So... not having bothered with anything since the last Thor movie. Would this even be worth watching or will it just be incomprehensible mess?

Looks okay.

Ragnarok was average IMO. When I first saw it in the cinema I thought it was fantastic, but then tried to watch it again and it didn't have the same impact. I actually found a lot of it cringe on a second viewing. Expecting the same from this one.

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
Cautiously optimistic. Waititi can lay it on a bit thick at times, hoping he's restrained here like he was in Ragnarok and doesn't just go balls to the wall with his zaniness. As for complaints about Lady Thor: people won't care, it's a comic book movie, have fun.

Parody of actual AJUMP23
I will say Thor...Hemsworth is the most popular avenger with the women in my Church Sunday School class.

I had that same experience. I loved it in the theater and when I finally watched it a second time with my wife, it had almost no impact. I am usually the other way on movies where I am more critical round one, but not on this one.
I still think it's top-tier Marvel more for the fact that you can actually tell it had a director with style. Can't say that for a lot of the Marvel movies, but they are consistent at least.

Trailer is very underwhelming for me. The comics story they are using for this is probably my favorite Marvel run, and it clearly isn't going to get the treatment it deserves. Instead of serious thematic treatment and thoughtful visuals, we're getting "funny" jokes and cinematography that seems like a mixed bag at best. Some of the shots in the trailer look good (Thor going up that little rock thing to mediate is fine, and the nighttime-torches scene could be great with a few tweaks) but some (the stupid battle-ropes scene, the one where Thor is yelling before a battle probably at the start of the movie with the GotG) look really, really rough. Why Marvel insists on making their main character dress in the same color as the background, with no lighting on them, I'll never understand. And the shot of the dead god (the dinosaur-looking thing) just ruins a very good visual from the comic by muting the color palette.

Edit: Jane Thor looks good in that last shot. I am EXTREMELY unhappy with the Gorr design.

I would love to get a comics-accurate God Butcher movie with this guy playing Thor.

That says nothing of the content of the film itself. Hemsworth getting jacked is standard. A great diet and peds will do that for you.
But that’s the thing the idiots who don’t read comics and rant about Jane Thor on YouTube don’t understand. The Jane cancer storyline led to one of the greatest Odinson Thor runs EVER (Unworthy Thor) and in no way “emasculated” him. Fuck it made Thor better than ever and the current Cates run, while fun, will never live up to Jason Aaron’s years which are the best Thor comics since Simonsen.

These MCU films tend not to be that comics accurate though. Unless you got a script in hand it's hard to say how closely this movie will be to any of that. They could very well punk out Thor.

Hemsworth is the only one of the original Avengers willing to stay on and continue to make movies (due to Taika). They aren’t “punking” him out.

This trailer is...weird. The song doesn't fit at all and the editing feels cheap.

The movie can be good but this trailer lacks hype.

My money is either Multiverse shenanigans or Time Travel.

Or maybe both!

Apparently from descriptions of scenes
The shattered remains of Mjolnir are now on a pedestal created by the Asgardians where it was destroyed/where Odin died. When Jane is here for whatever reason she touches one of the pieces which causes all the remains to reform while turning her into She-Thor.

It was in one of the interviews for special effects that had a picture of Portman lifted in the air with a bluescreen behind here to "convulse as if she was being given power".

They had also mentioned that the movie would have a reappearance of the Ragnarok Asgardian Loki play actors to use to get the audience up to speed.

Spoiler from the post above.

I would watch a limited series of the Asgardian Community Theater Troupe.

Would bet that She-Thor is going to be stronger, faster and more intelligent than He-Thor, who has perfected his fighting skills over millennia, from the day she becomes Thor. Repeating the mistake of Captain Marvel.

(Yes this is actually her)

Being ripped is one thing, but this is f*cking ridiculous.

