Has anyone's game ever crashed back to the desktop without an .exe error?

I was playing attrition on Demeter and I froze but the game itself was still running. I thought it was a network issue as I'd had a fair few grey server retry boxes appear. The game then just died and went to the desktop. Plus I was having a really good match which made it quite annoying.

Is there a trick to getting pilot kills with the 40 mm cannon? I can rip them apart with the chaingun but for the life of me I'll shoot at a running leaping pilot 5 times and miss every time.

The newest Nvidia drivers (337.50) cause the screen to be split in half horizontally, with the bottom half displaying a normal image. Only for Titanfall. For me. GTX 590, i7-2600k @4.4GHz, 16GB RAM, WIN 7.

Restore the game default profile using nvidia inspector. Maybe you are forcing SFR sli and that's not compatible with new drivers. BTW, those older profiles don't provide a real overall improvement in framerate, use single gpu and triplebuffer with d3doverrider instead.

It's become my favorite Titan weapon after being my least favorite before.

You have to play a little more tactically, so it might be best for a Stryder. Try to use distance more thana nything. the 40MM from a distance will wreck any Titan, you can be on the opposite side of the map and take them down. Also, aim for the weak spots -- the head, the pulsing back, and any other areas. These are very easy to hit with the cannon, more so than the other less accurate guns. Use smoke on titans... Sprint up behind one, drop smoke, and then sprint away to start firing. Try LTS mode first, it's the best way to get used to the gun because you can target at other players from a distance.

With pilots, aim for the ground around them, not at them. The explosion is what kills them and it's too difficult to hit one point blank (when you do it's awesome, but it's hard and rare, not worth the effort). I usually aim at the ground or wall where a pilot is running.

The burst fire is more effective against pilots, but IMO, less effective against Titans because missing a shot means you have to wait.

Haha. Wow, I almost went to bed instead of finishing my legit Gooser, and now I'm glad I didn't.

My final goose:

http://youtu.be/ZfJh0tnAqu8

One of the easiest as it turns out. I didn't have many when the guy just ejected and didn't alter his trajectory and/or cloak like that. As far as the Arc Cannon w/ Capacitor vs Chaingun discussion earlier... I'm going to say chaingun is probably a bit easier to get the kills with. I think I made 2 shots that would never have happened with the chaingun, but missed out on maybe 5 that would have almost certainly happened with chaingun that the arc cannon made me fail on.

Okay this fixed it. I thought I had actually reset the Inspector profile last night, but I forgot to Apply changes. So thanks.

I average playing Titanfall about 2 hours a week since it has been released. If that. I am at Level 27.

Either I have just really lost my touch at playing FPS's, which is absolutely a possibility and one in which I do not deny could very well be the case, and/or this is a FPS that really favors those who put in the time to take the time to learn the maps, etc.
I absolutely acknowledge the fact that time is the key factor to being successful in a FPS is the more you play, the better you get.

However I still feel there are some FPS's out there that one can still remain at least somewhat competitive without putting in the time. Battlefield immediately comes to mind. Even though I do not have the time to put in with it, I still can have fun playing it. I do not feel completely useless. Then again I have played BF since its inception, so even though it has changed over the years, I still am very familiar with the core gameplay and approach.

With Titanfall I do not get this feeling at all. Especially as of late I am pretty much ALWAYS the bottom player now.

I did try the matchmaking Beta option to find some matches. It seemed to do nothing at all except throw me in servers where the game lagged all over the place. I was still on teams where everyone was at least Gen 2 or whatever it is.

So I want to enjoy Titanfall, I really do, but due to my time constraints and interest in still playing other games, I really cannot enjoy playing it. It also seems as if, right now at least, the matchmaking aspect of it does not work at all.

I fear the world of online MP's has just passed me by. Or is there somehow a way to create a FPS that one can still remain competitive while playing it without putting in the same amount of hours that everyone else that is playing it does? Will the matchmaking aspect every get fixed? Or will it not even matter.

I just wish there was a clear way to play the game with others like myself, who play it casually here and there when they can. I know I would have fun then, as when the game was first release I held my own, even got 3 MVP's somehow. But as the weeks have gone by since its release, and my time is still extremely limited, I now find myself playing a game I have zero fun with as I cannot compete.

