This week's Famitsu scan (Biohazard 4, Drag on Dragoon 2 etc)

Katamari Damacy 2 scares me.
In particular the ankle bracelet on the King and the Giraffe/Bikini combo on the Prince.

Is he in the Katamari on the second page?

Oh yes, DoD2/Drakengard 2 looks nice. I really DID dig the first game and I'm hoping they fix some of the problems and deliver something even better!

KD2, of course, will kick ass as well.

As for Bio 4, the links simply tell me that I don't have access rights. :\

Boss Spoiler in the RE4 scan. But damn does it look good.

yeah it was a spoiler, but what the heck. image quality is so sweet.

You have to use "save as"

clicking on the link does not work.

thx for the scans.
Drakengard 2 looks nice, more polys and more lighting, just what it needed.
The bosses seems more interesting too.

I can't see RE4 scans though.

Copy/Paste the RE4 links into your browser.

Yeah, that works for me. You can't just click on them...

That first Bio 4 scan really demonstrates what I've said all along, though. The original showing of the game was superior looking. :)

looks nowhere near as cool as this...

What looks good is subjective. Your argument was that the game has been technically downgraded which is simply BS.

I wonder if that first version was really running in real time. It just looked so damn good and it makes me wonder how they even pulled it off in the first place.

the first RE4 plays just like the old RE's.
While the new RE4 has more open areas and more enemies on screen and more interesting gameplay. It only can get better with more, more, more.......

I agree. The first showing had such a great atmosphere. Based on the pics and movies of the "new" RE 4, it seems to be more of the B-horror action stuff and less spooky atmosphere. Also that you seem to meet a lot of people/enemies in the new version, would be cooler if they aimed for the lonely feeling instead, being totally alone in a huge old house and starting to have hallucinations etc. I guess the b-horror splatter style is more in line with other RE games...but I was silently hoping they would take on a more mysterious approach, so to speak. Ah well, there are other games for that so I won't complain too much. But with this kind of graphics engine, it kind of irks me still. :P

Oh, I'm not convinced after playing the demo, I can tell you that right now. THAT was disappointing (purely from a visual standpoint). I was especially disappointed in Capcom's choice to use a 16-bit front buffer...

I should also note that I actually DO like the game thus far and will be purchasing it. I just felt that the visual side of things was very disappointing...

first RE4 version was stuck in the mansion only. That's why capcom wanted a change.

New RE4 has alot of outdoor areas which makes it impressive.

I can't really tell, but did you notice any differences graphically between the demo and the new vids of the near-final game put up recently?

I was quit impressed with the demo. I had already recgonized the fact that the texturing wasn't the greatest, but it blew me away that they implemented 60fps for the Cutscenes.

yes I noticed more polish, and better looking areas in the vidoes. The lake and mine area looks awesome.

The outdoor areas don't look impressive, though (at least the natural, wooded areas).

The thing is, they COULD have moved forward with the original style and still kept the outdoor areas alive...

I mean, they already had stuff like this set outdoors...

The style just seems different. The lighting in particular was really quite beautiful in the early versions. I love stuff like this...

resi4_screen001.jpg

The way they chose to light the scenes in those early areas was very reminiscent of REmake...

No they didn't. The game runs at 30 fps the entire time. Where did you get that idea? Did you get a different version? I have the demo that was recently released in the US as a pre-order bonus. Cutscenes most certainly were not 60 fps in that demo.

The thing that worries me about RE4 is that it looks like you're going to have to babysit that girl for a lot of the game. I may be pleasantly suprised but I'm not confident that the AI on the character will be anywhere near not being crap and frustrating.

And maybe my memories off but Drakengard, wasn't Mana the crazy, psycho, possessed demon child? Now it looks like she's a playable characters.

Actually, to be fair, the small bits of the night time sections you see in the videos look as good as the old version if not better. I'm talking about the small bits of the town you see in the old trailers with lightning flashing to light up your surroundings.

Fire Emblem GC: really cool art, but I'm mostly looking forward to rock-hard gamemplay and a kicking story.

True.

Just pull up the video demo on your RE4 Demo disc to see, what I feel, are areas that continue to show off the muscle of this engine.

I do understand how some want the claustrophobic/gothic environments of that previous RE4 demo. But this recent version's art and open nature mesh more my tastes. I can't complain.

I rather have enviroments like this than the previous dull setting:

I played the recent pre-order copy that my brother got (same as you) and the first thing that hit was that the initial cutscene with the car pulling up to the village was running at 60 fps. I was in shock that any part of the game was running that smooth. And the amount of space and available areas/actions to do in the game was quite impressive to me...a level of detail that I wasn't used to for RE games.

Well, dark10x, the backgrounds are much bigger now. It's quite possible they had to sacrifice the high res textures for a higher variety, and tone down the model complexity and the lighting so it could all fit into memory and have a smooth framerate. That old build took place in a mansion during a rainy night, and it's easier to make such a scene look more life like than an open natural area lit by daylight.

I also like the previous look more, but I acknowledge that that's just a matter of personal opinion.

OK, that's cool. The new environments are certainly nice.

I suppose it comes from the fact that I'm much more of a Silent Hill fan than an RE buff. The original RE4 footage really seemed to be moving away from the B-movie look and feel of the series and more into something closer to SH. I was kind of hoping that the game would move away from typical "zombie" like action and those original trailers seemed to being doing just that. The atmosphere seemed very oppressive and dark...

Of course, based on the RE4 demo, I doubt they could have pulled off the other aspect so important to the Silent Hill experience; audio. Akira is just damn skilled in that regard and no other team has managed to match his work in this genre...

Oh well, probably better for the series if it retains it's own look and feel...

You should really go check it out again. That scene is only 30 fps. Perhaps the lack of quick camera movement confused your eyes? :P Seriously, it's only 30 fps.

While I wish RE4 was as impressive graphically as it was initally, I'm happy that the game turned out well and that the larger scope and freedom for the player is in place.

It's still an impressive looking title... I don't think anyone will deny that.

Katamari 2 looks sweet. If this is $20 like the first, then count me in.
I like the donut level.

I actually think RE4 will be more fun than MP2E.

Out of left field, but I disagree.
Nothing will be as clever as MP2:E's overall design and nothing will be as fun as MP2:E's Boss Fights.

it shouldn't, if you've played the first.

this series is geared towards people with a certain -- predisposition.

from playing the demo and looking at these screenshots, i'm so glad that capcom has taken this step forward in changing the perspective of Resident Evil, i really hope that it does well in sales. i have my US version on pre-order, can't wait for it!