Portman is like 40 years old. At that age you don't build muscle like that without heavy use of steroids, especially not the biceps. Hollywood virtue signaling about unrealistic body standard while promoting this crap is blatantly hypocritical. The same goes for Hemsworth who is really starting to look absolutely ridiculous putting on so much mass.

Is Marvel planning to open a steroid factory, or why are they promoting this sh*t? I get it, superheroes are supposed to look buff, but superheroes are also not real people. What works in comics, doesn't necessarily work with real life actors. At least bodybuilders like Coleman and Platz are honest about it and aren't even trying to promote their bodies as a realistic standard.

Movie stars use drugs and surgery to look perfect for their roles?

I can't believe it, they should all be sued for tricking us this long!!

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
What is with people misunderstanding me today?
:(

I very clearly said that not every phase 4 film and show will deal with time travel or the multiverse. And that I'm doubting Love and Thunder will, it doesn't need to to explain Jane. The hint is in Mjolnir, it's reforged together, the universe is filled with magic and advanced technology, why is time travel or multiverse required to fix it?
Actually, I completely see what you're saying and generally agree. But if Olympus is in this doesn't that technically make it part of the multiverse as that it might be a different dimension?

Plus if this is about the slaying of gods it's safe to say we might see different dimensions / Realms of Gods.

When I hear multiverse I don't think of just parallel Earths but any dimension outside of ours such as Mephisto's Realm or whatever.

That is unless they treat Olympus like they did Asgard in the MCU and just make it a different world in our universe or whatever.

Edit: I like the more crazier cosmic Marvel so this looks like fun but the same Marvel silliness unfortunately. Will also see for Gor the God Butcher. I wonder if they have planned for Knull in the distant Marvel Cinematic Universe future or even referenced in this movie?

For those who don't know, if I remember correctly Gor's blade originated from Knull.

(Knull is the god of the Symbiotes who came from the Living Abyss, a realm that existed before the current universe)

Very much this. Instead we are getting a new 2015 Fan4tic Doctor Doom.

NGL. This deflates my hype quite a bit for the movie.
"Welding a strange and terrifying weapon."

So, maybe they will eventually hint or reveal it's Knull's Everblack Blade.

Knull as a major future MCU antagonist has me intrigued. He kinda makes Thanos look like a pussycat.

O make no mistake, she is still incredibly ripped. Look at those arms in that third image, it's not even a press photo or something but just a casual shot from the set.

Those arms are HUGE.

I'm not saying she hasn't put muscle on but in another photo she doesn't look as buff, could just be an angle and lighting thing or the way she was moving.

Valkyrie seems to be holding all his masculine traits and is taking over running the kingdom.
Thor refused the role when offered by Odin and refused again because of his attitude towards the role, it's made clear Thor doesn't like that role as he can't stay in one place ruling others, that's why the only time he's shown in the role is as "Fat" Thor in Endgame because he's depressed. Even now in the trailer we see that it was the better choice as Valkyrie looks bored af in the role and most likely jumps ship too. Thor is a "party boy" at heart, over the course of the movies he's shown to be less and less arrogant and more accepting of who he is, he wants to be out there fighting for the good, he wants constant adventure. How is that NOT masculine?

Gorr looks different because he has been retconned to be related to the engineers from Prometheus. Disney owns the Alien franchise so they can now do this.

Jason Aaron balanced it out by currently writing one of the worst Avengers runs in years. Everything was Phoenix.

Nah, the 9 realms of Norse mythology and Olympus etc are in the one reality. Theoretically each reality will have it's own Asgard, Olympus, Mephisto and I think even Eternity etc.

Knull might be tied up in Spider-Man licensing so no idea if we'll see him in the MCU.

Knull is one of those where I don't know if the movie rights are with Sony or Marvel. He first appeared in a Thor comic, but he has what can be interpreted as a Spider looking thing on his chest and his main antagonists apparently are symbiotes (not sure since I never read comics with him). If the latter two assumptions are correct then the movie rights belong to Sony, if not they belong to Marvel.