Not sure why I bothered sharing this as I am sure anyone who is active in this thread is in the exact opposite situation of myself and is playing the hell out of it. But perhaps there are a few people in a similar situation, and I guess I am looking to see if they are also experiencing a similar situation, or if the truth of the matter is I just no longer have what it takes to play against others online.

Any news on Xbox One performance issues be fixed in this update or a future update?

Thanks

Yes this please. There was talk of performance gains and/or resolution increase for XB1 just before release, but it's been very quiet on this front for the entire month. What's going on with this?

Oddly enough i have the opposite experience regarding Battlefield.

I feel overwhelmed with the large maps, multiple vehicles and the objectives. Is it just a difference where Titanfall is more twitch-based and BF is more strategic/team-focused?

Microsoft was INCREDIBLY smart for locking down Titanfall 1 exclusivity....cant imagine how XB1 sales would have looked without it

starting to play this on X1 finally (bought day one).

Super fun, frantic game. Lots of level ups and challenge completes. Definitely nothing like Halo, which is my go-to FPS. But great in its own way.

My only complaint is it's not a good team game. The maps are too big with too many spectres to kill rather than actual humans. Hard to call out anything. Definitely not a symmetrical arena style game, at all. Which it's not trying to be, so that's OK.

Anyone using doing the longbow challenges and having a problem with the using the gun I recommend switching to the aog scope and using it like a mid range semi auto rifle. Two shot kills like that are clutch.

I personally think that Last Titan Standing is the most strategic and teamwork-oriented mode in the game.

If you need to reset the profile after new driver install process, I guess you're not using the 'clean install' option. I recommend you to use that option, although you have to restore a few profiles after it finish install process (using nvinspector options).

.

as a late 30s gamer who was never that good at fps to begin with, i hear you! Inwas constantly bottom but with a few tweaks i am now often mid table, and on hardpoint I'm often top.

A couple of things for me:
- Recognise I'm terrible at twitch reactions and aiming, so my pilot tactical ability is ALWAYS the 'see through walls' one. If it's a frenetic match with roof campers and so on, I'll hide somewhere until it's up, use it to identify a target (grunt or pilot), and go get 'em.

- i.e. Don't play the game as 'always moving, run gun and die '

- Play the variety pack playlist, you may be suited to one style of game more than others. Hardpoint is fairly easy to come high up as lots of people ignore capturing / holding and treat it like a deathmatch still

- use loadouts. My hardpoint loadouts have a titan with triplethreat (good for room clearing) and arc mines (leave them on the hardpoibt entrance)

- burn cards are awesome. E.g. Use a stim / fast run bc for capture the flag or hardpoint. Use the "permanent tactical pulse" card if you are able to spawn into a titan - amazing to be in a titan and see through walls

- play campaign mode, there tends to be newer players in there

hope those few pointers help

- edit - one more - make your titan last. Have electric smoke equipped. Always. Don't be afraid to run away. Pick off grunts to get your titan asap and then make the most of it

Yup, the Campaign is noob-central. If you suck at the game, you may find players of more similar skill there.

I felt bad going in there to farm Charge Rifle Crits from the Auto-Titan, but it was effective.

Question - can you friendly fire other titans? I know my triple threat hurts me when it explodes, what about cannons / rockets / elec smoke on your team mates?

Could sombody with the Xbone version post a video where you can clearly hear Spyglass talking? I think they changed the voice since I played it at PAX last year, but I'm wondering if it's just the 360 version for some reason?

Good tips.

I pretty much suck at Fps now I'm in my mid 30's but consistently finish in the top 3 in TF. My stats say 48 rounds played with 18 Mvp and 34 top 3 places. My Kd ratio is 3.95.

Granted that will go down as people devote more time to the game (360 version just released,) but if you utilize your burn cards and refrain from run and gun, you can do quite well as an average player.

