Titanfall requires Origin.

Hahaha, oh man that is good. Looks like the tiny sliver of interest I had in the PC version is out the window. Fuck Origin.

2) Origin doesn't have a second level of security and your account can be compromised more easily. I've already had my Origin account stolen once due to Sim City release. Can't wait until someone tries to jack my account to play TitanFall.

Mainly number one though. It makes absolutely zero sense to make a game PC Origin exclusive in this day and age unless EA is developing it themselves.
Not true, they have the same email you a code and type it in as Steam does.

i really don't care, i mean i prefer steam but if i was interested in the game i'd buy it. i see no reason why not. This whole "no steam, no sale" thing always baffled me, i can sort of understand it here but i see it on here when talking about non DRM games...

competition is fine.

In ideal world there would be no clients required for anything besides downloading the game (I hate that I have to launch Steam just so I can play a damn game), but clients running games are reality and to miss games you otherwise would buy solelu because of that is just plain bizzare to me

Origin isn't even bad anymore. This is an EA game and people are shocked its on Origins? News flash if you jump in a pool of water you'll get wet!

Not picking on you particularly, but the whole "it's EA! You should of expected this!" is off base. This game is not just on Origin it's only on Origin as in you need Origin running to play it. Every other EA partner game is the same...oh wait they're not. I know we should expect a certain amount of this kind of thing from EA, but I guess must of us were being nice. Also expecting it doesn't mean we can't still voice opinions on it. Like I said not really direct at you walker.

I like what Respawn has done here and will probably pick it up on the cheap far in the future, but I'm not so passive as to drop $60 for a publisher that has enacted and continues to enact a variety of pathetic policies just within the last few months let alone the last generation. As I said before, from a consumer point of view Origin is pointless. I get that Steam is DRM, but at the same time it is host to a variety of software unlike Origin and continues to invite its customers in rather than lock out the fans. Why is EA even doing this? Oh yeah, not a reason we bother to discussed because it only amplify the fact that Origin is mostly pointless.

I should also mention I never had any real intention of getting Titanfall at launch as I've already mentioned not that big a fan of online multiplayer and buy very very few games at launch, but a purchase down the road for cheap? Definitely STILL considering it.

Burger analogy is stupid.

As always I'll be the loner who defends Origin.

I'm all for hating EA - fuck those chumps - but Origin, as a service, is actually good. It works.

Yep. It's light, downloads are a lot faster than on Steam and the deals can be really good. I also like how it lets me download original language versions of titles I bought here in retail that are polish-only.

The only thing I really don't like about Origin is how fragmented their offerings are. I mean, why in the world can't I buy BioWare's DLC through Origin? Or download F2P version of Old Republic?

Agree. Steam has become so slow and a pain to use at times

nah,

After having a Steam issue after a update that took literally over a month to get an actual person to respond to my ticket..And the solution was to wipe the PC and reinstall the OS/Steam they can go f*ck themselves.

I appreciate the bargain basement prices of games but fear to think of how the hell they will start to support steamboxes

I agree. Origin is light weight and runs quickly. I don't understand what the issue is with the current version of it. A year ago it was not good so I could understand the hate for it.

I played Dead Space 3 and Syndicate through Origin and each was a pleasant experience.

I'd rather use Origin than either PSN or XBL, that's for sure!

Of course it was needed. It gives people that had already decided they didn't want the game another chance to let everyone know that they won't buy the game.
I have around a dozen games on Origin but I still don't like two clients splitting my library. Will get Titanfall only on sale way later now, immediate impulse to buy it at release is gone.

And yet every Origin game I have was a 3rd party key ( including BF4 + Premium for £54)

And you can buy games on their regional store and play it on your main like all those guys who bought BF4 + Premium from the Mexican Origin store.

Unfortunately, all third party stores refuse to sell (Region locking) to Australian customers. So every game is either $79 or $99

I'm not gonna proxy just for the privilege of giving them my money.

I've never used origin (I do use Steam on my PC), I always read that people don't like it, but I don't actually know why?

If there a good reason to not use origin, like it being slow, badly programmed or a resource hogger?

Its actually quite fast, uses hardly any resources and has a couple of nice features that Steam doesn't have (things I'd love Steam to add), like in built twitch streaming, auto client shutdown on game exit, a 24 hour refund policy on EA games and a much better customer service setup.

I quite like the client (more than Steam in fact - due to how I use the clients) and they've fixed the main issue I had with it in the latest update, you used to have a forced popup advert every so often - they've now (finally) given us an option to turn it off.

Valve could actually take a massive leaf out of EA's book with a lot of the Origin features and their especially their customer service.

Nope to all.

These people are just that weird.

You will willingly choose to play an inferior version of the game to prevent yourself from installing an innocuous program?
I fail to see how the PC version will be any better than the console versions when we have MW2 as a precedent of how they handle that platform.

It will run at the native resolution of my monitor or TV and play with Mouse/Keyboard. That's a start.

I would have 0 problems with Origin if this turd charge me on $$$ instead of fckin EUROS!!! I live in Souht America and speak spanish it doesn't mean I'm from SPAIN!!!!!

Yeah ye guys are all talk. Once the reviews start coming in ye will all buy it without fail.

Also why do ye care what service it is on? Just play the god damn game

I'm not bothered by Origin, but I hate this sort of talk. You make it sound like "gamers" are uncontrollable addicts with no sense of control. "You'll come around, like the mindless sheep you are."

Come on man.

They aren't primarly gamers though. It seems they're mostly interested in fiddling with clients, while games themselves are much lower on their priority list.

It's just a storefront & game launcher, but for EA games. I understand that brand value is important to consumer psyche, but damn. Origin ain't so bad.

Vince has been dropping some info on the beta too via Twitter. Doesn't sound like it is exactly open. Sending out beta codes in waves when it starts.

Don't look at it as a Steam vs Origin. I think the real complaint is 'Why not both?'

In the (simplified) 'free market competition sense, that would be the ideal for the consumer.

I seriously don't see the problem. I just leave steam and origin both running to play my games.

From EA's perspective: If someone was taking 30% of your money, and you could have them NOT take 30% of your money, wouldnt you do it?

It's not intrusive, it's not a resource hog, I just don't see the problem.

The Origin client is objectively better than Steam from a software standpoint. It all of the features Steam has, it has more features than Steam, and it's updated often with new features requested by the community. While the Steam community begs for critical updates that take half-decades to arrive (such as bandwidth shaping), Origin applies updates within weeks. Origin also consumes significantly less resources, and no, it does not spy on you. ... It used to, but they legitimately removed that part of the client a long time ago.

But then there's the Origin service itself. The Origin service allows you to return games for a full refund. The Steam service does not.

Origin's userbase/community is extremely small. Steam's is not.

The Origin service's "sales" and selection are awful. Steam's are not.

At the end of the day, Origin is the better client for single player enthusiasts (the majority of NeoGAF), but--understandably!--there are those who are simply boycotting EA products for which this does not matter.

Feel free to boycott Origin, but do not claim that the client is lesser than the Steam client. It's absolutely not!

Just change the name to Steam and the year to 2004 and the same argument
The problem here is that Origin isnt in its infancy like Steam was 10 years ago. Origin is a rebranding of an old platform EA had lying around. It would be true had the service not existed for years, already. EA only made a push recently since every publisher needs to have their own online store and app, apparently.

But he's right. 99.9% of gamers talk with their mouth/hands instead of their money. They complain and bitch and whine and moan--and then they buy it anyway because they have no willpower.
