Any solid ways to solve number series questions?

Normally, I'd be ok with increasing numbers, but when they throw shit with increasing numbers, and then throw in a smaller number, only to go back up, it confuses the hell out of me. I don't think there were any times where I was taught how to solve them. Just general math, which I'm also weak at now :(

I usually space the original numbers out and put the difference between them into the gaps and look for patterns that way. Something like....

2.....4.....6.....8.....10 ?
...2.....2.....2.....2......2 =12

or break it down multiple levels until a pattern is even more apparent.

80.....77.....72....65.....56.....45?
....-3......-5.....-7.....-9......-11
.........-2......-2.....-2.....-2...

I'm not going to solve the problem, but I'll help outline the approach you should take. ;)

In the first case, with the flat road, you have a car moving in a circular path due solely to centripedal force. The force is solely supplied by static friction. (Side note: Why static and not kinetic? The car is not sliding through the turn. If the car starts to skid, that means that the tires have exceeded the maximum static frictional force and now kinetic friction applies.) So, based on the geometry of the situation, you should be able to derive what you need from a few basic equations:

1) Based on the mass of the car, the radius of the turn, and the speed around the turn, you should be able to calculate the centripedal force.
2) Since static friction is based on the normal force and the coefficient of static friction, you should be able to calculate that coefficient given the centripedal force.

OK, great...now that we have that coefficient, we're set for the second part. Why does a banked turn help a car maintain a greater speed? In the flat case, the only centipedal force is applied because of static friction. However, in a banked turn, there are two forces which help with the turn: static friction, and the component of the normal force which points towards the center of the turn.

The key to this part of the problem will be to draw the vector decomposition diagram in the right way. In order for the car to move through the turn, you have to balance the forces along each axis. To maintain circular motion at the new speed, you have to sum the force components in the centripedal direction from static friction and the normal force. Along the ramp, though, you also have to balance some forces since the component of static friction along the ramp must be enough to keep the car from slipping down the ramp under its own weight. The force components in each direction will be a function of the bank angle, but since you solved part 1 of the problem, you should know all of the other values. Solve for the bank angle, and you're in business.

Hope this helps...

Thanks!

why was the 'Pics that make you laugh for no apparent reason ' thread cloased? is there a new trhread?

Look at the last couple pages.

A certain theme was starting to form.

What theme?

I have no clue actually.

However, I can speculate:

I'm guessing it's due to the bickering between people over various crap. (i.e. the cat incident on the last page, for example) It's just one example of something that has happened countless times in that thread where someone posts a pic, then someone says "That is not funny, you [adjective]." Then the other person responds and the war begins...which defeats the purpose of the thread since the point is to share funny pics, not to debate whether they are funny or not, or argue with someone.

A bit gaming side, sorry.

Years ago I played Diablo2/LoD and I could cycle through skills that I had assigned to F1/2/3 etc with the mouse wheel.

Now neither I nor my brother can do that in D2.

Is this a problem with this game and Vista or what? I need my mouse wheel :/

Why does Windows Live Messenger keep crashing ever since their stupid mandatory update? It's pissing me off.

I'm using Vista btw.
Try searching online for the specific error messages, that works for me almost always.

My friend's macbook has it's own wifi signal, and I'm wondering if theres a way this can be done with PC laptops too.

You mean the MacBook broadcasts Wi-Fi for other devices to connect to it ?

It's called SoftAP. Google it.

OK, this is really dumb, but where's that thread about the GAFFer who wanted an internet bandwith meter that showed how much he/she was downloading for the past 24 hours, and not just by date?

Question 1: Did he ever get an answer other than "stop downloading so much?"

Question 2 (Ignore if the answer is yes): If he didn't get an answer he liked, can someone point him to me/his thread so I can give him a decent answer?

Cuz, my answer for him:

Bitmeter: It's not quite exactly what you want, but if you go to the statistics grid and tab over to the hours tab, you can see how much you've downloaded for every hour of the day. Do a quick add up of the last 24 hours and you should be set.

Is there anyone familiar with Chinese culture? I went on a second date with a girl (who studies sinology) and she gave me this little plastic ladybug in an envelope. she was talking about its symbolic meaning in China, but I didn't remember exactly what she said because I was so surprised and tbh, a little moved. Didn't expect to get something so sweet. I guess what I want to know if it was just a little gift (good luck charm) or did she mean more by it.
It means she wants you to FHUTA.

This is for any scandinavians. I spent a week in Stockholm, and was fairly drunk one night and asked a barmaid for a traditional Swedish shot. I have a note in my phone saying it sounds like seaman and it has a white bottle. Anyone know what it is?

I am from Sweden and I have no idea what she meant. I usually don't drink shots when going out, cause they are so damn expensive so its fairly possible I just missed it.

You're probably thinking of Seaman's Shot. It's basically vodka mixed with Fisherman's Friend. If you can't find it in Scotland, it's easy to make by yourself.