4/10/2014 Patch Update Details

NEW FEATURES (All Platforms)

Private Match (beta) - This is the first public test of our new Private Match mode. This gives you a way to organize matches with and against your friends, for casual or tournament play. Some features are unfinished or not yet implemented, and we welcome your feedback. A few highlights:

• Private Match supports 2 to 12 players, with 1 to 6 players on each team.
• You can start a new Private Match lobby by choosing it on the main selection screen (alongside Campaign, MP, and Training). Invite your friends in or have them join you at any time.
• Choose any of the game's maps or modes (CTF, Pilot Hunter, etc.) to play in.
• Choose which team you're on.
• There is no XP gain, challenge progress, or achievement unlocking while in a Private Match. For this beta, the Last Game Summary screen will display what you would have earned in normal play outside of Private Match, but be aware that this progress will not be recorded to your lifetime total.
• For this beta, there is no concept of a "lobby leader"; any player can change game options in the lobby or start/stop the match countdown.
• All Private Match games are still played on dedicated servers via Xbox Live Cloud Compute, just like normal matches.
• New options like round time, score limits, and much more will come in future updates.

Party Colors - Your party members and their titans now show up on the mini-map with green colors, instead of the normal blue colors that other friendlies use. Their names are also drawn in green on your HUD, the obituary text, and in the pre-game lobby. This helps you figure out where your friends are and what they're up to, especially in the heat of combat.

Auto-Titan Color in Obituary - Your auto-titan's name now shows up in the obituary with the gold color that your own name does. Previously it had the same blue color as any other friendly. This makes it easier to keep tabs on how your titan is doing.

Removed Wall-hack Exploit - PC cheaters were able to modify their local configuration files to enable a sort of wall-hack cheat using legit game code. We've closed the exploit that they were using.

Menu Changes - "Play Multiplayer" is now the default (top) option on the private lobby menu, if you've completed both the IMC and Militia campaigns. It has also been renamed from "Play Classic", since the term "classic", which we used internally, proved to be confusing to some players.

Game Version on Main Menu - The main menu now displays the game's version in the bottom-left corner. Now you don't have to wonder if you really do have the latest version of the game, and we can use that to double-check things if support is helping you troubleshoot issues.

NEW FEATURES (Xbox One)

Party App Shortcut in Menus - Added a shortcut on all menus that opens the Xbox One's "Party" app by pressing Left Trigger on the controller, similar to the existing Right Trigger shortcut that invites friends. You can then press 'B' to close it when you're done, or leave it up. (This is much easier than the manual method of going to the Home screen, opening "My games & apps", selecting Apps, scrolling a few screens over to the "Party" app, and opening it.)

GAME BALANCE CHANGES

The Gooser Challenge - Based on recent feedback from fans of the game, the Gen 5 challenge requirement 'Gooser', requiring players to kill 50 ejecting pilots, will be reduced to 5 total. We had a couple of design goals for Regeneration. One was to give players a structured way to discover and experience ways of playing the game they might not have otherwise tried on their own. The second was to recognize players' mastery of various skills, going beyond just 'time played'. We went a bit too far with this challenge, especially considering the unique conditions that have to be met just to have the opportunity to get a kill on an ejecting Pilot. We understand some players have already completed the challenge, or have already earned more than the new requirement so we will be internally noting those players so we can recognize their accomplishments in a future game update.

40mm magazine capacity for default and Extended Mag – The default magazine size was making the 40mm too powerful. It is intended to be the only weapon that can take a Titan down without reloading, if used skillfully. However, 20 rounds per magazine were proving to be too high and overly tolerant of indiscriminate fire. We’ve reduced it to 12 rounds per magazine, which still allows players to take a Titan down without reloading, but helps balance it out against other Titan weapons. The extended mag has also been dropped from 25 to 16, with the same design principles applying to this change.

Titan Quad Rocket mag size change – During development, there was a time when the Quad Rocket was too powerful. We made a lot of changes to pull it back before shipping (lessened the screen shake impact, lessened the duration of the first person impact FX, lowered the magazine size, pulled the damage back, etc.) It currently can struggle against other Titan weapons and going back to the 5/6 (default/extended mag) magazine sizes helps balance the weapon and allows players to miss a few shots and still be effective. It was 4/5, now its 5/6.

