This my brother asked me, and I didn't know the answer. So we were watching tv , hand sanitizer ad comes on. Then he asks me if he could go for a shit and then use that instead of washing his hands?
Could he?

No. Well, depends on what you would put under "could he?". Yes of course he physically could but they wouldn't be clean.

The first thing you learn in a food sanitation class is you always wash your hands (specific time and temp. but you probably don't care about that) and then if you want you can use hand sanitizer but it should never replace washing your hands. Washing your hands cleans, hand sanitizer only sanitizes. There is a difference.

It's why at a restaurant you have to clean before you sanitize. If you sanitize before cleaning, it isn't going to do much.

This isn't really a stupid question and could probably use it's own thread, but since I don't have the power to do so yet, I'll ask it here..

What are the best Associates or Bachelors (or even masters) degrees that don't require a heavy load of math? I'd love to go into engineering, but math is far from my forte, so I really don't know if I'd be able to get through the calculus classes that are required.. However, I still want a decent career that will let me earn a decent wage.

Forget engineering then, you will use that math in courses throughout your courses even when you are done with math.

Business Management and Marketing. Both have math but not nearly as much as accounting and finance (I have a degree in finance and one in management)
If you're creative, you could go the arts route too.

Outside US GAF.

Did a internet intercontinental cable ruptured?

I was wondering if its just me. My internet is pretty much dead, there are pages that work, but most don't. This same thing happened years ago when one of those huge cables ruptured.

EDIT: Nevermind, its all right. There was a problem here in my country but it was just here.

If Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware bytes were the only thing on my computer, would I be pretty safe?
It's not a good idea to have to anti-virus programs running at the same time. Not only can they conflict with each other when a virus is found, but during normal operation they can cause the PC to slow down a lot more than just one would. I'm not really sure which one is better, so just pick one and you should be pretty good*. Personally, I run MSE because it is extremely simple/easy to use.

* The really important part is: don't visit suspicious links/sites.

Malwarebytes is not an Antivirus, it is a malware scanner. The freeware version is on-demand. I use it along with Avast and SuperAntiSpyware. So rmt92 should be fine.

I thought Marketing was one of those... not so great.. degrees. Like communications or sociology.

Guys, I need some assistance with the opening to a cover letter. In Dutch, when you've spoken to human resources prior to sending your application, you usually open by referring to that phone call. You something like 'naar aanleiding van mijn telefoongesprek met...'. That's the Dutch version :P. Is it common to open with this in English cover letters as well? For instance: Referring to my conversation with ... something something -> I wish to apply for... etc

Any thoughts? How do you guys open when there's been contact prior to the actual application?

What a coincidence, I came here to ask about cover letters as well.

I've never created one, so all this time I thought it was just like a cover page to a book but now I find out it's an actual letter. Am I right on this? I basically have to write to my potential employer? What sort of things do I have to discuss? I'm going to look more into it later but if someone could give me some bullet points I'd greatly appreciate it.

I am talking about a 2d plane and a perpendiculer line intersecting another line at a point.

So A is 20000 unit length and I want B to intersect it at 5000. How do I do the intersection at that specific point?

we just stated AutoCAD class and all of asuddend I have a coursework due till monday. Our lecturer just messed up somewhere along the line...

Someone already answered but I can offer some help as well.

Turn on OTRACK, OSNAP, and either POLAR or ORTHO. Draw your 20000 length line. From the left side, hold the cursor over the end and slowly pan to the right. Type in 5000 and you should have your starting point for the intersecting line sitting on the original line.

So... I was at my girlfriend's house yesterday. I was there from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m... I left my car on the corner of the block... and what was my surprise when I was about to leave?

The car's battery was gone! Motherfuckers! I really don't know how they opened the hood (the car was closed).

It's a quiet neighborhood... first time it happens to me... now I need to buy another battery.

My question is... what can I do to secure the new battery?

You buy two of them and connect one to hood. Whoever touches the hood will get an electric shock and probably not touch it again.

or just remove it and take it with you when you park, like people use to do with the face plates of their head units

Tell that to an ad exec making millions. If you try to get a normal job with one, you may be right, but getting a job specialized for marketing &/or communications is very rewarding. If you're wanting anything, Management might be a better option and maybe a little easier provided you understand it's really just philosophy/logic geared toward business with a bit of history thrown in for the heck of it.

I was thinking right now, when Twilight became popular there was a ton of knockoff copycat teen books.

With the recent popularity of the girl with the dragon tattoo, did american authors spit out their clones too?

If you have your "Default Thread Subscription Mode" set to anything except "Do not subscribe", then yes.

just because something is terrible doesn't mean it needs to be posted

some posters clearly just refresh the 'horrible news' section of CNN.com or whatever all day until they can find a story that'll get several pages and hopefully draw attention to them

Related question, can someone make a Firefox add-on that will filter out thread titles that include words like murder, rape, punch a woman into coma, gang rape a child, etc? I would love to be able to hide those threads.

Oh look, a puppy!

I always wonder what those people are thinking. These awful stories aren't relevant to anyone, not important in any larger sense, and not something we really need to be apprised of.

Thus their only function is to make us feel bad, or horrified, or sometimes outraged.

Sorry Shanadeus, but I'm not going to add pointless suffering to the forum on your behalf. :P

Ya, I will force myself to read some of the violent stories that relate to world politics and instability in different regions, because I feel like they are important to know what is going on in the world. Those are bad enough. The random psycho story is not important to the overall understanding of humanity. Ya, we have psychos, and ya, we're probably all capable of horrible acts, but I don't need to be reminded every time I browse gaf.