Heh, we just call a Fisherman's friend shot. But a white bottle? Maybe just a special kind of Vodka.

Oh, and it's German (not Swedish).

So what are todays educational movies for the young like in your country? I'm not talking about Bleach or Teletubbies or whatever, I'm talking about "proper" educational media. Infotainment is what I'm after.

Example: Here in Germany we have "die Sendung mit der Maus" and "Löwenzahn". Both are pretty similar in their premise, a guy encounters something interesting or a problem ("How does the internet work?" or "Turks - what's their life like in Turkey") and they show the solution. Inbetween are some cartoon strips and other filler to avoid the information overload melting the poor kids' brains.

Klingt komisch, is aber so. "Sounds weird, but that's the way it is." (key phrase of the narrator in the Maus TV series)

What brought this on? Well... rant time:
I just stumbled upon the "Once upon a time..." series. I grew up watching this cartoon, on the rare occasions that I was allowed to watch TV anyway. Needless to say, I'm now considering selling off a kidney or two and buying all six DVD boxes for 70€ apiece. That's a hardcore case of nostalgia we're talking about here.

I wonder if a "modern" TV show for kids could get away with showing a naked man and a woman hugging, merging into a ball, which then explodes and forms into a baby that grows up into a boy and eventually hugs a girl only to repeat the ball-explosion cycle. And that's only the Intro (link leads to the german version, me being a German and all).

I'm perfectly fine with it, but the nudity (including sideboob) is prone to give moralizers an aneurysm. Which, if I'm perfectly honest, makes the series even better in my eyes.

I always like to think of Bleach as a sort of "Scared Straight" for aspiring manga writers.

My question, after looking in the GAF pics thread - how do people purposely put their hair over their forehead/eyes and be good all day long? That would drive me goddamned nuts. I was pushing my hair back as I was looking, like some involuntary reflex.

Ok, I'm going to pick up HDMI cables. Do they need to be 360 specific (is there a proprietary connection on the 360 side?) or will a standard HDMI cable work?

I found one that says it will work for both the 360 or a PS3. Is this a new thing to treat a console like a VCR/DVD Player, where connections are universal?

Posted this is another thread on the gaming side, but you never know about those people. ;)

The thread was so grievously mis-titled there was no choice but to shut it down.

All HDMI is created equal. As long as it has an HDMI port, any HDMI cable will work on it.

Monoprice/ Amazon is your friend. Do not spend more than 10 bucks (incl shipping) on one. Mine including shipping was 5.

$6! Some gold-plated shiz that I know my AV buddies will be proud of! ;)

I have a really strong negative reaction to certain kinds of texture, particularly unglazed ceramic/terracotta and rough brushed steel. I just get really uncomfortable touching them, kind of similar to the reaction some people have hearing nails on a chalkboard. I've been pretty good about getting over irrational phobias (spiders, heights etc. - got over those before my teens by basically just thinking my way out of them), but this one I can't seem to shake. Don't remember any traumatic experiences that would produce it, so not sure where it came from. I've met a few people with the same reaction, but not many. I guess I'm wondering (i) how common is it (ii) any idea why I might have it in the first place?

It's important to note in tandem with this that if you have an older model 360, it may not have an HDMI port.

I get it from velvet. Touching or even thinking about velvet makes my skin crawl.

My girlfriend and I were at Coles to get some drinks and snacks (its not like Walmart, more of a grocery store) and as we walked in I spied a man who looked like the wheelchair guy from one of the Californication episodes. Anyway, he had no shoes on and a denim miniskirt. I initially thought he was a bum and remarked "Bums are hilarious." But then when we were outside I saw him get into the driver's side of a car and drive off.

So he is at the very least financially secure, he just thought "Hey, better wear my daughter's clothes for a quick run up the shops!"

I get something kinda similar to this, although it isn't an emotional response. Sometimes in stores (happens mainly in thrift-like stores, :lol ) if I touch something, my thumb and forefingers swell up and become tingly/numb/itchy. Maybe it's an allergic reaction? The only problem is I can't pinpoint it to anything, other than I hated going to thrift stores with my mom when I was younger. It's happened in more main stream stores as well, and usually happens around clothing (from what I remember). Any ideas medi-GAF?

I turned on my TV this morning and all I've got is a black screen with audio. No menu or channel display. It's a 19" Swisstec Plasma. About 2 years old. The online manual offers no troubleshooting/support and I can't get through to their customer service.

tldr; tv is borked, black screen, no display(channel, volume ect), audio only.

Any ideas?

are you sure you don't need to rescan for your channels? or is it not showing anything at all?

The channels are there, I can hear them. I can even change between them. It's not the signal.

Is there any way to enable DTS/Dolby Digital on my PC for other stuff besides DVDs? It turns on in sound properties for the speaker test but that's it.

Asus M2N32-SLI is the motherboard, sound chipset is SoundMAX ADI1988B.