Titan Quad Rocket damage vs Titan shields – It was taking too long to drop a Titans shields with the Quad Rocket (5 shots). This meant you had to reload before you could even drop an enemy Titan’s shields. This was the only Titan weapon that had this issue. We’ve now upped the damage against Titan shields so that it can drop a shield with 4 shots. Combined with the increased mag size, this damage increase effectively gives you one more volley in the mag to deal serious direct hull damage.

Titan Quad Rocket 'Rapid Fire' Mod's mag size change – We upped the magazine size for the Quad Rocket's Rapid Fire Mod to help it compete with the changes made to the extended magazine (from 5 to 6). The Rapid Fire Mod’s magazine size is going up from 16 to 18.

Amped Kraber Titan damage change – We upped the damage that the Amped Kraber Burn Card does to Titans. It is now the only significantly effective “small arms” weapon against Titans. Note that this only applies to the Amped version of the Kraber. The damage goes up from 100 to 800. We added this to give the Kraber Burn Card a little bit more character, as well as to give you something to shoot if you have a hard time hitting those little Pilots with the Kraber. So snipe away at those Titans…before they kill you!

Hardpoint Domination scoring changes – We wanted to reward and encourage players to go out and capture enemy hardpoints. As important as defending a hardpoint is, capturing them is more important and a tougher task, generally speaking. We did not want to completely remove points for defending, but attacking players were getting too little credit for their efforts. Here is a breakdown of the changes:
• Capturing a hardpoint from 150 to 250
• Assisting in capturing a hardpoint from 75 to 100
• Neutralizing a hardpoint from 50 to 150
• Assisting in neutralizing a hardpoint from 25 to 75
• Killing a player inside an enemy hardpoint from outside (nearby) from 75 to 50
• Killing a player inside an enemy hardpoint from outside (far) from 75 to 50
• Killing a player inside an enemy hardpoint from inside the hardpoint from 75 to 50
• Killing an NPC inside an enemy hardpoint from inside the hardpoint from 25 to 10
• Killing a player outside of a friendly hardpoint whilst inside of a hardpoint from 75 to 50
• Killing a player inside of a friendly hardpoint whilst inside of a hardpoint from 75 to 50
• Killing an NPC outside of a friendly hardpoint whilst inside of a hardpoint from 25 to 10
• Killing an NPC inside of a friendly hardpoint whilst inside of a hardpoint from 25 to 10
• Defending a hardpoint now goes from 75 to 25

CTF scoring changes – We wanted to make sure the big payoff in CTF came from capturing the flag. Killing the carrier and then returning the flag was worth 400 points (combined), while capturing the flag was worth 500 points in comparison. These changes are meant to reward players who capture the flag a bit more than those who kill the carrier and return the flag. Defense is still a very important aspect of CTF so we wanted to make sure to keep defending points high enough to still encourage playing defense. Here is a breakdown of the changes:
• Capturing a flag from 500 to 400
• Returning the flag from 250 to 100
• Killing the flag carrier from 150 to 100

BUG FIXES (All Platforms)

• Fixed an issue where a Titan firing ordnance would not show on the minimap correctly.

• Fixed a case where a Pilot could embark a Titan through walls.
• Spitfire LMG and XO-16 firing sounds will no longer sometimes cut off before the gun is finished firing.

Nice update - the 40mm was my favorite Titan gun, but I think it'll still be useful. And interesting change to quad rockets. Might see more of them now.

I was holding off on this game until I could see what the xbox 360 version was like. Don't want to buy a gaming PC or a console for 1 game. Anyway, after reading about the 360 version yesterday I decided to pick it up. Holy lord, this game is so damn fun! I played for a few hours last night and they just flew by. This is one of those rare games that I could see myself playing for 6-8 hours straight. Wow.

Damn I wanted some performance stuff and a proper solution to matchmaking problems. Also I really thought the satchel charge would get a nerf, the arming time needs to be longer so players can't just throw them down mid fight for an instakill. Guess the rest of the update is good for those waiting on private matches.

Looks like they fucking Beast Moded the Quad Rockets.

Also excited to try out the Amped Kraber, just for shits and giggles.

I think it's funny that they couldn't manage to squeeze custom class renaming in there.
