Those new upgraded graphics are coming to DriveClub Gif inside

With the speed of the game I don't understand why they add stuff that you won't really notice while driving. I'd rather see them removing some stuff to get 60fps.
You'll get 60 frames and lessened effects with the vr version, assuming they actually decide to make it more than just a demo. No point in making the standard version of the game look worse for everyone else just to appease the very small amount of people who care about framerate.

I did read your whole comment. No need to be a jerk. Drive club has improved far more than, say, terraria...or TF2. Yes TF2 added waaaaay more content, but in some ways drive club was shit at launch. Now it's not.

I never could understand why they put so much effort into graphical gimmicks while DC is a blurry mess ingame and runs only with 30 frames. Looking great on screens, but only average when running.
This is straight bullshit. DriveClub till today is the most realistic looking game ever made. It's butter smooth and unbealiveable beautifull. Also its excellent game. Best racer in years in fact :P Love it to death.

I haven't played all the above games, but DC has added or improved more than any game I can remember. New modes (SP nd MP), tours, new tracks, track types, new cars, classes, settings, tweaks, audio changes and options, graphics improvements, UI options, dynamic weather, photo mode, game balance changes, control options, gameplay changes, new experience and level up systems and so on and so on. Basically everything possible lol.

You obviously didn't since you forgot the "improvements" part of it. Also Driveclub doesn't come within a mile of the improvements and content that Terraria has released post launch or Tf2 for that matter which is in a whole other galaxy when it comes to improvements and content. Driveclub still has many of the same issues that got it the bad review scores at launch.

I'd personally rather they not add stuff and work on hitting 60fps. I can only imagine they continue to work on DC because of VR or a potential sequel that's in the works.

What a stupid thing to be fighting about. Why doesn't someone just make a thread about the most improved game.

Does anyone have some insight as to how this technique works?

At least one of the games he mentioned, Warframe, has added more in my experience. Then again that game has been out longer, and on PC, and it's on an F2P approach.

The game now is virtually unrecognizable from day one with a huge level of depth and polish and overhaul in every aspect. DC has also advanced tremendously, but it still feels the same, just more of it, if that makes sense. It was solid day one, and it's been expanded and refined, but not overhauled in the same way for the better. Not that it needs it. It started off as a much better game than Warframe did on day one.

And this technique is neat. I imagine we'll start seeing it in other games too. I can just see shooters using it on wall/rock textures.

So is this going to be a noticeable improvement ingame while racing or just pictures? Evo also needs to rerelease the game with all updates on a new disc but they said not to count on a rerelease ever happening because the update files are big....

That does indeed make sense. I think DriveClub has seen massive improvements and added content instead of a complete re-working or overhaul because the core set up and gameplay was so solid to begin with. It just needed refinement and more content, which is what it received, as you mentioned.

Not going to argue. Read your comment. Disagreed that those games made more improvements. Have a great day.

Well according to the tweet, they're just testing this on the cobblestone, but it can be applied to other texture types. So if they ever do a more robust rollout of the technique, the graphics in theory can be improved quite a bit.

Also, depending on the performance cost, this could (in theory) be a gain. But I have no idea lol.

Lol good ol DriveClub threads. Always a haven for mindless shitposts.

Best looking ( and playing tbh ) racer keeps getting better. What a glorious game. So much fun. Can't wait to see the update on my screen

It may have to fight Destiny for that title.

Yeah, but aren't most of Destiny's improvements part of $40-60 dollar expansions while DriveClub's improvements are mostly free updates?

Not even close. Games Like Terraria, Minecraft, TF2, LoL, Path of Exile, Warframe, etc etc have had far far more content and improvements since launch.

Most of the titles you listed are free-to-play games, so they have different development and business models.Comparisons to other $60 dollar retail games would be more fair.

At this point I'd just take a bumped up framerate. The game looks brilliant as is.

Also, if Sony doesn't give Evo a shot at a Motorstorm by the end of this gen I'm gonna be maaaaaaaad.

Agreed. It's amazing how every time i turn it on there's something new or improved.

But lets be honest, it was bare bones when it launched. A lot of the things missing, like weather, replays, car variety, are usually standard in these kind of games.

You are right, Evo have done a great job of supporting the game post launch, but I'm not really fond of fawning over devs who release a game with the bare minimum content and then patch it up with stuff that should have been there in the first place.

To have such quality textures universally in games... I just wanna live in a time where huge open world sandbox games can feature the full graphical fidelity of games like Crysis 3 etc.

Whilst true, I believe they've gone above and beyond expectations in that regard. I mean, I've been playing it for over a year and I'm still not close to being bored of it. I don't think there's a single other racing game I've ever been able to say that about. So I say keep the content and improvements coming!

What people don't quite seem to be getting though, is that Evolution studios is part of a huge team under the Sony WWS branch. Developing graphic techniques is way more important in the long run than axing a bunch of stuff to hit a higher framerate. I highly doubt that if they went and doubled the framerate, people would just be blitzing the stores to get their hands on a copy.

Any techniques developed can benefit future projects.

Let's try not to get derailed here folks...

let's talk about this SSPOM stuff..is there any other released game that uses it or something similar?

would they have to be picky in where they use it? can it look great up close on a different material, but when the camera zoomed back, would it not look as nice..and more so distracting?

I disagree. Many of the issues that plagued DC have been resolved. The game is much better than when it launched. It is a fantastic game that is only getting better.

The vast majority of people playing this game, NFS, Forza Horizon, and those who played PGR back in the day, plus any other 30fps racers, don't care about it. Of the people who own and play 30fps racers, only a minority are clamoring for 60 frames. Everyone else are enjoying actually playing the games and basking in the glory of stunning visuals.

Pretty cool but pretty useless.

Better AF would help a lot.
Better AA would help a lot as well, at least on cars.

We won't see that effect anywhere but from outside of the car... And not moving. It's kind of a waste of ressources.

I don't get these posts, the game has solid AA. It didn't at launch, but it's been massively improved IQ wise since launch.

I've seen this claim multiple times but has it actually ever been proved?

Completely agree.
