Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

Having the Titan smoke behind a BS threshold is infuriating. You either sit there and take it in hopes you'll catch the pilot or get out and risk getting shot to hell due to the amount of time it takes to land and reacquire the target once you're out.

I decided to purchase the original Titanfall for the PC from Origin for a whopping $10 and I have to admit that I'm having quite a bit of fun with the game, even if there is only a maximum of 700 players online at once and they're all playing Attrition :P

After playing the original and watching several of the Titanfall 2 tech test videos, it's readily obvious how much they've slowed the game down. My deepest and most sincere condolences to all of you Titanfall vets.
Yeah I haven't tried the new game yet but I've put countless into that PC version. I am downloading the PS4 tech test right now to finally see what all the fuss has been about this week. Hoping it's still fun but we'll see...

I'd be into playing PC w/u sometime

I played some more Titanfall 2 today and whilst I noticed the improvements, this is still not Titanfall.

- Bring back attrition.

- Still not sold on the battery system. Make it optional?

- The map design on this new level is kind of whatever.

I'm not going to pretend Titanfall was perfect but that game had a certain level of excitement that this game just can't match.

DELAY THE GAME!!!

It's going to get killed by Battlefield 1 and to a lessor extent, Call of Duty. Just release it in March like the original so it can stand out. Use the delay to re-design those maps.

Just played with someone named Respawn_wanz who camped on rooftops the entire match and shot people from there. Hope he's not one of your dev guys ;)

Good thing amping hardpoints is a thing, I can just sit here all day.

lulz Respawn plz

Lesser extent?

Dude, there's not only one COD game this year, there's TWO, and one is a remaster of one the greatest games ever made.

COD is going to be a fucking Leviathan this year.

But yeah, TF2 needs to GTFO of 2016 asap, and move over to January

I'm losing sleep over this shit. It feels like a CoD developer wanted to make a Titanfall clone. I know that's meta as fuck if you think about it, but it really feels like that.

Whatever I thought Respawn were, they're not showing here.

Maybe if the OG Titanfall wasn't rushed we wouldn't have gotten such a classic and clean game. I honestly don't see the "sequel" in this game.

This feels like they over thought all the elements in the game. It is like they focused on those players that didn't like or play the first one instead of looking into why people were still playing it and making that accessible to everyone else.

Damn, I wasn't expecting to judge the game this much. Compared to the first game, I had no fun with this game. The map and movement are just... flat. Its so calm, dare I say: boring. Titans felt useless, its so strange.

The guns are very satisfying though, the sounds are addictive to hear as well. The grappling hook works so well, but like many people have suggested: It should just be for everyone, not a perk. An addition to your pilots movement.

I don't see this game doing well with what I've seen, I'm sad since I was looking forward to this game. Good luck Respawn.

Titanfall 3 coming 2018, only instead of CoD it'll play like Overwatch

The wall running feels better than the beta, which I already thought was good and I like the addition of the Titan timer. I still hate the maps and would rather play Call of Duty due to these maps. They are so big and wide and reminds me of Ghost, which is not a complement at all. I highly doubt the other maps are really that much better than the three maps provided in this test since betas/alphas in the past for other games usually has some of their best maps to test out.

As a person new to Titanfall, I might just rent this instead, unless the single player is really that good.

I didn't play the first one, but so far I'm having a blast with this game.

Jumping into your Titan and just blowing shit up is awesome.

Gunplay feels good, I like the weight the guns have to them, they don't feel like typical CoD pea shooters.

Day one for me.

I was defending the game last week, but something clicked. It's easy enough for them to tweak most complaints, but tuning the movement to any end will not fix how awful the maps flow.

The maps are actually what break it for me.

So hard to play cat and mouse when everyone is just funneled into the same areas, especially with Bounty Hunt helping out with that.

I'm hoping that maybe the release maps will be more like TF1 or at least the post launch support..which is putting this game solidly in the "I'll get it on sale or later next year." column.

Also,

Who the hell put areas in the middle of the map that are 'out of bounds'. They are easily reachable, they are not on the edge of the map and they allow access across areas of the map. If you didn't want people shooting through them put a wall there.

If you did want people shooting through them, why the hell are they out of bounds?

It's little stuff like this that just screams lazy. Like, what visual hint have I been given that I am not supposed to go there? It's very easy to get to and does not appear to be substantively different than terrain I am allowed to chill in.

Really, really stupid. Completely agree.

This game isn't fun at all. there is no way I'm getting this at launch.

Same. My head still hurts thinking about how disappointing this is. Just one month ago I was so set on getting this day one due to how much I loved the first game. Most disappointing sequel this gen by far for me -- possibly of all time in terms of gaming (though I hate to sound like I'm going overboard).

