Titanfall requires Origin.

I don't have a problem with Origin, you open it, press play on your game and never see it until you play the next time. It's sad some people would miss out on a game like Titanfall for something as silly as what client it uses.

The other only EA Partners games to require Origin are Crysis 3 (for now) and Syndicate (expected as it's an EA-owned IP). Some were hoping that Titanfall would fall in with the majority of other EAP titles even though it's the first externally-developed game EA has bothered to throw its weight behind.

Well then, I humbly apologize. I haven't used Origin that much outside of playing some demos a few months back, so I haven't really looked at the EAP restrictions. I made the mistake in assuming most of them since EA stopped releasing products on Steam were restricted by and large to Origin.

Well, yeah. It's unfortunate, but I expected no less for such a massive title.
EA got me to install Origin with their Humble sale - TitanFall should be good enough to justify it.

I have no problem with Origin; in fact, I quite prefer it over Steam (recommending me games on the basis of what I already play, rather than Steam seemingly only recommending me games because Valve wants them to sell or because it's the trendy thing to play; not locking my computer up when I go to shut my computer down, allowing refunds, etc.).

This game, however, doesn't really fit my tastes, so while it would be nice to help them pick up some lost sales, I'm not a fan of mechs.

Edit: A friend informed me that they changed the EULA and this is no longer accurate. However the fact that they still did this to begin with set a very wrong precedence.

They changed for the better, like Valve did with Steam, so how is that a bad thing? Straight from the horses mouth on the Origin.com, for Canada at least.

"What types of data does EA collect through Origin?

There are two types of information that are always collected through Origin:

(1) System interaction data essential to the continued operation of Origin. This includes anonymous crash reports (including the time and approximate location of the crash); hardware specification data (information about your device’s CPU, graphics card, display, memory, browser, and operating system); and other functional details (successful installs, unsuccessful game downloads, game launch data, errors, and lost network connections). MAC and IP addresses are collected as well, but obfuscated and hashed to protect your anonymity. All of this data is used to improve Origin’s performance, identify bugs, and enhance your overall experience.

(2) Information that you directly provide to Origin. This includes Origin preferences, online feature usage, purchase information, and account information—which is used only to allow specific services to work. For example, Origin needs to collect and verify your personal information in order to process a game purchase.

For more information about EA’s collection, storage, and use of consumer information, please read EA’s Privacy Policy."

I still don't know why people hate EA so much.

They make great games. They don't delay their PC releases. They have great customer service.

What gives?

To be fair, only around half-a-dozen PC games (including Titanfall) have been published through EAP since Origin's launch.

Yeah ye guys are all talk. Once the reviews start coming in ye will all buy it without fail.

Also why do ye care what service it is on? Just play the god damn game

I don't play on PC. What is wrong with Titanfall being on Origin?

Only thing I can think of is maybe people want to get Steam achievements for Titanfall.

Nothing. It runs fine and better than Steam does. Just fanboys with over 500 games (that never play those games) getting upset.

So what is it? Does it run "fine" or better than Steam? Does the concept of people preferring their games consolidated on a single service completely elude you? What about when people platform bitch for consoles?

Yes? If i took the no Steam no play approach i never would of played awesome games like Starcraft 2, Minecraft, Heathstone, Scrolls, Battlefield 3.

What about when people platform bitch for consoles?

We are talking about 2 free pieces of software not a $200 to $500 $550 investment to play 1 game.

I am sure there is some manner of a laughing JPEG or GIF to respond to this claim.

Origin runs way worse than Steam. In fact, it runs worse than Uplay in some places. It is a travesty of a fat client from a company that should be able to pour way more money into decent software development. But they just don't give a fuck.

The only reason people tolerate Origin is because they have no alternative. Stockholm syndrome.

I haven't had an ideal experience with origin or with ea games in general so i will not be buying until it gets really cheap.

I haven't even bothered to make an origin account yet, and I don't think I'm going to even bother. Will probably play if I stumble upon a xBone one beautiful day in the future.

