Is there a general .gif request thread? I couldn't find one by searching.

I really want someone to create a .gif using FFVII Knights of the Round but with all the heads of the Knights replaced with MOD Avatars. It would be a hilarious perma-banned .gif.

Okay, I have a very weird situation and since I cannot create my own thread, maybe you guys can help:

I can connect to the internet, but I cannot access my employer's website from my home computer. Other people I have called to test the website say that they can connect and navigate, so I don't think it's a system issue at their end. Microsoft's diagnostic report finds no issues; however, the site will not load. I have restarted my computer, reset my modem, and...nothing. I could access this site just yesterday. WTF?

I have an important interview for a full-time position today (I am currently part-time) and hoped to do research on the specific department, i.e., relevant personnel, etc. before I went. Every day, I am becoming more of a Luddite.

Thanks for any advice, help.

Start with a collection like The Best of H. P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre by H.P. Lovecraft and Robert Bloch then go from there
Alright, I'll check it out. Thank you for answering. Too bad there aren't many Lovecraft novels in my language.

Sorry for replying so late. :p

2 - What kind of plant is this?
What are the trees/plants around them? It's probably seedlings of that. You can look for seeds on the ground and compare to seed pods/fruits on the nearby trees. Some plants have different shaped leaves as juveniles.

What is the "entity" called that is a form of "you" but not you. Sorry I can't put it into words better than that.
Are you talking about some kind of hypothetical second person? As in, "You should always look both ways before crossing the street"?

Grammar vikings would insist you use the word "one" instead of "you." I think that's called a referent. But some languages have a whole "fourth person" pronoun for that.

Recommend me a good deodorant please
i've been using 'bro stank' stuff throughout my youth but recently switched to bland 'adult deodorants', which are kinda meh

Unscented and then find a few colognes you like for going out.

two questions:

1 - is there any place where I can buy an older version of Photoshop for cheap? I want to have it, but there is no way I can afford the crazy price of the latest version. I can get the student version for $189, though. What is the difference between the regular and student versions? (not that I can really afford almost $200, either)

I can also get Photoshop Elements for $77 on Amazon. What exactly is Photoshop Elements?
The only difference between the regular and student version is that you need to be a student to get the student version. You're even allowed to profit from what you make with the student version (I called them to check).

Elements is a stripped-down version of Photoshop. If you're doing simple stuff like cropping, resizing, and color-correction, that's all you really need. But regular Photoshop has a bunch of things that will make your photos look better.

Ive had these issues in the past where the DNS servers that automatically get assigned dont have the most up to date records. Try changing your DNS to something else.

Try one of these.

Googles public DNS addresses
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

OpenDNS addresses
208.67.220.220
208.67.222.222

As an aside, I've noticed that I sometimes get terribly high ping times to google's DNS servers. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's pretty annoying when it does. An easy solution is to install a caching DNS server.

I have a good question to ask, and by good I mean one that fits the thread title. I have a camera, Canon PowerShot, and the lens is dirty like from the inside, and you can see the dust particles when I record video. How do I get it cleaned? Do I have to disassemble it or can I take it somewhere to be cleaned?

Not sure. You'd probably be better off asking this in The Official Camera Equipment Megathread.

Why do metal bands often release 'Live in Japan' Albums?
Off the top of my head, i could name Blind Guardian, Children of Bodom and Arch Enemy, but I'm sure there's more
Why not just a general live album? what makes japan special?
Is there some kind of huge fanbase for metal over there?

Take it to a specialty camera/film shop they should be able to help you out. I wouldn't recommend trying to take it apart yourself.

In a word, yes.

You know how there are 3rd party Twitter clients, do they have that for Youtube's subscription feed? Because their feed really sucks, I'm constantly missing videos because of the wacky way they organize it. I don't understand why they don't just display all the videos in the order they were posted.

Why has Metro 2033, which came out in March 2010, never dropped below $40? Even AAA titles that were released in that time frame have dropped to $20ish by now. Or if they haven't they were at least on sale a few times.

Low print run on the 360 perhaps? It was $10 on Steam recently.

Why are most movie download services, after all these years, still mostly subtitles-free? I can't imagine how obnoxious it must be for deaf / hard of hearing people (personally I like them because I like to make sure I understand every bit of dialogue, which doesn't always happen because a) i am not a native speaker b) a very large number of movies have muffled dialogues which even native speakers can miss at points c) i can't stand concentrating on a british english accent).

I mean you go from the DVD world, where subtitles and different tracks are standard, to a much lower cost, supposedly more flexible DD world where itunes, amazon and all the others are like 'lol! no subtitles for you!". Even netflix has fairly poor support, and all of them have next to zero support on non-pc (for instance, I can't think of a way to turn on subtitles for netflix for anything but the website - ps3, ipad and xbox don't seem to have the option).

How fucking hard can it be, seriously?
[/rant]

Some bonus points for hulu who has subtitles for a fair amount of stuff, including on their ps3 interface (but not on ipad/xbox).

why restaurants in North America offer so many choices when ordering food that it becomes confusing and a pain in the ass ? for example at Subway: you have to choose the type of bread, the sandwich recipe, what vegetables to put in, whether it should be grilled or not, the type of sauce, whether to put salt & pepper..

Can't they just fucking take my money and give me the A, B or C sandwich damnit ?! I don't care about the kind of bread, have no allergy and eat pretty much anything. They should have a "default setting" mode to skip all those silly questions.

I fell asleep on a couch and now my upper back is destroyed. The pain is an intense pulsing and hurts whenever I make any movements.

Any ideas on what I should do?

It really depends on the reason, but I recommend tylenol (or ibuprofen if you can take it) + walking.

Could somebody explain how the hell you're supposed to eat a hard shell taco? Every time I've ever tried, I take one bite and it turns into nachos.

Am I missing something? Is there some secret ancient technique to eating a taco without it crumbling in your hands that nobody's ever told me about?

Bite it as slowly as you can and hope for the best. I like to push the sides together so the bite goes parallel into both sides of the shell at the same angle, reducing shell-to-contents-to-shell friction. Of course this all depends on the toppings; beans will hold the shell better, lettuce destroys it. Once you find the right balance you won't
n
ever be breaking shells again.

Anyone on GAF currently or studying to become an architect? I was talking with some of my friends who are planning on going into civil engineering and I had the idea of becoming an architect come to mind. If you guys are here, could to talk about how your education planning went and just some other things about the career that you all have been dealing with?

Yes, I don't think he understood the concept of what he was saying when he typed it either. Perhaps he meant perpendicular, and then blathered about something else.