Put some more time into it and I think I get what people were complaining about. As someone who didn't play very much if any TF1 (and what I did play was the 360 version lol) the game just feels too random to me. It's the same issues I've had with the recent CoD games. TTK is def a problem too. The moment you get hit you die before you have a chance to figure out where it came from and react. It's just a lot of die/respawn/die/respawn which is not what I like out of a MP FPS and never really have. I might need to look towards the CoD MW remaster for my MP FPS fix this fall.

The beta is simply NOT fun to me. I wasn't the biggest TF1 fan but I liked it somewhat on PC. it was fun and frantic from what little I played. This?? It's like it looks like TF but plays like something that was made by a B team. It just doesn't feel fun. Maps are too big and open, TTK is REALLY low and everything about the game feels soulless. Matches are quiet and boring.

So what did they change/add in this weekend's version? I doubt I'll download it again, but I'm curious.

Same here. I remember running all about and having multiple avenues to get to my objective. All the fighting in this occurs in the same areas. It's pretty miserable to play on the maps as they stand. I feel like they encourage camping even more. Especially with the game modes.

I dunno, guys. All this feedback still feels contradictory to me.

That and didn't you all watch their pre-game video that talked about R2? Boomtown is a "dense urban map", get with the narrative.

Still working, going to get on tonight, oddly looking forward to it to see if I hate as much as last week. At least it made me re-install Titanfall 1.

That and I still wonder, if the original didn't exist, would I be as annoyed? I don't think so.

This is the one design decision that is completely baffling to me.

I fucking hate the entire "out of bounds" gimmick in the first place. Now they just shatter these kill zones all over the map. It makes no sense at all.

I cannot for the life of me understand the map designs for TF2. It's like they were made for a completely different game. Every map has some sort of wide open space that isn't conducive to parkouring at all. Also, I'm convinced that Homegrown is just about the worst possible map that could've been put into a game where wall running is a key part of traversal.

I'm leaning "Wait for Sale" on this one. BF1 will more than likely get my shooter money this fall.

This definitely still has its moments purely due to solid as hell mechanics.

But maaaaan the maps are a huge bummer. I was really hoping the third map would give me more hope for the final game but it's homestead-tier. There's too many things pulling me out of the moment.

When I enemy use a grappling hook on your titan, how do you take him off you?

If they just grapple and pull in they go straight forward so you can just punch them. Once they're on your back you have smoke you can unlock and use with the dpad based off your charge percent, otherwise hope someone hits them off. Also try to watch teammates since they might be having the same thing happen.

Though in honesty even if they do rodeo and take the battery, they always jump off behind you and have an icon on them. I actually just let it happen, kill them, and take the battery since it benefits you.

Title should be changed to "maybetitanfall"

Bounty hunt is trash compared to attrition.

Map design is also absolutely terrible compared to tf1

Trying to give it another shot. I really dislike that almost everyone is a robot.

I see why they put the outline on enemies. The readability is shit.

Yup. Never picking up another CoD again. Everything feels so satisfying. Meleeing, throwing nades, head shots, guns have amazing feedback, movement is smooth and fluid, the slide is awesome.

Free maps and game modes

Played one match for the 2nd weekend and the game is still trash compared to the first. It seems watered down and they made a bunch of changes I don't remember anyone asking for. Who asked for the enemies to be highlighted in bright orange? I'm pretty much done and going to skip this game unless they make some serious changes. Wish they would have had titanfall 1 a preorder bonus so the PS4 players could see what i'm talking about.

If one of your mechanic is "get out of your titan to get your battery back" your animation need to be smoother and faster than it is right now.

Is the kraber like a joke weapon or what?

Been trying but it's pretty terrible.

Game is awesome. I am seeing how bounty hunt has a similar cadence and pace to attrition without being as chaotic.

I do hope there are some angel city like maps in the full game too though.

Not overboard at all.

Titanfall 1 is the best multiplayer shooter of all time. Flaws and all. So yeah, this is comfortably the most disappointing sequel of all time. As I've said before, it's the video game equivalent of the Clash of the Titans remake.

Is the Titan with a Machine gun back?

Don't like rockets and the like on them in the original Titanfall.

So much easier to kill pilots and bots with the machine guns.

It's amazing with all the stuff the game has going for it, it gets completely killed by the crappy TTK and awful maps.

It's got dozens of great things, but these two bad things just ruin the game.

I guess this fall will just be Destiny and Battlefield.

Another thing I'd like to see them change is titans multitasking. Shooting a laser from it's shoulder should not prevent a titan from reloading.
