Stupid question incoming!

Say I dig a hole that goes through the center of the Earth to the other side of the planet.Ignore magma and shit.
If I jump in...what will happen???

Gravity will keep you in the centre and probably demolish you in the process from the forces pulling you back and fourth?

Gravity will catch you eventually in the other side (past the center) and you falling speed will decrease, then you fall in the other way... etc... But you might it some wall because I guess you won't jump perfectly straight ! :lol

Yes, and eventually he will stop in the center of the core and just... float? I don't think there there's much gravity there, as it is the very center. OR maybe it's the other way around... the extreme gravity just holds him there. I forget.

Not quite the place for it, but I'd rather not bump another thread....

I watched a movie as a child once, and I'm trying to remember what it was.

I remember it being "non-rated" on the box when we rented it from the store (on VHS).
It was loooooooooooong (we watched it in multiple sittings over the weekend).
It was a fairy tale type of movie, with all sorts of fairy tale creatures (kinda like Shrek, but more mature and not animated). It had a friendly werewolf who liked a human girl, and I distinctly remember a scene where some of the bad guys threaten to make a character wear metal shoes that have been heated over a fire to "make her dance."

Any ideas?

You will hit the walls because of the rotation of the planet. If the hole is straight through the poles, you will hit the walls because the planet is not gravametrically perfect, and distortions (clumps of mass inside the planet) will move you against the walls. If it was through the poles and the planet had no gravity clumps, *and* you were able to accurate steer yourself like a skydiver, air friction would slow you down until you have wound up in the middle of the core, floating there indefinitely. If there was no air friction, no clumps, and through the poles (or through a non-rotating planet), you would indefinitely go in one side and out the other, forever.

Depends on when you were a child, but I think you are referring to The 10th Kingdom.

My Googling finds these candidates:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Company_of_Wolves

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faerie_Tale_Theatre

Thanks for the efforts, guys, but no dice.

I did a bit more Googling, and there are definitely fairy tales that the movie was based on, so lemme give a few more details.

* It was set entirely in a fantasy world.
* It was one continuous movie, not a series.
* I watched it when I was around 8 (1997) but the movie could have been around for a while before then.
* The metal shoe scene is based off of a version of Snow White, and now that I know that, I'm pretty sure she was one of the main characters in the movie (she may have been the one the werewolf falls in love with).

I wish I had more details, cause it's been bugging me for years. :lol

Why hasn't The Dark Knight aged well?

Because it was never all that great to begin with. Average movie hyped to death by Heath Ledger dick-riders.

This has been bugging me for a little while..

What show are these .gifs from?

If a significant occurrence takes place on a TV show, and it's goes unaddressed the next season, like it didn't happen, does it count as a retcon?

No, only if something next season contradicts it, or the results of the occurence

Hmm.

You say it's a long-ish movie?

Probably not Snow White: A Tale of Terror, but it could be.

Great movie. The kid who puts the solution on his nuts reminds me a lot of virgin GAF.

Movie scared me when I was a kid.

What does a "FATAL ERROR" mean?

I see that sometimes on different computers and it always seems so severe, like I'm going to die or something.

lol

i got "Catastrophic Failure" once installing some software when i first got my computer. No joke, and i took a picture of it which is somewhere. It sounded so dramatic i cracked up over it.

Can't answer your question tho

The "fatal" refers the the fact that the error kills whatever program/process was operating.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_error
In computing, a fatal error is an error which causes a program to abort - and thus may return the user to the operating system. When this happens, data that the program was processing may be lost. A fatal error occurs typically in any of these cases:

* An illegal instruction has been attempted
* Invalid data or code has been accessed
* The privilege level of an operation is invalid
* A program attempts to divide by zero. (Only for integers; with the IEEE floating point standard, this creates an infinity instead)

In some systems, such as Microsoft Windows, a fatal error causes the operating system to create a log entry or to save an image (core dump) of the process.
:lol

If we're trying to guess movies that we can't remember titles to:

I used to have an animated movie about a cat. This was the late 80's and was on a beta cassette. It starts out on a farm, and was most definitely not a Disney movie. Unfortunately, I can't remember much else. Last time I saw it was about 20 years ago.

I tried to google this but couldn't really find any answers.

Now i got a switch for the all the computers and stuff using internet in the house, it's fine but it has no wireless. Now i found this pretty cheap wireless router with only 2 ports (which is too little) but can i just plug that one into my big switch?

So :

Internet connection > Switch > Wireless router ?

Wife and I about to buy a 37" LCD HDTV.

1. Can you guys comment on Vizio or Proscan models?
2. Can I get regular broadcast cable in HD from Time Warner (Basic) Cable?
3. If we play regular DVDs on it, will they look stupid?
4. How bad ass will my 360 games look?

Is there a way to change the default font in Word '07? I hate Calibri and even though the body of my papers are in Times every time I make a new footnote it reverts back to Calibri >:(

If we ignoring air resistance and friction against the sides of the hole, as well as the intense gravity (and possibly air pressure?) that would probably crush you as you neared the center, you would pass through the hole and come to a stop on the other side of the earth at the same height (relative to the earth's center of mass) as you started. If you had something to grab on to, you could stop, but if not you'd fall back through, again and again like a pendulum.

It acts kind of like a skateboarder on a half-pipe.

Furthermore, IIRC, any hole that goes through the earth (not necessarily the center; a straight-shot tunnel from LA to NYC, for instance) would have similar effects (although in such a case, you'd slide against the side of the tunnel instead of falling through). And even more interestingly, the time it would take to fall from one end of the tunnel to the other is constant among all such tunnels through the earth (so the LA/NYC tunnel would take the same amount of time as the LA/London tunnel, and the same amount as the NYC/Beijing tunnel, etc.).

But yeah, if you don't ignore friction and air resistance, you wouldn't make it all the way to the other end. You'd still come to a stop somewhere, and be able to grab something to stay there. But if you kept falling, you'd oscillate back and forth until you came to rest at the center of the tunnel. Again, like a skateboarder on a half-pipe.

1. Room mate had the 32" Vizio and it was a great TV for the money. Its not top of the line or anything, but it is a huge step up from the previous 24" tube.
2. Yes, you should get all the local stations (PBS, CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC) in SD and HD, (probably on a station such as 9-1 instead of 9)
3. Regular DVD's will look great, esp with a component or HDMI cable and progressive scan turned on.
4. Pretty bad ass

I've been meaning to ask this for some time now, it's about girls breath. Sometimes a girl will have a stronger humor, but why? is it related to her period? a bad liver? It's not a deal killer but I want to know these things!

You know of fetor hepaticus?

I need help looking for a shirt. I type out a description of it online and have had no luck so far. I've seen two people wear it, at two different locations, so I'm guessing its widely available. Anyway, on the front (or the back, I forget this minor detail) it has an old-ish looking man smoking out of an old fashioned pipe, and out of the pipe comes purple smoke that forms a picture of a galaxy.

Stupid question. I might move to england for a year or so next jan. I have started looking for places to stay but the only flats I can find are for weekly rentals only. There has to be a place online where I can find a place to rent on a yearly bases, right?

What is a reasonable price to expect for a tune-up on a mitsubishi galant 4 cylinder car? (I know nothing abot cars and its my wife's)
Are the spark plugs/wires easy to change on said make and model? I'm not sure if I can see them all.

How do I duplicate the pressure I feel when a paper is due the day its due or day before, and take that pressure and do my paper like a week early instead?