It's probably extremely silly/childish of me, but if it's not DRM-free or on Steam I just don't bother these days :/ Nitty-picky, but I hate the idea of having several clients installed, and I like my steam community/friend list etc.

yes, I know, I'm a whore of Gaben and a lazy bastard and Steam is just as anti-consumer as Origin etc.

it will most likely end like it did with CoD.

anyone remember the steam group? people crying for dedicated servers, boycotting CoD MW2... and then buying it anyway ~

This news is as surprising as finding out that the game requires Xbox Live Gold on the Xbone and 360.

If you could measure the surprise those would be exactly equal.

After hearing it's based on Source Engine I might consider buying it. Just to see what the hype is about. Cause right now I still don't get why people are so enthusiastic about it. But I wanna find out :O

Doesn't Steam sort member lists by people who are in game first? So there's actually another 16 pages of people who aren't playing call of duty?

That'd be pretty impressive if so.

What is it people hate about Origin ? I've never really had any issue with it.

Besides having a fraction of the user base, less sales, and a lack of feature parity with Steam?

The SimCity launch debacle cemented a negative opinion in the minds of many consumers, I'm sure.

SimCity still sold extremely well. Let's be honest, Titanfall being on Origin won't limit the game's userbase in any significant way.
Fortunatelly the ammount of pcgamers still completely dwarfs the ammount of the weird breed that's Steam-only gamers

I wouldn't outright not buy\play a game that is only available on Origin but the dissatisfaction is understandable because Origin is an inferior and under-featured product compared to Steam.
While Valve keeps adding more functionality to the players and developers, EA doesn't. They don't even do free weekends. Origin solely exists so that EA can make more money on each copy and little else. Which is fine, but so are the disgruntled voices against using a sub-par service.

People aren't hacked through EA's service, they're hacked because Ultimate team allows them to convert money on hacked accounts into real money through the service. It's their atm, but the itself isn'tt whats hacked.

Wrong. They've been hacked via EA services even if they haven't played fifa. It's happened across psn, xbl and pc all the same.

The other way for me. Origin is the best game client I used. Steam on the other hand is extremely slow and sluggish

That's fine. Origin doesn't bother me.
Same here. Personally never had any issues with Origin, but I know it was a shitstorm for a lot of folks out there. :/
But in all seriousness, I don't see this as such a problem. Origin, Uplay, Steam...they're all OK and competition is good, always.
I'm more worried about the state of their (EA & Respawn) online infrastructure, especially when you consider the SimCity & BF4 debacle.

To be honest, I don't think that features have much to do with it. Both services let you download and play your games and that is what ultimately matters.

The thing is I don't trust Origin to keep letting me download and play my games. Lots of people will dismiss that fear, but lots of people thought there was no way GFWL would be turned off either.

But in this case, Titanfall is a multiplayer only game and I expect it to be made redundant by a sequel (or the "next big thing") before any potential Origin issues manifest. So I don't really see the platform as a problem.

Just don't buy on day one, i don't buy EA games at all on launch because of all the problems, better to wait a month or two until the problems are sorted out, or just avoid the game altogether like i did with Sim City.

Obviously 100% expected and I actually don't mind it that much, Origin isn't that bad anymore, UPlay on the other hand...

I'm quite protective of my gaming PC set up and configuration, but Origin does not bother me. I've had no issues with the platform.

I do think it is quite short sighted to ignore a game completely simply due to Origin being required. You don't need it running in the background when the game isn't playing.

Yeah this is where I am with the service now - I view it as having a console just for exclusives that otherwise gets put back into it's box until I need it again.

Steam and GOG are my two libraries for PC and where I buy stuff. Origin gets fired up purely to start Origin exclusive titles and that's it.

And to be honest, despite the bitching it doesn't feel like many games end up Origin exclusive - my library there is tiny next to Steam for example.

Anyway if I get TitanFall it will be PC and it'll give me a prompt to update my Origin client again as I haven't used it in ages so there's probably an update waiting for me.

Not that this was news or anything but it's the reason I won't be getting the game at all. I've never been particularly interested with it though, so no real loss.

The reason publishers (not just EA) keep doing what they do...
The moment they wanted to compete with steam was the moment they should have made sure the PC versions of their games were in tip-top shape which, from what i've seen, is not the case.

Total bullshit.
