You're probably better off getting one of those HDD recording units that don't use TiVo's service, my gut's telling me that ReplayTV won't be around for much longer unless they get some kind of miracle co-branding deal with a major electronics maker.
But what TiVo's doing isn't that bad, and it'll keep the networks happy. They're just banners, and as long as I can keep track of how long I've been fast-forwarding I'll accept it as a proper "price" for what TiVo lets me do, and how easy they make it.
