there 'buffering' forever. It is usually better to just refresh the page a few times and finally it loads completely.

What can cause this??

IE8, Windows 7.

How do I make Excel subtract numbers that are in different cells? I want to start making a monthly budget with my income in the top cell and I want it to subtract everything in the following cells from the first.

In the target cell:

=A1-sum(A2:A<last cell number>)

Replace A with whichever column it is, and change the row numbers as necessary.

I did it a few times on international flights, so my guess it that it would be ok for you (although US-bound flights may be a little different, I don't know). Each time I had to take it out of my bag for the X-ray check though.

My father got some sort of touchpad for his PC that's meant for handwriting Chinese characters. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts to install it for him, the best it will do is produce some gibberish (but decidedly non-Chinese) characters in whatever application is open if he writes anything on the pad. I have Chinese characters enabled on his PC, so I'm not sure what's up. For reference, it's a fairly old PC running Win2k. The driver disc that came with the touchpad seemed to install a working driver and the interface program itself. From what I can understand, it shows what you're writing in a bright, bold character overlay on the screen until you stop drawing, then takes whatever it is you drew and tries to interpret it into a character.

The first few are somewhat standalone, but you should probably at least see the last film, if not the one before that as well.

I don't think an old OS like that'll really have good handwriting support.

Sorting through the cardboard boxes in the basement with my mother and now I´m wondering: is there a website that has building plans for Lego stuff, but REAL plans for whole kits and stuff? My baby nephew is still far too young to play with it, but it´d be cool to be able to give him my old castle or something down the road (or my own kids, should I ever have some), but everything I had is in million of pieces and the manuals long lost.

TL;DR: Building plans/manuals/instructions/whatever it´s called in English for lego kits online, yes/no/where?

Does anyone have good facebook knowledge around here? :lol I seem to have ultra-blocked someone from my friends list (or said person have done it to me) and I can't find any options for removing this block. I used to have this person on my regular friends list but decided to delete her via the "Edit Friends" menu option under my account. And now I can't even find her account via the regular search function anymore. And her comments on people's statuses are invisible to me (but not to others), and while we're in a group together, I can't see her name in the chat and not even her picture (hovering over it just glitches out) so I can't even tell if it's really her :lol What's going on? :S

I wanted to change my email address on gaf. I registered with a university email address which I obviously wont be having forever.
I tried changing it to a freemail adress but no go. Do I need to contact someone to get it changed or is it not possible? Which would be a shame for the subscription feature.
And no I dont have any other private mail address :(
